End of this scene is forgotten about. That paramedic who went in the hole to help treat and rescue Will and John was a former drug addict who lost his paramedic license years prior, he went to Ground Zero to see if he could help do basic first aid. He ended up saving their lives, found his purpose again, and become a paramedic once again. Strong words when he replies what it is he does.

i was in a geophysics class that morning. one plane had hit. while a bunch of guys in class talked about structural damage etc, my MIT schooled prof calmly explained that he was most worried about the temperature from the fires reaching the critical temperature of steel and losing their strength to support the building. Then we started the hour long class and by the time it was over, both towers had collapsed exactly the way he said they would. I've often thought about that conversation that morning and wonder why fire departments don't have physicists on staff. It took him maybe 30 seconds to realize the danger. I actually checked it all out much later and indeed, burning jet fuel just gets hot enough to reach the critical temperature of steel.

We don’t have physicists on staff because we don’t need them. We know the risks, we just don’t care. "The two men were eventually rescued after hours of painstaking work - Jimeno after 13 hours and McLoughlin after 22 hours. McLoughlin was gravely injured. Doctors kept him in an induced coma for six weeks. He underwent 27 surgeries and spent nearly three months in the hospital and rehabilitation. Four months after their rescue, McLoughlin and Jimeno - who both have since retired - took part in a ceremony at Ground Zero to watch as the final column was removed. When all the uniformed officers walked out of The Pit, the two were last to leave.
Only 20 people were pulled out of the rubble alive; Jimeno and McLoughlin were numbers 18 and 19. On June 11, 2002, McLoughlin (with a walker) and Jimeno (with a limp) walked across a stage at Madison Square Garden to receive the Port Authority's Medal of Honor."

I heard an account from someone that was coming out of one of the towers said a huge piece of the building came down and completely flattened a taxi cab. There absolutely must have been someone or several people in it. There is almost never just an empty cab just parked in NYC.

The buildings were built to withstand bombs, like 1993 or whenever. NO ONE ever predicted that a full size passenger jet with full tanks of fuel (no gas) would crash midway in the buildings. The heat from the burning fuel reached 2000 degrees Fahrenheit and higher. Fuel dripped everywhere, igniting as it went. The impact knocked off the fireproofing.
No one could anticipate that level of destruction.

All three aircraft had reached cruising altitude before they got hijacked and turned around. For the two that finally reached the Towers, at over 500 miles an hour more fuel was burned away, and when they struck the buildings, much more than half of that fuel left passed through and out the far side from where they hit, creating tremendous fireballs. Very little jet fuel was actually left in the buildings themselves that could remotely IMPLODE the towers they hit.
