Microphone bleed is a bad enough issue on it’s own, but when phase cancellation and comb filtering comes in to play, big moves need to be made. And by big moves, I mean a couple thousandths of a second!
Phasing is something that happens when 1 signal is being picked up by two microphones. Think your audio being recorded by your co-hosts microphone. I always advocate that you cut mic bleed, but there’s one extra step that needs to take place if there’s significant phasing.
In this video, we start simple with sine waves to show the nasty results of a signal that’s perfectly out of phase, and we quickly move on to the effects of phasing in the real world.
