All I want is a small pick up truck with window cranks and push button up and down locks on the door not electric locks. just a simple basic truck is all I need not all the fancy bells and whistles. Just something simple that will get me from point A to point B
I’m not trying to rub it in. I’m keeping my 95 Tacoma 4X4 until I can no longer drive. I’m 70. I’m passing it down to my daughter. She will drive it until the wheels fall off.
Recently went to a chevy dealer, test drove a new Silverado with the "turbomax 4 cylinder" engine, it felt like i was driving a sedan!! I jumped in my 5.7 L tundra and went home apologizing to her 😅
what were u thinking test driving that crappy 4 cylinder engine after driving the 5.7 tundra there no comparison? The only engine close enough to what u might like is the 6.2 but it will cost 75 grand to get into that model silverado
They don't want to sell a work truck with a solid engine anymore. They'd rather sell a " package" for way more than it's worth and comes with crap thar isn't necessary.
One of the biggest problems faced by today's mechanics is not simply the issue of purchasing an annual subscription for each manufacturer of vehicle (which is a considerable expense if there is insufficient use of the subscription for that year,) it is also the shameless robbery of the TOOL MANUFACTURERS who only allow a subscription for a number of years BEFORE THE TOOL IS OBSOLETE and IS NO LONGER ABLE TO ACCEPT UPDATES. After over thirty-five years in the business, I am more than happy to see the finish line is in sight and I can work on whatever I want.
Scotty warned us about those bronco sports and now there's a recall for them. They're catching fire due to cracked fuel Injectors and there's no clear fix
I bought a 2010 Ford Focus new. It now has 55,000 miles. It has been and still is a very reliable car. It has been paid off for 10 years. It gets great gas mileage, and the plates and insurance is cheap. I am going to drive it until it drops. I laugh at the people driving their fancy cars, with the big payments. A lot of them are underwater on their loans.
The main problem with having an oil place change the oil is that you drive in , they pull the car into a bay and drop the plug. As soon as it slows down, they replace the plug and dump in the new oil and filter leaving at least a quart of the old oil in the crankcase. Doing it yourself you leave it overnight then replace it.
And you run the risk of them doing it wrong, like using gear oil instead of engine oil. And another thing which is very common is that they leave the old filter. Happened to me once.
The guys working at those places always crank the new filter down so tight you have to literally destroy it to get it back off again the next oil change. No idea what you are getting for an oil filter or oil.
triple certified ASE Master tech with a bachelor's in Software Engineering. I switch from American cars to the Prius Prime back in 2017 and never went back. I still work on my own cars. I rebuild battery packs. So nice not having to change fluids so often. Tracking gas mileage on an app. Don't trust the display in the car. They cannot account for the fuel captured and used in the eval system. Track from fill up to fill up. My Venture mini van was supposed to 21-24. It only gets 18-19.
Rather you should be able to fully disengage the electronic brakes from the cars dash software. Instead you need an official OBD2 that’s not available for purchase unless you’re a dealer or certified mechanic.
I’m keeping my 09 ford ranger until at least 2035 because I don’t trust anything with, eco, hybrid or electric, they will never last as long and I trust my non eco 2.3 4 cylinder engine with 143000 miles more than I would ever buy anything like those, plus who doesn’t like to hear the engine come on when you start the vehicle? Plus my ranger has way better reliability and longevity than a new one because ford used to make their vehicles right, and I can literally find anything part wise for it because they made almost every part interchangeable with most models, can a brand new f150 do that? No what you get is a 56k truck that has 14 recalls now, they may not cost anything but most people can’t afford the time to mess with those, at least 2 months worth of dealership work, if I ever replace my ranger I’m getting a Tacoma
@@Killersharkboy you can keep it longer than that. They are prohibiting the sale of new vehicles in 2035! In my opinion however, that's never going to happen!
Hi, Scotty. I am from Canada. I have always enjoyed your topics. Anyways , our governments are trying to get us to buy EV's, but what they are not telling us, is that, besides being very expensive, the replacement of the battery can go as high as $ 20,000 dollars. Also , the cars are heavier and the tires wear out faster and these cars are bad for the roads. The lithium for these batteries is hard to mine and a lot of it is under the ocean floor. So any reduction in emissions by buying a EV , is gone. Mining this will cause more pollution . There is no advantage in EV's.
