  • Hey Horse Lovers! We were hit with SO much snow over the weekend! Today we are going to see how Belle integrates with the herd! Will she be the Boss Mare? Will she get along with the other horses? Watch to see how I integrate and do my best to give her a smooth transition. Here is a little background: Belle of the Ball is a 7 year old Dapple Grey, Percheron X (we think Andalusian too) who is just under 16.2hh. I bought her at an auction a little over two weeks ago and TODAY we begin her training. In this video you will get to see her meet the herd and acclimate. You will also get to spend this winter day with us at Free Spirit Farm and as a BONUS you will get to see my FIRST LIBERTY Session with Buzz Lightyear! IF YOU ENJOY MY CONTENT SUBSCRIBE!

I'm with you on keeping horses out as much as possible. They are outdoor animals. They would rather be outside grazing with their buddies in inclement weather than in a barn. We have a barn but prefer large pastures with run-in sheds they can use if they wish - which they never do. Always feel sorry for the expensive dressage/event horses you see standing in stalls under sheets/blankets from ears to rump 24/7/365, bell boots, leg wraps on all four, ear bonnets on if they ever step outside. They are put into small corrals so they can't run around and hurt themselves (?). Then they wonder why the horses are crazy and flip out over everything? Yeeesh. Let them be horses, people!

@@freespiritequestrian Oddly enough, you know the super expensive Thoroughbred stallions worth tens of hundreds of millions of bucks? They mostly live outside in large paddocks. They are only brought into the barns for grooming, feeding or in the event of dangerous weather. Otherwise they are outside with cameras to monitor them. I've seen these incredibly expensive studs in the winter, shaggy as bears because they are roughing it in the open. Same with the mares. That's a good life for a horse.

Could not agree with you more! Just purchased my dressage horse in August this year. She as 6 year old that has never been in the pasture grazing with other horses before in her life. I’m of a firm believer that a horse must be a horse to be happy and productive. She loves being with the rest of the herd (6). Still does silly things that gets weird looks from the other horses, but she’s happy and much more willing to work.

I love that you’d rather let your horses enjoy their freedom roaming a paddock rather then standing in a stall all day, tons of people don’t do that and it’s truely a blessing to see. They are definitely living their best lives! I don’t think I’ll ever stop watching your videos. You’re incredible and i just want you to know that! god bless :)

Fabulous Training with Buzz. He's very smart and he listens well. Just goes to show that treating a pony like a true "little horse" and not just a stuffed animal gets the most out of them and makes them a stellar companion. Belle is sooo pretty moving out in the pasture. I'm sure with a little more ground work her muscles will develop more and she'll even show more of her lovely conformation.

Buzz is sooo cute! His little face looking up through the stall grate to greet you is precious. Miss Belle watches you more than she watches the other horses. Your are her alpha "mare" and she wants to have you stay that way without competition from the others for your attention. The others know this, so expect some competition among them over you. Kyle is such a great helper. Nice to have strength when needed, such as opening the barn door when it's stuck. I wonder how the horses view him. I'd bet them place him in the hierarchy as being the second human, you being the first because you directly handle and take care of them while he supports you. The "herd" is bigger than just the horses.

Omgosh, Belle looks lovely out there flying around in the beautiful snow. To me Belle acts a little snooty and full of herself. I guess being a mare she’s feel like she’s arrived and doesn’t need to prove and thing to anyone in her horse world.
It would be interesting to know if the Amish family kept any of her foals, how many she’s had and how many live births she’s had.

Woah!! Belle did so well adjusting to the herd, and they all seemed to get along great! Totally amazing to see her already being relaxed with them. And Buzz’s improvement is crazy!! He is truly one amazing little pony 😍. Also, I have good news: I am getting riding lessons soon!! I am so unbelievably excited! Your channel has done so well in already teaching me things I need to know about horsemanship, and I’m excited to apply what I’ve already learned. 🥰❤️

I think you guys got all of our Western PA snow because we got hardly any. We did get a lot of winds and rain though. I know now why Belle reminds me of an Arabian. The origins of the Percheron are local mares from La Perche, France and Arabian stallions that were bred to them. It explains so much. Glad Belle did great with the herd. Buzz is proving to be so smart and Mushu likes to be the comedian. You got a great gang there.

You made me laugh when you mentioned your gate overlapping. You are not the only one that it bugs. But no one will notice unless they are OCD. ❤

I love your new mare!❤ Her coat is beautiful and she reminds me of an Andalusian that I follow on another channel. She sure seems to have nicely integrated into the herd.

I really enjoy all of your video's Shae, especially this one that you showed us how you teach your verbal commands on the lunch line first. Buzz was a little stinker when you first started out with him and then like magic he's turned into a big ham, especially if he thinks there's going to be a treat involved. He is such a darling little guy and fun to watch. I must tell you though that Jiminity ( sp ) is my favorite of all your horses. You two were a match made in Heaven.
