  • So what can you actually do with a physics masters degree? It turns out, pretty much! There are actually great career choices for physicists, many of which are not immediately clear to the casual observer. So I compiled a list of career choices I wanted to show you, in case you are also interested in pursuing a physics degree and want to know more about what you can do with it. I split this list up in two categories, physics related and non-physics related. I completed my M.Sc. at TUM this year.

    Very informative and detailed. I'm planning on doing my bachelors in Physics at the University of Leipzig because I found studying in German super hard. Your video really helps with how to move forward. Thanks a lot and will definitely keep following your content. All the best with everything!

    Hi, keep producing these kind of videos, they are great. Do you know whether one gets the skills work in software engineering, data science and consulting with a degree in mathematics?

    • @ac_insights
      @ac_insights  Год назад

      Thanks for the kind words! Yes, mathematics essentially covers all the CS math fundamentals. And, at least at TUM, during your bachelors degree you can minor in physics or computer science as a math student. So you will cover things like discrete maths, programming, and computer logic. It is probably smart to also take some hands-on programming courses as well, many of which are open for any major.

    In American you can become a patent agent. You need a PHD in a science (math, physics, biology etc) and need to pass the patent bar, which is different from the general bar. A law degree is not required for this. Patent agents can write and file patents, respond to office actions and other things. They are employed by companies and law firms and generally work under a lawyer. The patent lawyer is someone who has a PhD in a science and also passes the bar exam. They can argue cases if infringement in court. They don't make as much as patent lawyers but make 150USD and up.

    Hi...
    Ich habe Frage nach dem Gehaltsnterschied zwischen FH und Uni - Absolventen.. ich möchte mich dafür entscheiden, ob ich Uni oder FH besuchen will... Ich habe im Internet gelesen, dass Uni-Absolventensgehalt höher und weltweit erkannter ist als FH... Wie ist deine Ansicht dazu? Danke

      @ac_insights  Год назад

      Hi Hänsel,
      Das ist eine gute Frage. Generell muss man sehen, was besser zu einem passt. Die FH sollte mehr Praxisorientiert sein (Praxissemester an der FH München in vielen Studiengängen was ich von meinen FH-Freunden höre) und bei vergleichbaren Studiengängen wie Maschinenbau ist die Mathematik vergleichsweise einfacher. An der Uni sind die Vorlesungen, zumindest in meiner Erfahrung, wesentlich theoretischer ausgelegt. Auch kann man mE z.B. Physik oder andere Naturwissenschaften nur an der Uni studieren. Rückblickend war für mich auf jeden Fall die Uni die richtige Entscheidung. Bzgl. internationaler Anerkennung, da spielt die TUM auf jeden Fall oben mit. Das gleiche kann man für die meisten FHs nicht sagen (zumindest was Bekanntheit und wissenschaftlichen Impact angeht, in meiner Erfahrung). Auch ist es oftmals wesentlich schwieriger, Jobs in einem bestimmten Bereich zu finden wenn man an einer non-Target Uni/FH studiert hat. Das gesagt, viele meiner Freunde haben auch an der FH studiert und waren mit ihrer Wahl glücklich. Du musst wissen, was dich interessiert und wo du dich im Berufsleben später (ungefähr) sehen möchtest. Hoffe es konnte dir weiterhelfen!

    hi love the videos . Did you get your Bachelor degree also in TUM ? if so how did you find learning physics in german ? was it difficult ?

    • @ac_insights
      @ac_insights  Год назад

      Yes, I got my B.Sc. at TUM in physics as well! Studying physics in German the early years wasn't too bad actually. We had plenty of foreign students then as well, and every exercise always had an English tutor session and exam (if you wanted) as well. The most difficult part was the physics.

    For those wanting to study (baccalaureate degree) at TUMS coming from an American HS, what advice on overcoming those initial requirements can you share?

    • @ac_insights
      @ac_insights  Год назад

      I think the biggest hurdle as an American would probably be the language aptitude proof. At TUM, there is no central admission office. Instead, each program has its own admission process. You can find the admission requirements for each B.Sc. major on the TUM website! Be strong in the natural sciences as a general tip. Hope this helps!

  • @maximilian2782

    I am also considering studying physics at TUM. Did you have problems finding a job in consulting, or did you quickly find an entry-level position?

    • @ac_insights
      @ac_insights  Год назад

      In my experience, it is very helpful to gain practical experience in industry during your studies (i.e., not lab work) if you want to work in any non-physics related field like consulting afterwards. One of my friends had a lot of non-consulting industry experience before starting their consulting job and this definitely helps if you want to break into that field!

      @@Noah-ot1sv I never graduated with a Masters in Physics. I knew of someone who had a bachelor's in Mechanical Engineering and a masters in Physics. He said it was the best decision he ever made. The practicalities of engineering and theories of physics complimented him in various ways. It's always good to have both.
      As for me, Bachelor's of science in Mechanical Engineering, Robotics concentration. I'm going to pursue a Masters in Computational Engineering.

      Hi Ishraq, unfortunately, the in-depth video about applying to TUM as an international student is out of my scope, since I do not have any personal experience doing so and the production cost is too high (I have to balance my time).