@@WALTERBROADDUSYou are paying for govt regulations and lining the pockets of both the elites in the company and political influence. Meanwhile, the only consumers who can actually afford to pay off these trucks are tax evading/code opportunists that falsely identify as "capitalist" business owners.
About 3 weeks ago I had a new set of tires put on my truck at a tires store ,I was driving it home and the rear driver side tire all the sudden sounded like it had a blow out , I pulled off the road and got out and they hadn't put the lug nuts on and the only thing that kept the tire from rolling down the highway was it when the tire came off the truck came down on it and wedged in the wheel well , they had to replace the studs on the drum , it was a scary ride going from about 50 to zero in about 3 seconds
Once again, I heard a story years ago of someone that went to an quick lube place and wanted an oil change. They drained the oil and put gear oil in its place, instead of regular oil. The quick lube shop paid for a new engine.
That is Sad, The Owners of the Quick Lube Places in my opinion have to: -Teach their Techs Correctly and Respect their Workers; which some of them do their best. - Bottom Line can not always be about the $Dollar.
I once went to a quickie lube place and they put an extra quart in my car. When I drove off the oil pressure gauge spiked up. Drove back and they drained a quart and gave me a coupon for a free oil change. That was the last time I went there.
These quick lube places do tens of thousands of oil changes every day across the country. If even one out of thousand went bad we'd hear about it every day.
I hope you are liking the Tacoma. I rented one at airport and for some reason it pulled hard from a stop and would jolt forward when I let off the brake in the parking lot. Maybe this was an exception and not all Tacomas do this
They raised the floor to improve ground clearance, but never raised the upper, so now if your taller than 5’4” You will bang your head getting in. The Taco should come with a free Helmet!
I think they lie. My daughter has an outlander 2022. Said needed back brakes and rotors. Lied. Nothing wrong with them. She told them that she didn’t believe them. Looked just fine.
Yeh they all lie if they think u know nothing about cars. .... because my auto car is nearly 7 yrs old & 90k miles & the brake pads aren't even 1/3rd worn yet
I will be 74 end of May. Been a FORD person since born. At 15 I built a "Claymore" stock car and raced at 16. Ductaic 6.5 hp motorcycle at 14, licensed in Nevada. Ford cars, mills from, 289, 302, 352, 390, 427, 428, 429 ci. cars. Bought 2 1988 Turbo-coupes, Top of the line and basic. Thunderbirds were my favorites.
I drive a 1984 single cab HJ47 Toyota Landcruiser 4x4 Trayback with a 308V8 4spd fairy overdrive and get 1175 k's out of 2 x 85Ltr tanks. The ol' girl has done around 1.5 million k's gets regularly serviced by me, has travelled around Australia about a dozen times and has never ever let me down. I'm 62 and l'm the only owner of 40 years. I bought it off the showroom floor for $4000, l'm hanging on to it till l die. I'll never buy a new car, waste of damn good money !!
Even 25 years ago that generation of kids had little interest in doing their own maintenance on their vehicle. Since then it's only gotten worse and auto makers have loaded down every vehicle with computers and miles of cheap wire, plastic. Expensive throw away vehicles have arrived.
I would never buy a ford. I was a loyal GM owner for years until I realized that I was always getting nickled and dimed to them. I went with Honda's and I've never looked back. I still do most of my own work at 65. It's disgusting that all of the manufacturers make them so complicated and expensive
I've bought Fords for years, beginning with my 1966 Mustang. My last new car was a 2014 Ford Fusion ... the best car I've ever owned. It had over 332,000 miles and was still running flawlessly when I sold it recently. Unfortunately, it looks like Ford has abandoned making quality gas-powered cars anymore, and are instead focused on extremely expensive trucks and SUVs with much poorer quality. Instead, I finally gave up on Ford and bought an old low mileage well-maintained 2013 Lexus ES 300h. It's a pleasure to drive, and will probably be around a lot longer than the junk being produced today.
Ford went with small displacement (read CHEAP) gas turbo engines. Big mistake. HP wars...everyone needs 400 hp to drive to the grocery store with their $80k truck with tiny little bed.
