Thank you so very much. I just had my surgery at Cullman Alabama@ CRMC. None of this was introduced to me. Not even the type of strap you're showing. Your video at least helped me to understand the things I can and can't do.. sleepimg is the hardest thing to do.
I had 13 staples. Was able to take bandages off 2 days after surgery. Was able to take a shower and dress myself. The lining in the sling is bugging me. I was prescribed pain meds 1-2 every 6 hrs. I am taking one every 3:30. This Surgery has been no picnic. Pain is bad. I had frozen shoulder before surgery. I am 6 day post opp.
Thank you so much for your video. I didn't know what to expect with my surgery and your videos helped me feel more confident and comfortable about having surgery.
Thank you Dr.! Well explained video. You hit upon concerns that I have pre- and post-op. I'll be sure to follow your suggestions, especially the one on cleansing the skin before surgery. Well done!
Dangit, I wanted to like and comment on your sling video. Very informative. I'd just been complaining that they don't explain the basics and reasons and dos and don'ts of the sling and after surgery. Just had surgery yesterday and a half. What a nice guy. I'd enjoy meeting. Thanks
I'm a bilateral apt I'm above-knee on the left in Hip disarticulation on the right. I have torn badly my distal supraspinatus my subscapularis my infraspinatus and my intra-articular bicep tendon with a slab tear. I also have to have an acromioplasty done. I know I'm having a good Doctor dr. Mark morrey at Mayo Clinic is doing the surgery on July 22nd my question for you is how would somebody that is wheelchair-bound do the pendulum exercise you were showing? And with me being wheelchair-bound how would you approach my rehab? At Mayo they say that I won't be able to use any weight bearing on my arm for 4 months period and then therapy would start. But wouldn't that make my joint freeze up? Or is that something they want the happen for it to heal right? I was just curious how you would approach rehabbing a wheelchair-bound man after surgery for this
Thank you Dr. McKay for all the information on what is expected after the rotator surg. I would have these videos as a must view before and after surg. so patients know what to expect. Much appreciated.
It is a DonJoy UltraSling IV, and just do an internet search on that name and you can find many places to order them from. Some places have them in stock, and some order them so be careful when ordering and call whoever you order it from to make sure they have it if you need it quickly. There are cheaper slings but you get what you pay for. This sling has a lot of padding everywhere that a lot of other slings don't have. Read, read, and read these instructions again to make sure it is set up exactly like the picture instructions, because just about every part of this is held on by Velcro and may not be in the correct place when you get it. It is supposed to be factory set up for the right shoulder but my pillow was flipped around where the buckle was pointed at my back which made it hard to take on and off until I figured out I just had to flip it around. I didn't realize at the time that everything can be adjusted. The straps are very long but are made that way on purpose. If you need a shorter strap, just keep looping the straps in a circle, because again this is held together by Velcro at each end so just by running the straps through a loop your strap gets shorter, and then can be fastened at any point. Also, both ends can be adjusted because these people have thought of everything! Even the Velcro ends on one end pulls apart where you could cut the strap off shorter and put the Velcro end back on, but don't do that, use the loop method to shorten to where you need the straps to be. I wasn't happy with this sling until I figured out how just about EVERYTHING adjusted, and once I got it adjusted for me I wouldn't use the cheaper sling again!!! I now love this sling! Leave plenty of room on the B and C straps (of the opposite shoulder from surgery) or else it is harder to put the sling on each time and it isn't as comfortable. It took me a day and a half before I had the sling in a really comfortable position. I wish someone had shared all of this before I tried setting mine up.
@@jrwinkler323 good heads up...I had the Ultra Sling ll for years and it finally died 2 days after my surg last week....going to order the lV as soon as possible. Thanks for the reply
none of these videos talk about what the surgery can do to your hand an fingers, I just did a full standard replacement and my thumb and pointer fingers are still numb week after. if I knew that, I would had declined the nerve blocker they want to use for pain, they never mention all that can go wrong on a $80K surgery
i told my wife what you said about the pendulum excercise and I got a bollocking cos her physio leaflet said otherwise thanks a lot cps she knows everything so watch out
Best and most explanatory video by a doctor when it comes to shoulder surgery I would highly recommend this same doctor for other videos as well
