why does it matter when you Nika date a coin to get a date, as no ones ever going to know until they Nika date the coin to get the date or mint mark for slick coins, if you are doing the hard work you should atleast get better deal in my opinion, which l know means 0. common sense.
Hunted my first box of nickles in a long time today, mainly looking for buffalos and silver, and found a 1950D. I don't really collect nickles so If I hadn't been watching your nickle hunts, I wouldn't have known it was the key date. Always fun watching your channel
Very nice Rob! I picked up some tools this weekend at a yard sale and asked the guy if he had any coins. No silver but did pick up 1915 Philly buffalo and 1883 “no cents” both in G4 or so condition. Got some really nice dremel tips and a nice Klein multimeter
Hey Rob, found a slick buff in today's hunt. Recently bought the trusty Nic-A-Date and practiced on a few ones. Was already ready to hit this one when I looked at the reverse and noticed the raised mound. And after further inspection saw the S mint mark. G4 has it at $65, glad I was smart enough to watch your videos and learn from the master before making a costly mistake. Hope you're feeling well, and as always, keep it up brother!
Quite interesting. An inexpensive way to fill out an album pending acquisition of better examples. I wonder how PCGS would deal with a rare but Nic-A-Dated nickel?
I like to search through accumulations of dateless Buffaloes with mintmarks. Like you, I found that the majority are considered 'common', relatively speaking. Once I bought an accumulation of 60 (3 rolls) of dateless Buffalo nickels which, after using Nic-A-Date virtually on the Type 2s, all were from the teens. In the Type Is I got 6 1913-S and 8 1913-D plus another 10 1913-P which I didn't need to use Nic-A-Date. In the others I used Nic-A-Date and I found 4 1913-D Type II, 1 1914-D, 2 1915-S, 2 1921-S and 1 1924-S. And to top it off, I got several 2 Feather varieties, including a 1917-S, 2 1918-S, a 1919-D, a 1920-S, a 1925-S, and a few others.
I won one of your buffalo nickel auctions in the past. Those were mostly post-1927. It's probably not a series I would collect otherwise. This could sure fill in my album. 🙂
I do this from time to time, recently got a few 21 s and 13 type two s and d. Ya it's acid treated but I put those in my back up albums still fun to do when I get enough saved. Usually don't do any Phillys with no dates.
Great episode Rob. Last year I got 2 rolls of buffalo nickels no dates off of eBay. They were all very worn. To my surprise there was one that I thought was a blank planchette. Slicker than snot. I nic o dated the whole nickel. Turns out it was a shield nickel without the rays. Interesting..
The 13-S type 2 is decent money in any grade. I think mine is a VG+. I found my 24-S when I was a kid in the buffalo nickel bargain bin. The dealer was like, oops!
I recently did my date less ones and ended up find a 1913 S type 2, I was so shocked I had to check it like 50 times to make sure I wasn't seeing things
My best buffalo nickels finds were a 1913-s V2 and a 1931-s coin roll hunting. And then I found a 1921-s in a buffalo nickel bin at a coin shop. Unfortunately I had to acid treat the 1913-s V2 but it was still worth about $40. The 1931-s was in fantastic shape, about XF-45 condition. Love nic-a-dating buffaloes, nice you found some awesome dates!
I have hundreds saved for a fun day like this, nice find on the 13s! Southern metal w another GEM 50D, crazy. Also, I’m happy to see the Coinbase referral link! 🚀
Personally I rather purchase a restored date buffalo over a dateless one, I don't really see the point in holding on to dateless ones. I usually give them away to the kids
Heck yeah bro what a good episode I love nickels but I don't think it's worth all the time that it takes when you have junk silver but I'll always love your videos Man
Unrelated, but I got a couple boxes of Pennie’s from the bank and one is all 2024 D I believe. Is there any errors known for these or are they not worth the time?
Instead of using Nicadate , you should just use muriatic acid (aka: pool acid) and/or nitric acid (but be very careful with these acids as they’re both a lot stronger than Nicadate) but the results will be a lot more consistent and accurate.
It raises value on coins not identified that are now better dates. It really doesn't hurt a dateless coin much at all. Maybe goes from 15 cents to 8 cents though.
Thank you. Mainly becuase it makes the coin "uglier" if that makes sense. Just want to see the date and keep the coin as original as possible in doing so. Although, I have been known to dip an entire Shield or V Nickel.
I was thinking after you boldly claimed you wouldn't need gloves as you gotten good at using nicadate you might have jynxed yourself and spilled some on your hands, glad you didnt, you only jynx yourself when you start predicting number of finds in middle of hunts haha
You are unclear of the purpose of nic-a-date. A damaged, but confirmed 1913-S T2 Nickel is worth 100x more than a $0.15 cent dateless buffalo nickel. Also, even the experts "restore/clean" coins for a fee. There are exceptions.