1989 22REC 4wd pickup. 344k miles. Fluids, tires, brakes. Drive. Year after year after year. Might need a paint job. Probably sell for nearly what it cost new.
I went to a Take 5 once and only once. They aired up my tires saying its policy. I just aired rhem up a week ago to 34. I checked it after and two were at 46, one at 43 and another at 44. My car was being a little sluggish so I took it to my usual place to get the oil changed again after 2.6k miles(I change it every 4k). I was told that it was 1 quart low and that was after I added a quart. They also took 10 min between two guys to change my cabin air filter and another 3 min to put the cover back on. The only thing they did right was clean my windows which is also policy according to them. I told my wife there is a reason why I go to the same oil change place, the same tire shop, and the same mechanic since 20 (now 34) even though I moved and live 50 min away from them.
My mother-in-law took her van to Walmart for an oil change. I went to change it the next time to save her some money. Oh boy! I had to take it to my tire guys shop and he and three other men and some pb and a breaker bar all together finally broke the oil plug free. I called Walmart to ask what was going on they said that the torque rating was 85 lb/ft torque spec. Whaaaa? What kind of engine would possibly require that much force for an oil plug???
I've recently found your channel. You really crack me up because you're not afraid to speak your mind. I noticed the 13 folded flag on the shelf of your set. Whatever meaning it has to you, thank you for your patriotism/sacrifice. God bless you
*Exactly* the same thing happened to us with a Subaru at a local NTB place. My wife got new tires, they told her they checked the oil & it was all discolored so she said go ahead and change it. Bottom line, they put engine oil in the transmission, it died a few miles later. They did pay for a new trannie, but it wasn’t as smooth as the original :-/
My car has 200k miles, and I could use a new one. I bought it for 25k a few years before I retired. A comparable car today is 32k. The only thing that will get me in a showroom are SERIOUS DISCOUNTS. A discount of $20k would get my attention. Otherwise, I have no sympathy for car makers storing new cars on parking lots. Not my problem. You want me to help solve your problem of over production? Discount baby!

" a diet fast food chain" says Scotty then laughs at the prospect. When I was a kid in 1050's Australia, there were virtually no fat kids or adults except those with a medical condition. What were the differences from today? Very limited fast food availablity (mum made everything we ate), no TV to lounge around in front of while stuffing your face and getting no exercise and the relatively high cost of food back then. It's too easy to become fat today. We have to make societal changes over a long period before obesity is diminished. What say you?
I leased a chevy cruze, first year of the hatchback. Brakes rusted through with 32k miles on it, Chevy wouldn't cover it. I replaced myself with the cheapest Chinese crap I could find. When I turned it in the brakes were metal on metal at 60k. Learned that leases are a scam and so are new Chevys.
The gm dealership I took my car to yesterday wanted $15 per quart for mobil 1 and you can get 5 quarts for $27.97 elsewhere. Just shows you how overpriced they are. Sadly I needed to have the transfer case and transmission levels checked otherwise I would've done the oil change myself like usual.
I brought my wife’s Mercedes CLA250 AMG to a local oil change place. We still had the free service at MERCEDES, but we were in a rush. When they were done the car would not move. So I looked under the hood and noticed the drive belt had come off. Apparently the tech got oil On the pulley and the belt slipped off. 😮
True but why does Subaru make the CVT plug extremely easy to see and the oil plug has a door on the plastic under cover, you have to open to see? The CVT plug should be hidden and not look like an oil plug. IMO it is subaru asking for DIY and quick change shops to screw up.
The Subarus CVT drain plug is in the middle/center of the car & the oil drain is at the front of the car (& my Subaru doesn't have a plastic cover hiding the drain plug). It's not hard to tell what is what
Thats funny Scotty, when i got out of Huntsville i actually DID go to work at an oil change center 😮 worked there 3 years ended up manager. 33 years ago ✌️
Exactly. I've always bought estate sale cars, low mileage, reasonable $. But they haven't made them since 2010. Bought a cherry one last summer for $4k.
