To score you must touch the ball down on the ground in the in goal area. As NFL evolved from rugby that’s where your touchdown comes from, although you no longer need to do so.

@barnabebatisse8552 you are way behind on the discussion here. I'm wrong on 20 minutes as that is now out of date. Laws of the Game 2024 state in Law 5, clause 2, that it is "an interval not exceeding 15 minutes." So the belief that it's 10 minutes is wrong, although that is the norm. I've amended my original post. Thanks though 👍.

In Rugby, you have to place the ball down for a "try" to be legit. No need to dive - but most scorers do it to make the referee and assistant refs be sure. A TRY used to be 3 points, but in medern times, it became 5 points. When a try is scored, you may also kick for posts afterwards to "convert" the try with an extra 2 points. I hope I covered some basics?

A Bit late on the video,
Rugby has two type of teams:
    15 a side, 40 mins a side total match 80mins.
7 a side, 7 mins per side. That is why some people dont always chase someone like Kolbe to save energy as they still play on a full 15 a side field.
    Try/touchdown = 5 points
Conversion when scoring a try = 2 points
Drop goal through the posts = 3 points
    Penalty kick = 3 points
Ruck is when someone gets tackles and people goes over the tackled player to defend the ball not being able to steel it. If the do when a ruck is formed, the ref will award a penalty to the team that was tackled.
If you kick a kick to the sideline with a penalty if will be the teams lineout that kick the ball out.
A maul is when the ball is held up and players forms a like a hudle each pushing in the other direction. Defending team can not collapse the the maul after it has been formed. But can sack the olayer you has the ball as he catches it from usually a lineout.
If a player is tackled and they hold him up. A maul can also be called if the olayer with the ball can not make their knees touch the ground, if he can it is deemed a tackle and they must release the ball.
When passing a ball the ball must go backwards and can not go forwars from the hands. When a ball is kicked high up in the air. All the attchking players can only move forward if they were behing the kicker, or if the kicker runs past them and olaces them onside.
New tackle laws are that you can not tackle a player or let any part of your body hit the face of the player with a ball.
If a player gets a wellow card, he has to leave the field for 10mins after the yeklow was given.
Red card (serious offence) has to leave the field and can not play further in the game.
If a player carries the ball over the tryline and is held up by defensive team
The team that held the ball up must drop from tryline.

No player can be the best in the world.Different positions in the team needs different skills.Cheslin is brilliant as a winger but will be useless in a lineout or a scrum.Just as a prop cant outrun the backline players.

The beauty of Rugby (union) is the variety of body types required for a complete team. From huge beanstalks to immensely strong and heavy tubbytubs to outright speedsters and agile midgets. And yet they all need to be supremely aerobically fit, strong and with excellent ball skills and tackle skills, able to play offensively and defensively for two halves of 40 minutes each half without stopping.

Touchdown - you HAVE to touch the ball down. NFL made the game easier, but kept the original name. If you can prevent the touch down, hold the ball up, you can prevent the "try" or score.

    NFL called touch down...
. Never touches the ball down lol NFL derives from Rugby and they removed the fact that you need to place the ball down behind the line, they still call it a touch down though. In Rugby it's called a try because it used to count for 3 points, try meaning 3 they also never changed that. Keep up the vids man

Why do you think American football calls it a touchdown, your ment to touch the ball down on the pitch in the end zone to score, don't forget that American football evolved from Rugby and Soccer (association football)
Walter Camp started changing aspects of rugby he found unsatisfactory like no forward passing and the no safety gear, and came up with a different set of rules, which became American Football
