Videos appear to show meteor streaking through the sky over St. Louis area

People from O'Fallon, Illinois, to Winfield, Missouri, saw or heard the suspected meteor flying through the sky. People on Facebook and Twitter reported seeing a bright flash and hearing a loud noise at around 8:55 p.m. in the St. Louis area.

We had just left Urich, heading toward Clinton when we saw it. It looked like it streaked green to me. Coolest thing ever though!

I am located in central Iowa. Didn't catch the flash but saw the meteor clear as day with it's beautiful long orange/red tail! beautiful sight.

I saw it roughly 4 hours west of St Louis on 127 in middle Missouri, I felt it was fairly close as it had more of a downward angle from my perspective than on the St Louis videos but may have been mistaken, it got real bright but didn't see any blue nor hear or feel any sonicboom so may have just been part of the debris trail or was just fairly large and really far away. Gf wouldn't let me stop and look for space rocks & aliens tho 😒 sorry ET, I know it's cold out but got work in the morning 🙄