Why are you people living in the last century? I used to be a limo driver. The town car market is dead. Has been for years. Stretch limousine companies have gone to SUVs years ago. They were the primary buyers of town cars.
@@hotrodray6802we are not making a car line for one guy. I used to drive those things for a living. The primary buyers of town cars was the limo market. And thanks to Uber they've been pushed to the side. And have been replaced by large SUVs and SUV stretches. There is no place for large sedans anymore. No one is making Town cars, no one's making Impalas. And the Chrysler 300 is finally dead.
@@WALTERBROADDUS I clearly understand how the market has changed. I’ve been driving new BMWs for the last 20 years. Growing up my dad had Lincolns and Fleetwoods. My new 5 Series with low profile run flat tires makes driving unpleasant. You can feel every crack in the road.
SK: Have you heard about the "Right to Repair" movement taking hold at the grass-roots level? It addresses the very issues you raised - only across the board of consumer products. One of the most involved advocates is Louis Rossman (now out of Austin, TX). Devices being crippled INTENTIONALLY by software is becoming a gigantic problem. Louis has some excellent stories to tell about this. He is here on YT so he should be easy to contact.
I would say Cummins is definitely the best customer service, assistance 24/7 worldwide and heaps of technical manuals for their engines. A Small Cummins owner in AUS. Toyota was great until late 80's
Things I don't want from Ford (or any manufacturer). 1. I'm from a Northern state. I don't want a moon roof. I want a heated steering wheel. 2. I want a simple cruise control. 3. I want great fuel economy.
March 2023 I was driving through rural Northern ME and saw many hundreds of new Ford pickup trucks srored at a dirt race track parking lot. There was no snow on them so they were being maintained.
We bought a 5.7L V8 Toyota Sequoia and it has operated flawlessly since 2019. Not a single repair other than the normal stuff like brakes, tires, and oil. My neighbor paid 12k to replace the battery pack in their Tesla and sold the car right after. They have since gone back to a regular gas Honda Accord.
Right again Scotty. For example preparing to self sell my 2014 Camry I asked Hattiesburg Toyota for a safety check which they did and gave me a print out indicating what specifically was checked and the results. Everything was OK. I used this to sell the car. Point is IT WAS FREE!
Not too long ago Ford made terrible cars if you look at consumer reports Fords had some of the worst ratings and my parents told me many stories about Fords not making it to 100k miles. Given American companies obsession with making things as cheaply as possible I'm not surprised American cars are garbage. I might be willing to buy a cheap American made item but if I'm going to spend thousands I need quality. Most Japanese cars can make it to 200 or 300k miles. I have never considered buying a Ford because of their past reputation. Car companies need to think twice before they produce a shitty car because the bad reputation they will get might haunt them for decades. It doesn't help that most of Fords new trucks cost 50-75k, way more than the average American can afford. Believe it or not their was a time when trucks were not super expensive. It also doesn't help that most trucks get terrible gas mileage a 30+ mpg truck would be a gamechanger. In Europe they have a few trucks that get 35-40 mpg and a few sedans that get close to 60 mpg so a fuel efficient truck is possible.
As a mechanic you have no idea how right this stuff is (regarding quick lubes) however it's actually not just quick lubes sure the probability of a dealership technician dropping your transmission fluid is low but not impossible. HOWEVER in regards to bulk oil dealerships do the exact same thing, i work at a ford dealership do you think we put expensive fomoco oil in your vehicle when you come in for one of tgose free oil change services? No no we dont unless you pay for an oil change that has a specific brands attached to it your getting the cheapest thing the dealership can get their hands on. Just like those quick lubes dealerships want profit, if you want the best bang for yoyr buck i suggest getting under your own cars and figuring it out.
Here is the trend, extremely gouging high priced crap. I used to be a ford man and had great luck my whole life. Now I own a chevy pick me up with a 4 speed automatic and towing packge,6 cylinder that screams. I really like the truck.
20 years ago, I took my vehicle to a oil change place, got my "oil changed" After , did my few stops before I got home. Noticed the car was running hot. I checked the oil, none in there. I poured a quart of oil I had into it, it dumped onto the floor under the car. No no oil, no plug. I do my own changes ever since.
owned a ford f-150 once... never again, had a new issue with it every month did so much work on it only for it to eventually just crap out and become a decoration on my driveway, eventually sold the peice of junk for $200
Years ago, if you wanted something with all the bells and whistles and comfy seats, you bought a Cadillac or Lincoln. Now they automatically put all that stuff in trucks, so you have to pay a Cadillac or Lincoln price for the truck too!
