A couple of tips for anyone using this method. Firstly thank you Peter for uploading this. If I hadn't seen it I would have been rolling around under the van struggling to do the job from there, doing the starter that way was bad enough and if I had to do it again I would do it from the top. It took me less than an hour to completely strip and rebuild the front end of the van, time well spent in my opinion to make the job so much easier. Didn't have to go under the van at all except to retrieve a dropped socket.
Firt tip: Radiator. If you lift it off it's bottom mounts there is enough give in the pipes for the whole thing to move forward a couple of inches. This gives a ton of room to get in and do the job without having to remove any pipes of any description.
Second tip: Stretch fit belt. Discovered this by accident. I didn't try to remove the belt first as it felt very tight and I figured it would fall off when I took the alternator bolts out. Firstly, I took out the top bolt and the rear bottom bolt. When I slackened the front bottom bolt the alternator pivoted foreward under the tension of the belt until the belt was slack enough to fall off. Refitting was just a reversal of the same process. Fit the front bottom bolt of the alternator but not fully tight, tip the alternator foreward until you can easily get the belt on then tip it back to get the other bolts in. There is a bit of belt tension to overcome while tipping it back but I used a big screwdriver between the alternator body and the lower mount to make it easy to lever it into position.

Just did the same but on a peugeot boxer i think same chassis.
NO NEED TO DISMANTLE THE FRONT
Release the alternator and push it to the left where fender cover is. And from underneath you can grab it. 20 min job

I've just followed this video as I replaced both auxiliary belts on my Relay. Unfortunately using your method I just couldn't get the stretch belts back on. I bought a special part to refit both belts. Took less than 5 minutes this way, the part is a LASER part - 3626. Available on Ebay etc Suits Citroen Relay, Peugeot Boxer, Fiat Ducato using the 22DT engine.

Thank you for the video Peter.
I have just completed this job on a 2012 Peugeot Boxer 2.2 Hdi van a couple of days ago (August 2019) and I agree; its not a job for the faint hearted. The van has 90500 miles on the clock. I was able to remove the alternator passed the power steering pipes with a bit of encouragement, over the front chassis rail and out of the gap between the chassis rail and the front bumper. I didn't have to remove the front grill and tilt the radiator forward to make retrival space as some have had to. I also didn't have to remove the turbo pipe either.
The new replacement alternator went in the same way the old one came out. I found that if I removed the power steering pump pulley I had more space to get my hands in lining up the alternator to get the 3 fixing bolts in. I also used a tapered wooden wedge resting on the power steering pump to assist with raising the alternator into place to locate the upper bolt into its hole which I did first. As a precaution, I removed one of the bolts that secures the side engine plate on that has a protruding stud on it as I didn't want that damaging the new alternators windings. I replaced it once the alternator was firmly fixed in place.
My van also has the drive belts that do not have a belt tensioner. Apparently these are 'stretch belts' so you only need to fit them after the alternator and power steering pump pulley are fixed back into place. I turned the engine clockwise with a socket and bar and the belt stretched on fine. I was a bit apprehensive about doing this at first as I have never experienced this concept before. Maybe that other video of the Citroen Relay alternator replacement you referred to was a van that had fitted airconditioning.
I also have to put my hands up and say that I didn't know that the alternators come with clutch drive pulleys either.
This job probably took me around 6 hours to do over 2 days and cost £238.00 for a new (not refurbished or reconditioned) replacement alternator and 2 drive belts. Some sites report that a new alternator from Peugeot/Citroen is around £540 and then it still has to be fitted.

Just done this job and agree it,s easier with front panel disconnected. Does not take long ,then simply lift radiator off it,s rubber top mountings and pull forward a few inches and loosen 3 thirteen mm bolts. Only reason to get underneath is to disconnect/re-connect power steering and alternator stretch belts, was a much easier and quicker job than i expected and saved money on garage labour costs.

You dont need to take the front end off. I did this job and took the front off like you did only you can do it from reaching up underneath.

I will try that one . Thanks
... and after an hour or so. Pry bars (small ones) and some elbow grease. Success. For all of you trying this repair. Just wanna say: this is a good way.

Hi mate, you mentioned 3 bolts to hold the alternator on, 2 at the top & 1 at the bottom....however, I have a 4th bolt at the bottom which has a torque head on it?....does your's have this too?

Esskie .. mine didnt have 4 only the 3 that you can see on the alternator. Have you got a replacement for it yet ? Ie can you see where the bolts are on that ? Food for thought they do suffer with broken wireing looms and if you vehical doesnt suffer from a flat battery only then charging light on .i would investigate the loom first befor you purchase an alternator
