Love the artistry and feeling in the oldest ballerinas. A real pleasure to watch. Thanks.

Harvey remains my favorite Kitri. She portrays a lively spitfire cheekiness that hasn’t been equaled imo.

Kirkland’s jumps. Omg. Hands down my favorite.

Thanks very much. I love the fact that Lepeshinskaya is dancing with castanets in the first excerpt.

    Kirkland's manege is terrific.
The Kitri's of the last 25 years are too refined for their own good, though Kulik and Shakirova brought some oomph to the role. Novikova's lack of red blood cells is so obvious, I wonder why she was selected for the role...
You forgot to provide url's for Kulik and Shakirova....

+Navarre Brixen Yes, Batalov-Kulik, sadly, gone from public view again - how many years will have to pass befoe it reappears? And it seems the Shakirova performance too, but I do not mourn that in any particular way.

    Thank you very much!
I wouldn't say that ABT production is derived from Kirov.
And as far as Ananiashvili is concerned - she danced in Perm that performance but it's Moscow style.

Navarre Brixen Well, Ananiashvili was not "very close" to Bolshoi, she was THE Prima of Bolshoi :)
And if you mean the Baryshnikov ABT production ...

Navarre Brixen Then I wouldn't say that it was a derivation from MT production. BTW "DQ" is a very Moscow ballet first staged by Gorsky for BT.

Navarre Brixen The version we know was staged by Gorsky 1900 for BT and 1902 he staged it in MT.

Navarre Brixen The gipsy dance in Moscow is done by Goleyzovsky, fandango is also new (I don't remember the author), giga, which they regrettably put in the last version again - Zakharov. Everything else is Gorsky.

Navarre Brixen OK, I was not going to discuss Nureev, Baryshnikov, Ratmansky etc. I was speaking about BT. Of course - time goes on and male variations with it. But BT and Mikhailovsky versions are the closest to the old Moscow version.

    Cynthia Harvey to my taste.

In the earlier examples, the dancing seemed more spontaneous and emotional - and the ballerinas were interacting witj tje people onstage. Later it became a series of athletic stunts and posturings - just playing to the audience - no discernible context and no charm.

Лепешинская была бесподобна. А Китри здесь одна - Плисецкая. Остальные изображают, чуть лучше, чуть хуже - на любителя. Техника, конечно, со временем ушла вперёд, но характер...но образ... но темперамент... Это на века.
