Its not that unreasonable, they would have been able to compare the teeth they found to Mohammed's mouth.

@@MarquisForneus ok, now I'm picturing Mohammed lying in a chair after the battle with a pile of teeth they found on the battlefield, and a servant just inserting teeth into his mouth one by one to identify the one that he's lost while an army is combing the battlefield for loose teeth and bringing them into the tents by the shovel.
"Don't worry Mr. Prophet, we'll find the one you lost in no time. We just got 1322 left to go. Oh wait, I think that one fits? Ok, now to rip it out and put it in a box."