Fun to watch. Amazing how worn buffalo nickels got. To me it shows that nickels used to be the work horse of everyday life
For sure. They are the quarters of the 90's.

Rob, I got a Barr dollar yesterday in my change.
Very NICE!
After doing more research the company that sells Nic-A-Date did make a Silver version way back in the day.
LOL, yeah I am sure that was like snake oil LOL... Wish there was a silv-a-date!
@@RobFindsTreasure They sold bottles of it 55 years ago, the old timers said it did work but you had to apply clear nail polish or it would wipe away.

Sure that was the right dip jar. I know it take time to get thou those 😂
Jack Beymer who sold coins for 60 years believed that the rare nic A dated Buffalo Nickels should’ve been listed in the greysheet !
Just curious, ever nic-a-date a whole nickel for S & G's? Pretty cools stuff. I don't have too many Buffalo Nickels.
Yep, especially the shield nickels and slick V Nickels - they turn out better than the slickies, but still look pretty bad overall.
Get em!
Sometimes when you tell the year, I guess the mint or vice versa 😂😂
Cool video
So do you get a damaged grade if you submit them after they’ve been nic a dated?
yes. do not submit.
Would a professional company like ANACS or PCGS be able to tell the dates without using a chemical like Nic-A-Date?
Unrelated, but I got a couple boxes of Pennie’s from the bank and one is all 2024 D I believe. Is there any errors known for these or are they not worth the time?
Not real errors yet, but the rolls of 2024 coins are selling well on eBay right now.
@ thank you
Turned out to be a box of 2022 Denver’s. And they all seem to have die breaks at the top of the shield.. are they all like this?
Instead of using Nicadate , you should just use muriatic acid (aka: pool acid) and/or nitric acid (but be very careful with these acids as they’re both a lot stronger than Nicadate) but the results will be a lot more consistent and accurate.
I have it for the pool but man... that stuff eats through the concrete in seconds!
Awesome!
I demand you do an all NicADated album!
I just may!
great finds I have about 16 Buffalos that need nick a date but you cant buy that here in Canada
That's a bummer... I wonder if it can even be shipped there?
Does using that stuff, drops the value of the coins.
It raises value on coins not identified that are now better dates. It really doesn't hurt a dateless coin much at all. Maybe goes from 15 cents to 8 cents though.
Thank you Sir
Rob . If you did this for a few Months you could Make over $2500.00 easy . Great work . Liked and Shared :) QC
Future auction Buffalos?
Maybe...
Wow, I am early today. You only posted 14 minutes ago.
Yes you are!
I got about a hand full of buffalo nickels with no dates that are hard to see.
Love your videos. Why not dip the entire coin?
Thank you. Mainly becuase it makes the coin "uglier" if that makes sense. Just want to see the date and keep the coin as original as possible in doing so. Although, I have been known to dip an entire Shield or V Nickel.
80% of the nickels I've Nic-a-Dated turn out to be in the teens, seems to correspond with your totals too.

LOL. For sure!
What is the dead giveaway that a nickel has been nic-a-dated?
It has a mushy look around the date.
✌️
Would it be a good idea to clean the area with a de-greaser before nik-a-date
Yes. That would help on the ones that need it.
I was thinking after you boldly claimed you wouldn't need gloves as you gotten good at using nicadate you might have jynxed yourself and spilled some on your hands, glad you didnt, you only jynx yourself when you start predicting number of finds in middle of hunts haha

Regardless of the solution or practice that you reveal the date from a coin, you have decreased its value if it should ever be graded…😢😢😢😢
If you cannot identify it otherwise, what are you talking about?
@@bobair2 you are unclear of the concept. You don’t clean coins, there are no exceptions….

Exactly what value beyond face does a dateless buffalo nickel have? Rob's actually adding value.
