Back in 1982 I was over at a friend's house. He was into music and I was not that musically knowledgeable. I think I had Kiss Destroyer and that was probably it. He dropped the needle on Diary of a Madman and this song came on. My jaw dropped. From someone who wasn't that into music I became engrossed with Ozzy and Randy. This song really excited my imagination. Soon after I purchased a cheap guitar to learn on. Within a few years I had a Gibson Flying V (not the Randy version) and an Explorer and some others. I practiced constantly. I could play, not great, but I could mimic a lot of Randy's stuff, most of which I learned from various guitar magazines (the Internet didn't yet exist!). This led to being in a local band. We played some shows, did some recordings but nothing ever came of it (good thing too as I prefer not living on the road). Today I have short hair and a family and a job. But I will never forgot how this song changed my life for about 12 years more or less. I have heard these songs so many times that I hardly ever listen anymore but sometimes get nostalgic. Watching people play these songs on You Tube is great fun. Some, like Satsuma3042, are excellent players and I'm glad to know that this music still lives. Rock on.
brigham2250 God, it's funny how this happened to so many of us - hear one band and it changes your life, you pick up a guitar, you go through the golden years of rock and metal and now, 33 years later, with no hair and a gut, we reminisce! For me, it was hearing The Number of the Beast by Iron Maiden that changed me. I got this album soon after. No modern music comes close to capturing the magic of 80's rock.
+brigham2250 In 1982 I was 20 years old and working in a record store. I too was a guitar player and had been playing since I was 15. However, I hated Ozzy Osbourne. Not his music so much, but I thought he was a waste of genetic material. Being from Texas, his pissing on the Alamo was the last straw. I despised him. Then one day a co-worker at the store put on the promo for Diary of a Madman. I just thought "Ugh!". Then this song came on, and I was mesmerized. The tone, the feel, the playing was just magical. I immediately forgot all my Ozzy hate and just listened to this magnificent guitar playing. I took the promo home (no one in the store was an Ozzy fan) and just played it over and over. Two weeks later Randy was gone. I couldn't BELIEVE it. But I had become a Randy Rhoads fan for life.
Joe Alexander Hi Joe. Thanks for sharing your Randy story. Yeah, I'm not from Texas but if I were, I probably would have been pissed off (curious choice of words) at Ozzy for what he did, too. Of course, he didn't do it with malice or knowledge of the importance of the historic site.
Bro this is the only cover on RUclips of this song where not only someone nailed note for note but that was exactly how randy played it. This is a great cover. The guitar gods are smiling.
SkruffyTheJanitor Jake E. Lee was tremendous player, but due to the structure of of Randy's solos Jake fell short in playing a lot of Randy's solos.. And this one in particular. but I don't fault him for that, back then it was all by ear so he done the best he could...
Jake fell short? Lmao what are you smoking Jake could nail every one of Randy’s solos. Jake was honestly a better player than Randy, faster, more complicated scales, and better tone. Also this guy cheated with the whammy bar. Jake didn’t do that Edit. Here is proof Jake could rip that solo ruclips.net/video/yWfSyhcJyHw/видео.html
SkruffyTheJanitor "Jake is honestly a better player than Randy" this is where you and I say our goodbyes, because that's just fucking stupid especially if you're a guitarist... Smh

