    Basically, I'm from up north in the UK and it's my dream to perform on the west end. I do musical theatre and dance. Not long ago I did a Cats west end workshop with actor Gary Watson and he said when I leave school I would definitely audition for one of the London performing arts schools.

    Hi Georgie, im new. My daughter is auditioning right now for drama schools, she's 20 and currently doing a foundation year at EVOLUTION in Colchester, studying dance, acting and singing. She's wants to do MT with all her heart and soul. I hope she gets in somewhere. It's a tough nut to crack and lots of competition. My daughter says a career you do for love and not money. You are a lovely lady, full of inspiration and honesty. I loved your day in the life of a west end show. Great to see what goes on behind the scenes. Keep up the blogs x

    I wish this had been my story, I auditioned so many times and got to second rounds and even final rounds but never any further. You did so well to get into every where first time.

    Really love that you’re doing these videos because there is not enough advice out there from people who’ve actually been through it s I’m cloning this as a career myself. However this is not intended to be hate just advice but I am in the industry at an amateur level at the moment and i know it gets even hard professionally so I just feel that for those who may not undersant the industry and are coming to this fresh you make it sound really easy. getting a scholarship to arts ed is no small thing. I understand you’re trying not to brag but it may be worth emphasising the difficulty and toughness of the industry. Just a suggestion! Love the video x

    Wow your are such an inspiration. I am doing btec performing arts in a sixth form college in west London area. I really want to go to drama school but I know it’s extremely tough to get in and they look for certain people and are very critical. I also don’t have much experience. It’s my third year doing performing arts in school/ college and I have two more years left. I am hoping to join Jackie Palmers stage school to help me improve.
    Thank you for your videos.

    Hi, I’m 12 and I’ve been dancing since the age of 2, however, I quit ballet at age 7. I really regret quitting because I feel like everyone goes ballet in the west end industry. Now I do HipHop/Streetdance, Musical Theatre dance and latin/ballroom. I’ve done a lot of drama and shows too. However, I don’t do much singing but I’m thinking of joining a school choir. Do you have any advice for me or anything? I’m wondering if you HAVE to go to a stage/dance school to get in to the West End? I wanted to stay at normal school until after sixth form, do you think this is the best option and what age do you think you should start auditioning? Thank you x

    • @GeorgieAshford
      @GeorgieAshford  6 лет назад +5

      Hi I think that you should definitely do whatever is best for you! You do not have to go to stage school- but I think it’s something to look into! Don’t worry about the ballet thing! Not everyone does ballet and it sounds like you’re still doing loads of dance which is great! Joining a choir really helped me with my confidence when singing so I think that’s a great idea 😃 Best of luck with it all x

      If you aren't already learning to read music, if you join a choir I would suggest you join one that does use at least some music rather than teaching by rote. It's not essential but it is a very useful skill to have

      Hi I’m so sorry for the slow reply! I absolutely do not think you need to be a super strong dancer to have a career in the West End! I think, when you’re starting out it does help to have a basic understanding of dance, but it will completely depend on the parts you want to play and the types of shows you would like to be in :) I hope that is helpful? Hi Georgie , my dream is to be in the west end but I do dancing basically everyday after school but it’s pop / street dance . Would you say I need to start like tap or contemporary or jazz dance classes even though I am self trained when it comes to the flexibility part of it . I also take vocal lessons but I don’t feel like my voice is currently at “ west end material “ if you have any tips to kind of improve my singing skills that would be much appreciated btw love your videos ( I’m 14 ) ❤️❤️

    Hi, I know it’s been a while since this video came out but I have only just found this channel and it’s so so helpful, do you personally think that if you want to be on the west end and have a career on the west end that you need to go to a London performing arts school to have a better chance? I have got into a performing collage and I don’t know if it will provide me the best chance as it isn’t actually in London.

    • @GeorgieAshford
      @GeorgieAshford  5 лет назад

      Hi! I don’t think it is a necessity to go to a school in London. I think a school can be anywhere and still be great as it’s ultimately what you take from your time there! However schools in London are good for connections and reputation wise but it is really up to you!

    • @elysiakatewood6252

    Do you think there's a lot of discrimination in the industry based on where you get your degree from? Its always artsed and mountview in the programmes, never universities, but the cost of those drama schools are so unreachable for a lot of people. Have you worked with people with degrees from unis?

    • @GeorgieAshford
      @GeorgieAshford  5 лет назад +3

      Hi I understand what you mean, i think it’s because the schools have such a good reputation, however I definitely have worked with people who have been through lots of different forms of education. It really just depends but it’s not the be all and end all if you don’t go to those colleges!

    Do you think going to high end performing schools/uni matters when auditioning for the west end? Or do small town schools (ie. in Scotland) have as likely a chance?

    • @GeorgieAshford
      @GeorgieAshford  6 лет назад +2

      Hi Hannah! I think it helps only in that lots of Agents will specifically go into the top schools to find people to sign, that does not mean however that it isn’t possible it most definitely is!! There are lots of great schools out there and just because a school isn’t one of the biggest it doesn’t mean it isn’t great! Also, I’m a firm believer in it being how hard you work at whatever school you go to, not just what school you happen to be at :) I hope that helped xx

      Hi Aliyah! The most important thing is to believe in yourself and then everything else will follow. I'd say keep working hard at all three and then when you're a bit older start looking into theatre schools. Also in terms of auditions it's always good to get a head start, so maybe start thinking about songs that you could sing or monologues to perform :) Hope that helps! x