I work with several guys that went out and spent 100 grand on a new truck and now are stuck with a $2000 a month car payment. It's not the ev trucks it all new trucks.
bypass all of the electronics. We can 3d print mechanical heater controls to bypass the electronic garbage. You can mechanically bypass electronic brakes by replacing electric parts with mechanical brake parts.
Right on! Don't boycott their lousy products. I'm keeping my 18 year old Toyota on the road because I can't get a reasonable stick shift, TV screenless, non turbo, safety gizmo free replacement. Give me cheap, reliable gimmick free cars!
All the want is money. I change my oil at the dealer. And do recommend. Not cause I can’t. It’s convenience. And time. Also I can afford it. Air filter. I can do my self
Yeah, I’m real familiar with Take 5 oil. I took my car there for a state inspection and after waiting for over an hour, I got charged 30 bucks for a 7 dollar inspection, because they kept finding minor issues that any other reputable garage would have said get it serviced soon that they made me replace there at an inflated price or they wouldn’t pass the car. A total rip-off joint, have never been back again and never will….
Still driving my 2007 Honda fit with 300,000 mi on it ,still has the original rear brakes ball joints muffler system doesn't burn any oil and drives like the day I bought it.
Scotty, great channel. On range on EVs like F150. They always estimate time to charge at from 20% to 70% considered full, but range based on 100% to 0%. Ford F150 EV at 450? Probably more like 150 to 200, if you arent towing, or hauling, or in extreme cold, or running AC or heat non stop.
I have only seen one Ford Lightning pickup in the wild here in Southern California and it was too clean to be looked at like it work works construction construction
I used to own a taxi company so I learned a lot about maintaining a vehicle. I did my own oil changes and brakes for 25 years. Now i have to take my vehicle to a shop because I broke my back and I can no longer physically do the work myself. There are several places in my area that offer quick oil changes and I have learned that none of these follow manufacturers requirements for the oil. They are all using bulk oil and some of them only have a single grade. My vehicle requires a synthetic 5w20 blend oil and the local shops are all using bulk 10w30. I now take my vehicle to the Quick Lane operated by the Ford dealer as they are the only ones that use the factory required oil. They even use factory recommended products for non ford vehicles they are a little more expensive but it's worth it to know that they are doing it right.
I would argue people want smaller more practical trucks, but due to the import taxes and EPA regulations on the wheelbase size vs emissions standards make them cost prohibitive to sell.
This the complaint I have. My hobbies include a large 4 stall living quarters horse trailer that’s almost 38 feet long. I live in Colorado and I see lots of RVs every weekend, heading for the mountains. Not only do they pull their camper trailers but they also take along their ATVs and UTVs, both of which use fossil fuels. I feel like there’s a very small minority of lawmakers that have never owned a vehicle, let alone driven one, that are trying to enforce their own agendas upon the people of middle America! If those people are so high and mighty and want to be earth friendly and compassionate, they should watch a couple of those bootleg videos of children forced to work in the open pit mines to gather the minerals for the electric vehicle batteries.
@@MiguchaDonovanRicarardoMigucha Thank you. I’m just speaking from my heart. I worked for over 30 years in law enforcement to have a small nest egg for the hobbies I enjoy. It’s a real shame that people feel that they must force their policies and lifestyles upon other people they know nothing about. It’s just another observation that the “nuts and bolts and engines” of this country mean nothing more to a politician than a vote or an avenue to fill their pockets from money peddling DC activists and lobbyists.
I live in a small city on Vancouver Island. Took my Lexus to Campbell River Toyota for an oil change after winning a silent auction for service. They put the wrong filter on. Lucky for them, I stopped to grab a bite just a couple km away before heading down island where I would have been driving 120 kph for the next hour. I could see my oil slick on the highway heading back to the dealership from the McEsso.
