In the best circumstances, it’ll take police _at least_ five minutes to respond to a 911 call. My car is parked in my driveway is 50 feet away from the street, and if someone is stupid enough to walk all the way up to try a door handle at 2am, it only takes 30 seconds for me to grab my gun and give a would-be felon a free ride to the morgue.

My husband works for a pharmaceutcal company in Brentwood and 2 cars were broken into last Saturday morning around 4 am. My husband now goes out several times a night to walk the parking lots.
Sometimes it is what someone has to do. My mind would eat at me for not defending what's mine or someone else's. If I witness a crime its very well known I may be at risk trying to prevent it... but it is not anyones place but my own to speak on my own safety. I would rather die or live with a permanent scar knowing I went down with courage, than live perfectly unharmed knowing I was a coward.
Noble sentiments indeed. I agree. However, let's be cautious about casting a wide net and calling those that don't have the mentality, "particular set of skills," or whatever else as cowards. Some folks are fine to give away a car and just let it go and that's fine too. We don't want folks that are not suited for ''hero type stuff" to start trying to do more than they should be doing. Thieves know if they get caught nothing will happen to them. Remember that People now see the Criminal as a victim and the People are the one's who are accountable and not the thief.

Quit punishing the victims and allow them to defend themselves, their family and their property and it will stop.