dude ALL the members made that band what it was...Rudy Sarzo?? Tommy Aldrige?...cmon! Both fit Randy like a glove...and Ozzy and Randy were meant to perform together...make music together..each bringing out the best in each other.
This is literally my favorite song and solo ever, above any other ozzy song or any other songs from any other bands..you killed it dude, I replayed the solo like 80000 times haha
The only song that remotely comes close, in my opinion, is Bark at the Moon. This guy plays Over the Mountain pretty damn well. RIP, Randy Rhoads, we miss you
Randy is the whole reason I play guitar. I was into music before I heard Randy but when I bought the Rand Rhoads tribute album that came out when I was in junior high it was all over for me. I became obsessed with RR. 35 years later I still am. Another commenter on here mentioned that iRR’s playing triggered his imagination and that is so true. When you listen to RR play it just takes you to a different place. I would kill to go back to 1981 and see RR play live one time. My 3 favorite RR songs are #1 - Steal away the night #2 - Mr. Crowley #3 - Over the mountain
This is my favorite Ozzy song, and my favorite solo of all time, hands down. Never got to see Randy play this, but this is the next best thing considering you can see everything and he nailed it. Great job man. You have reawoken my drive to learn Randy's licks.
Randy would be proud my friend...GOOD LORD...The tone is right, the little things thrown in that he does are right, that no one else does right...Killer...I picked up the guitar in 1982 because of this guy and moreover because of this song...I can't even come up with the words on how you have inspired me buddy...Now I am gonna dust off that old RR Jackson and go make some noise....THANK YOU!!!1
I was lucky enough to have seen Randy Rhoads at long beach and you are the only person I have ever seen play this song correctly.I happen to think this is one of the best metal songs ever! You have got the flow and tempo down.Rock on and thanks.
WHAA HELLYA The SOLO??? Have never heard anyone hit those bends and runs so well. Feeling is big with RR I only get chills listening to Rhoads. But you accomplished some chillz today too . GREAT WORK THANK U!!!
Damn dude, that was killer. As a music producer, your track is record-ready. Clean, great execution. Your detailed attention to each nuance of the track is exceptional.
If you're a music producer, and think that, good luck. Its a nice rendition, but no where near record ready. This would be the track you laid down with the band to go back over and clean up.

I saw Randy in in concert in Cleveland in January 1982, 13th row floor seats, and little did I know that I was seeing what would become my all time favorite guitarist and all time favorite solo. I get teared up watching covers like this.
SAW THE SAME TOUR IN SAN DIEGO THIS SONG, 3RD ROW SO HEAVY I WAS COMPLETELY AWARE OF WHAT WAS GOING ON 5TH DIMENSION....YOU KNOW WHAT IM TALKING ABOUT..... MAGIC
Dude, that was awesome! You put your guitar up front and center where it's obvious you are playing. I see a lot of players that blend in with the track that you can't hear them play or not even sure they are playing live with the recording. Superb! 10/10
Hey ... really cool. Randy would have loved this. He was such a cool friend and inspired me so much. He never treated me bad even though I was so much younger and his brother was kinda mean to me lol. But I got a bunch of lessons and learned a lot. I can still hear him saying “fast ain’t good if isn’t clean!’
Ive seen three of this guys videos. Each one better than the one before. This guy is very talented, unreal man! Get a band, tour the world. Wow excellent job!!👍🏼💪🏼
When I first heard this song at the ripe old age of 15, I couldn't believe the guitar. Yes, we'd had Van Halen already, but this was different. I still don't think anyone phrases things on the guitar quite as nicely as Randy did. Amazing to see it done this well.
Fantastic cover. Best ive seen so far. Your embellishments were tasteful and not show boating letting Randys style shine through in your playing. As a life long randy fan. You nailed it!
this cover is so far ahead of every other cover and tab online. you nailed all the details that randy added to his riffs which are what actually makes them special, whereas playing this song according to the tabs it sounds simple and loses a lot of the magic in the recording. maybe my favorite guitar cover on youtube

Imagine creating that work. Pure genius. RIP Randy.
Opening riff is played different than what other tabs I've seen. Sounds spot on
couple of possibilities here. he's either channeling the dead or he's just that good. Remarkable either way.
Amazing job, I can’t stop watching this. It’s a real shame what we lost in that damn plane crash.
Been an Ozzy fan since 82. Never heard anyone come even remotely close to duplicating this solo. Great Job.

Rhoads Matheson Bark at the Moon was the reason I picked up the guitar in 1987. Jake is criminally underrated
Randy should have never died over something so mindless. A genius and only reason I listen to Ozzy.
illuminati sacrifice
Yeah, if I remember correctly he died in a plane crash. He did it when drunk I think, 'cause he hated flying. Goes to show what alcohol can do...
Brian Griffin he wasn’t drunk nor did he have any drugs in his system because he wasn’t that type of person. Just nicotine.