Untrue regarding F150 - still America’s favorite truck. Just get the price lowered about $15K. Did you forget the Maverick. America’s most favorite hybrid.
Problem with hydrogen is that you need a big high pressure tank to store very little. A 100 litre tank at 700 atmospheres pressure (10,500psi) will store just over 6 kilograms of hydrogen. That has the equivalent energy of about twice as much gasoline or diesel, but 12 kilograms is still not much, less than 3 UK gallons, and you won't get far on it. In Britain in world war 2 some trucks were converted to run on coal gas (over 50% hydrogen) due to non-availability of petrol (gasoline) and had a large comedy balloon gasbag structure attached, as featured in a famous episode of Dad's Army.
Thare also placed inside of reinforced hydrogen cells on top of being inside of a contained fuel cell so they're at minimum double-walled if not tripled in reinforcement
@@WALTERBROADDUS Even small amounts of liquid hydrogen can be explosive when combined with air, and only a small amount of energy is required to ignite it, Hydrogen has the highest flammability range and lowest required ignition energy of any fuel.

Toyota tried to sell subscriptions to their car components as well.
No one should pay those scumbags. Then they can learn to put regular brakes on cars.
But just like politicians they'll lie and tell you anyone can service it.
Rather you should be able to fully disengage the electronic brakes from the cars dash software. Instead you need an official OBD2 that’s not available for purchase unless you’re a dealer or certified mechanic.

Oh boy!
Years ago, if you wanted something with all the bells and whistles and comfy seats, you bought a Cadillac or Lincoln. Now they automatically put all that stuff in trucks, so you have to pay a Cadillac or Lincoln price for the truck too!
Just thinking of all those automobiles crushed to get a government tax break. What a waste.
I work with several guys that went out and spent 100 grand on a new truck and now are stuck with a $2000 a month car payment. It's not the ev trucks it all new trucks.
Hey Ford,
Bring back the Panther chassis cars.
TownCar, Grand Marquis, Crown Victoria.
👍👍👍
All the car manufacturers are in trouble It doesn't matter what they do now.
Just a mile down from me in Dearborn Michigan there's parking lots full of these trucks.
Amsoil or Penzoil Ultra Platinum is the ONLY oil you should use.
Go back to making SMALLER trucks with 8' ft bed. No truck larger than older Rangers & Call em CUB RANGERS!
bypass all of the electronics.
Thanks for doing such a great job for us Scotty.
You're telling the God's Honest Truth about those Oil Changing places. I swear every time I get my oil changed something new is wrong with my car.
0:53 Scotty Got a good laugh from that one 👍
At 5:38 It's called "Take 5 Oil" because it takes 5 seconds for those clowns to destroy your vehicle
I’m just sticking with my 2005 Toyota RAV4. And voting for Trump in 2024!
1996 GMC Yukon here and love it. MAGA!

I would argue people want smaller more practical trucks, but due to the import taxes and EPA regulations on the wheelbase size vs emissions standards make them cost prohibitive to sell.
Sell them for $45k aka the actual price. What a f’ing concept.
$6800 for a base model 2000 Silverado with little to no rust on the body. Best purchase I've made.
People will deny it exists
It wouldn't do any good. They'd just call it Russian disinformation.
Cool comment my dear ❤

Thank you.
@@thedocochoco. You're welcome my dear 👍💯Right about that 👍
I live in a small city on Vancouver Island.
Scotty doesn't like any electric vehicles. He knows EVs are a threat to auto mechanic jobs.
Hydrogen is massively explosive under pressure isn’t just checking
It's usually stored in liquid form.
@@WALTERBROADDUS Liquids can be explosive too.
Thare also placed inside of reinforced hydrogen cells on top of being inside of a contained fuel cell so they're at minimum double-walled if not tripled in reinforcement
@@billhicks4537 the whole idea of going to hydrogen is the infrastructure and producing the gas. Neither is in abundance.
@@WALTERBROADDUS Even small amounts of liquid hydrogen can be explosive when combined with air, and only a small amount of energy is required to ignite it, Hydrogen has the highest flammability range and lowest required ignition energy of any fuel.
Last oil change was at Take 5. You sit in car: that way you’re a captive audience for a dozen upsell pitches.
