Approximately ONE month ago I purchased her from an auction and well... we discovered she was pregnant about 4 weeks later! Here is a little background information: Belle is a 7 year old Dapple Grey, Percheron X (we think Andalusian too) who is just under 16.2hh. Such fun. All the possibilites! When I was 17, I am now 88, my Dad announced my pony was going to have a bany! Suprise, she was now 12 and I got her at a year old. Nothing happened before! Next day the filly arrived by the time I got off the school bus. We named
her Misty. Her Mother Babe was a big pony, 14.2. My Dad kept Babe till she died. She was in her 30's.

Im learning alot from Shae, but I also watch other horsey channels as well. Can never learn to much when it comes to animals, for me at least, especially horses.

Because this person is randomly posting the same comment about treatment on multiple other videos. I looked it up and if you type this username into youtube you find a completely different youtube channel. The first comment under this comment probable meant something along the lines of that no?

Foals can be a surprise even when you know the breeding! My friend had a beautiful paint mare and couldn't wait to see how the baby would look. Well, she was all white with black ears! Looked like it was wearing a Mickey mouse hat! She was "special" in looks and was greatly loved by her owners! This will be fun to watch, Blessings All!

Yes, breed my mare, went out one morning and the process was starting, got to help deliver the foal, so cool, process of birthing a foal and raising it , is a beautiful experience all horse lovers should have , hope its all good😃

@@FernandoTorrera very doubtful though considering she came from an Amish farm that used her as a broodmare. I'm just hoping that she is in foal to a non-draft stallion. I told Shae that if I owned her I'd be tempted to breed her to a Thoroughbred, which could result in a nice sport horse type foal.

This is so exciting. I have a major soft spot for grey mares, anyway, so this just adds to the fun. You probably already know this, but you'll want to start handling the foal very early on, within a few days, if not hours, of foaling. You mentioned not having been around breeding horses before, so one caution: when you start trying to touch the foal, be very careful of Belle. She's an experienced mom, but you don't know how protective she might be of her baby. You don't want to risk getting hurt, but early handling is important for the foal. If you can, try to spend some time with an experienced breeder who could fill you in on best practices. I'm seriously jealous. I used to spend a lot of time with horses, but I haven't in years, so I'm living vicariously here!

I am so glad she came to you. Anyone could of bought her and started her under saddle when she was heavily pregnant and stress her out. Your an amazing person and I’m so glad your her owner. I cannot wait for the foal to arrive, no matter the colour,gender or breed I’m excited I absolutely love how you train your horse and treat them!❤❤
Yes! It’s so true. Some people just jump right on without any care in the world and it bothers me. Firstly, quarantine is so important then allowing the horse to settle and bond with not only me but the new horses is also important! I always do a ton of groundwork & training before riding as well.

Shae, I really think that Belle should be your second “ Heart” horse, and that she and Jiminy should live out their lives together at Free Spirit. This is so exciting! I really appreciate how you explain little things like the difference between a colt and a filly for us who aren't exactly in the equestrian scene but still love horses from afar! Belle is my dream horse and hope to one day have a horse like her!
So awesome and practical that you are researching and preparing for this big event!! Not just for your own self, but for Belle and the baby as well. Sharing and teaching what you've learned, explaining it clearly and accepting comments or recommendations is the humble defination and appropriate practice of true horsemanship and responsible animal husbandry. You are absolutely 100 % correct that it's ALWAYS about the animal(s) care, comfort and well-being first and not about youself.
Before I got my horse I went to my amazing friends (licensed and professional breeders) place and was able to hands-on watch and learn all about the stallions, mares and babies. It was extremely educational. I had never owned a horse before but always dreamed of having one. To make my dream come true I dove head first into gleaning and absorbing EVERYTHING I could to make myself, my home and my family as ready as possible for my sweet AQHA yearling. It was eye opening and truly fascinating to see the processes of breeding, births, handling, medical issues, hoof care, mouth care, dietary needs, training and even the factual hard reality of illness and death. I mucked stalls, handled the horses and "lived the barn life" at their place for nearly a year before my little guy was born and came home with me.
Just a suggestion...perhaps your vet knows of other mares in your area that are foaling right now and their owners may allow you to come and witness those births so you can have the opportunity to experience what/how/why things are done.
Cameras are great tools and accessories. My friends had CCTV lines from their house to the barn so they could monitor the mares & babies 24/7.

I’m so excited for you and Belle! I so loved working with the babies, watching them grow and learning their personalities. The camera is an excellent idea but labor and delivery takes some time…you’ll know when she is getting close to foaling. I seriously doubt you will “miss it”! Best of luck on this exciting adventure!

Shae, Thank you for taking such responsible loving care of Belle and your horses. I wish everyone were that way and would research and educate themselves about truly what horses need. Having a pregnant mare adds responsibility and cost..

Belle is one very Special Mare. Did you happen to notice that when she is in her stall standing by the gate..... watch her ears twitching all around. She is watching you and listening to you talk about her!! I noticed that in the previous video & again in this one.
