When I change insurance companies I always have to get my doctor to notify the insurance company that I have side effects from other medications to get them to pay for the medication it's a real problem and hassle. Was taking NP thyroid but because of recalls now I am taking Armour. Don't mean to be a pessimist but I have been battling back-and-forth with doctors and insurance companies for over 5 years because I want to take a natural thyroid medication. Dr. Childs. Do you have videos for those of us that have had our thyroids removed due to thyroid cancer. I had thyroid cancer in 1990, and have been on Levothyroxin since then. I’ve watched a lot of your videos, but have yet to see any that pertain to those of us that have no thyroids. I started seeing an Endocrinologist, but every time that I ask him about information that you relay in your videos, he tells me that he is the specialist and he knows what best for me. So far, he has not been receptive to adding a reverse T3, and a total T3 to my blood tests. He’s pretty old, so I think he’s set in his ways. Thanks for all the info, and I wish I was seeing someone with your thoroughness. I go to a clinic that excepts Medicare, and from my past experiences, switching to a different doctor is difficult, since they don’t like to hurt the other doctors feelings.

I have been on Synthroid, levothroxirine, NP Thyroid, Armour, Tirosint, and 2 specialized compound thyroid medication but every medication makes me go insane and feel horrific.
(Cant sleep, tremors, extreme emotional outbreak for no reason, nausea, faintish, weigh loss, headaches) and all of the endocrinologist I’ve been too can said they can’t help me, the Mayo Clinic. I get a lot of side-effects from the thyroid meds, too. Like you, I've tried about all of them; natural, synthetic, combinations. I used to do best a long time ago on a version of Synthroid they no longer make. So, it's been really hard for me, and I struggle. I seem to have symptoms of both low and high thyroid at the same time, with current meds. There is a good, new book by Dr. Antonio Bianco, who is a top researcher and is at Univ of Chicago. Book is called , "Rethinking Hypothyroidism." He knows there are some patients like us who really just have a hard time. And that they haven't treated a lot of patients right, over the years. He and his team are also working on a prescription, time-released T-3 thyroid drug, which is intended to give less side-effects due to its slower release of medicine. Wish I had some, now! Process he is using is called PZL...you can read up on this. Stands for PolyZincLiothyronine...they bind the thyroid med with zinc somehow, to make it release more slowly. My family and I have gone through so much trouble due to thyroid that I'm working on a petition for better treatment & diagnosis.

Is it possible to have a fast metabolism with hypothyroidism?
I was diagnosed as a child and have been on 100mcg of synthroid for over 17+ years.
I am extremely educated on the thyroid but I have yet to find anyone with my same situation.

@@drwestinchilds Thank you so much for replying it means so much!
If you have the time may I give you just a small amount of background?
Prior to medication I already had a fast metabolism as a child. Now at 27 (male) it seems to have no signs of slowing down. I remember the first time I took synthroid as a kid and I had hunger pains for a week because the medication ramped up my metabolism even more.
I've seen countless doctors and even an endocrinologist. I've done blood tests over the years and they all say I'm perfectly in range.
I've slightly upped my dosage in the passed and had all the usual hyperactive symptoms (lost even more weight, feeling anxious, scatter brain, sweaty/clammy, insomnia ect)
I've dropped my dosage slightly aswell in the past and was very tired (would nap all the time), brain fog, extreme cold intolerance, dry skin, frizzy hair, weak, ect.
Now I still have all of those symptoms but to a lesser extent.
Im an avid gym goer all my life, I eat better than anyone I know (haven't drank a soda in 8 years, zero fast food).
Yet I can't grow muscle/mass or have strength like most people.
I know there is something still wrong but what?
I swapped from 100mcg to 2x 50mcg because of the less additives and I feel quite a bit better but not perfect.
Could I still be allergic to other fillers in synthroid? I'm not lactose intolerant but definitely lactose sensitive and gluten sensitive.
Sorry for some much to read but it's hard to compress something that heavily effects someone's everyday life.
It's difficult trying to express the problem to anyone that doesn't have hypothyroidism as they have little empathy as it's something that's an internal struggle.

Birth control can affect the thyroid. I believe it depends on the type of birth control you are taking (whether it is localized or not). Estrogen can block the thyroid receptors (this is what my endocrinologist told me), so you should get your thyroid levels checked if you are feeling like it's affecting you.
When I first started birth control I felt fine (and I'd been on the same thyroid dose for about 2yrs at that point with no problems and had recently had my labs done with no need for dosage change) and after a week or two I started feeling symptoms of hypothyroidism (fatigue, lethargy, etc.). When I got my thyroid levels checked, my levels were low. I was able to up my dosage and get my symptoms under control again.
Also, there is a possibility that if you change the type of birth control you are on or the dosage of either the birth control or thyroid medication that it can affect you for a little while as your body adjusts. That doesn't mean you should wait before getting your levels checked/seeing your doctor. I take birth control consecutively (no placebo days) and when I've had my thyroid medication adjusted I've had break through bleeding for a few months. Estrogen and thyroid are both hormonal, so they're likely to affect each other.
Labs never hurt and definitely talk to your doctor.

Just saw it is the estrogen, didn’t read entire post. I was recently diagnosed with sub clinical hypo but have been on bio identical progesterone since late summer and gained 12Lbs and acne along jawline that won’t clear up. I feel I was better off before the progesterone. 😢

So I'm Hypothyroid and I got a Mirena installed several years ago and it was life changing. I lost weight, and my extreme period symptoms (that doctors have said were caused by my thyroid) stopped along with my cycle. It was the best thing I ever did: I got my life back.

My Thyroid is enlarged too doctors do nothing about it from my experience. I have taken it into my own hands and currently am taking Passionflower Extract. It helps with Inflammation and sleep, depression. I have only been taking 2 drops three times a day and I don't get that feeling like i have a baseball in my throat. Don't know what other medications you take though that may interact with Passionflower extract I don't take any other medication but a thyroid medication.

I worry about prion disease with something like this

    • @drwestinchilds
      @drwestinchilds  Год назад +1

Prion disease is typically found in the central nervous system or brain tissue of animals (not the thyroid gland). But even if it were, the locations that are typically used for sourcing these glands have better animal husbandry standards than the US. As long as you use a source where it's never been reported, there's virtually no risk.

Others I've been on synthroid 137 MCG for quite a while then all of a sudden since December or the last week in November I have been losing my hair tremendously so abit over half amount. Still coming out not as much. The doctor did suggest that I take vitamin d 5000 daily, was supposed to take it in the morning but started taking it at night because my sugar dropped so much I have to eat something and then it's a long wait and my day begins and or I forget it. Plus I put myself back on a lot of Vitamin that I when off just over 1 yr. Do believe this is what slow down the progression. Go back to Dr. April 10, do you have any suggestions. 😢
