Dude I never knew people forgot about this. I distinctly remember the commercials on TV about the contest. I didn't finish my "script" in time. I also remember watching the episode in absolute awe. I mean, its every kid's dream to write a story for their favorite show. And Tyler won! He achieved the dream! The only other times I know kids sows did something like this was Arthur (winning script was super meta and way ahead of its time) and ATLA canonizing a fan's OC.

I found it to be quite hilarious as a kid. well until I inhaled some marshmellow mateys.
The only part that caught me odd was, why would dexter be mean to computress after they teamed up to destroy Mandark. Although, Dexter being mean to anything connected to Mandark would be something I could easily see him do.

I always found this to be one of the most hilarious Dexter's Lab episodes precisely because of the absolute non-sense of it, and the animators really put in the effort by making the art kinda crude and keeping in obvious gaffes such as _"AND THEN DEXTER SAID!" [chokes]_ and it's impossible to not laugh in the both times it happens! They even bothered to include Tyler's mom's head whenever she can be heard in the recording
Also, _"You're STUPID! You're STUPID! And don't forget: YOU'RE STUPID!"_ is the most quotable phrase from the show, even better than "omelette du ffomage"

I personally liked this Dexter’s Laboratory episode. Sure, it’s a little convoluted. Keep in mind, Tyler Samuel Lee was only 6 and a half years old when he wrote and voiced this episode. So of course it would have flubs since he’s was still young. But despite the flaws, it shows the dedication and admiration Lee had for Dexter’s Laboratory. Otherwise, they wouldn’t have made this episode at all. Plus Lee’s imitations of Dexter and Mandark were funny!

This is one of the very few episodes I remember, I loved it then for it's silliness, and I still love it now. This was back in a time where things seemed so much more simple and legalities weren't (as much of) a nightmare as they seem to be now

Waaaait, people didn't realize this was written by a child? I was 9 or 10 when I saw this episode in Spanish (my native tongue) the first time, and I was like "A child wrote this?? Awesome!!". 20 years and a bit later as an adult I'm realizing how wholesome this actually is, and how nice was the studio to take seriously his idea.

I think it’s sweet when shows are able to grant kid’s wishes by letting either characters or ideas for episodes shine. It shows that the creators care a lot about their fans.

I remember the contest. I'm pretty sure I tried to enter it. The funny thing was that the comercial had a kid dressed like dexter and I could swear they said the winner would get their own lab. My sister promised she wouldn’t break anything if I won lol. That line is iconic and Dexters Lab wouldn’t be quite the same without it.

One of the few moments when a whole animation studio lets a 6 year old fan make the story of the episode, and even narrate it too. I vaugely remember this episode

Yeah see, they had a normal voice actor do a kids voice for the brazilian dub, so all this time I just thought the screenwriters were taking the piss with this episode.

I discovered the newspaper article because TV tome and fandom previously mentioned it was a "contest submission".
So i thought about what prizes theyd won, what the *other* submissions possibly were, and also *"what contest?"* Then my mind just blew and ended up making this episode more special for me

I used to watch Dexter’s Lab back in like 2014 on Boomerang (they would air reruns even after 10 years of being cancelled), I used to really like it when I was in like Kindergarten. It also got me into liking 90’s media with it! But this episode inspired me to start writing fan made episodes and I tried to mail it to CN, I later found out a few years later Dexter was cancelled in 2003. But either way it changed my perspective on 90’s stuff as a whole.

"He would show off the episode in school and becoming the coolest kid there"
I BET HE WOULD! Even in the early 2000s, Dexter's Lab was still loved by kids! Such as myself and everyone at my school. Back in my school back in the day, If someone in our class did an episode on Cartoon Network, I KNOW our entire school would freak over that kid! Cartoon Network was one of the best channels! Today, sadly it's nothing. But it won't be forgotten.

I wasn't even born when this episode aired, but I recently saw it on Adult Swim. I didn't think it was actually written by a kid, but I thought the joke was to make the episode look like it was written by a kid, so I assumed Tyler wasn't even a real kid.

@@Phils_Horrible_World At least on Latin American Adult Swim, they show "Dexter's Laboratory" as part of the "Checkered Past" segment. This episode must have aired about a month or two ago.

Hearing those people who wrote negative reviews, do they take Dexter's Lab too seriously or something? I can understand maybe not enjoying the episode, tho I've always liked it, but literal child wrote it. Good on Tyler for this wonderful episode and his opera career
