I can't imagine how big he would have gotten had he lived. One of the best singer/song writers.. Check out One Less Set of Footsteps and Time in a Bottle.
He would've been super Big... But he said after his last tour he was giving it up. He was tired of going on the road. Maybe go back to teaching, be home more with his family. The Beatles gave up touring and just recorded. I know hes no Beatle but he was really good and everyone loved him. He could have just recorded. 🤎💥
Workin at the car wash blues was awesome, story about doin time in the joint and despite his great intellect and talent, all they see is the record so he’s stuck working at a carwash
My favorite song by Croce. "And I carry it with me like my daddy did. But I'm livin' the dream that he kept hid" is such a powerful line, for me. The odd thing about this song is that it was not written by Jim Croce. The team of Gimbel and Fox were responsible for the song's creation. But, like all his other work, Jim Croce made it his song.
This song helped me hold on during some really dark days. I was a young teen living in a children's home and really struggling to retain something of myself and my family. Great choice.
The duo Jim Croce and Maury Muehleisen were quite a pair. Jim's voice and Maury's guitar blended so well. It's too bad they perished in a plane crash in 1973 early in their musical careers. Photographs And Memories and New York's Not My Home are terrific songs too.
Another beautiful song from this great singer songwriter who we lost so young. This is the music I grew up with. Unique storyteller & ballad singer. He touches your soul.
My favorite Jim Croce song. When he died in airplane crash we were stunned. I’ve always wondered what great songs he would have written and or performed Very sad he is not with us.
At the moment you see Django's name on his saddle ( a name was something slaves really weren't ever granted) the barn door opens and the song Just rips. Tarantino knows exactly what he's doing
I remember when I was around 5 or 6 my mom would listen to here records and her two main artist was Jim Croce and James Taylor. I’m almost 40 years old Jim Croce and James Taylor are my favorite artist to this day, reminds me of my mom. Love you mom miss you so much thank you for the music🤙🏻
Hey Harri .. You simply must listen to Jim Croce's "Lover's Cross" soon .. It's such a poignant and relatable break-up song .. The melody and the lyrics are both just wonderful .. You will really enjoy it .. I promise ! .. Wayne
Yes, yes, yes! Many of Jim's songs didn't get much airplay here in the UK, even though 'Time in a Bottle' and 'I'll have to say I love you in a song' were minor hits. I heard 'Lovers Cross' on the John Peel radio show late one night, listening under the bedclothes when I should have been asleep! I was too young to have the money to be buying LPs, and probably too young to really understand the lyrics, but the beauty of it knocked me out, and I never forgot it, even though I didn't hear it again for decades ... You'll love it Harri! Please listen, you'll be so glad you did!
@@sonia4641 Love your story, Sonia .. I remember doing very similar things to you and having the same lasting memories of songs like this that really made an impact on the younger me .. Unfortunately, being in Australia, I wasn't lucky enough to listen to the John Peel show .. The man was apparently legendary and gave many artists the break they needed to become successdul .. Thanks again for your great comment .. and hopefully Harri will grant our request ! .. Wayne
This is one of the few songs Jim sang, if not the only one, that he did not write. Originally he did not want to do it but thankfully he was talked into it. It's my favorite recording of his. 😎
Croce was a poet who wrote about his life experiences, people he encountered and dreams he fostered. Left the planet too soon and worth knowing through his music.
For someone who died so incredibly young, there is an incredible depth and variety to plumb. His songs were so varied, his tone swung so much from absolutely silly fun to social commentary to worlds in-between, and then again to love, and then back again to spiritual things at large ... there was so much really there but also so much left to give ...
For me, I got that reaction from my late mother. Being her first child to purchase property. The satisfaction in her eyes patted my on the back and her half grin of approval was enough to let me know how proud she was of me. She was basically a single parent to 5 kids. Struggled profusely along the way. A life long renter. I think I made her feel good which made me feel good.
Jim had so many great songs, one I always liked best was "New York's not my home" about how he was ripped off in music Biz and found NY to be very unfriendly.
It was played in the movie Django a bit after Django agreed to become partners with the Dr. when they were beginning their "work". Love your reaction. Keep on keeping on ✌️😎🎶🤘💯💯
Another great American singer/songwriter to explore (if you haven't already) is Jackson Browne. He has a very deep well of material to immerse yourself in.
When I was little my parent's listened to Croce and I liked the upbeat tunes like Leroy Brown. But now that I'm old I think this might be his best song. Some songs you have to have some life experience to appreciate.
Ah the story tellers! You just sit back and the pictures they paint slide across your mind. Croce. John Denver, Paul Simon, Billy Joel. So many more. A unique gift.
Gordon Lightfoot, James Taylor, Harry Chapin, Merle Haggard, John Prine, early Elton John, early Rod Stewart, Donovan's "Catch the Wind", others I can't remember just now. The singer/songwriters/storytellers, always the music I love best.
This song is in the movie Django , with Jamie Foxx riding tall, proud and strong on the saddle after dressing in brand new clothes. It made a big impact on me to see a black man portrayed in such a way.
Really enjoying these reactions to Jim Croce. It's been a very long time since I last heard any of his music. Hope you soon react to his song "Workin' at the Car Wash Blues." It's another really good, fun song of his.
Dude! I have loved this song for decades but I have NEVER thought of it like that. THANK YOU for helping me see another perspective of this timeless classic!!!
There is a documentary about Jim Croce here on RUclips. I highly recommend watching it. He absolutely lived what he wrote and he shared himself and his home and family with everybody musically!! It's a fantastic story and a shame he had to die so young!
This was the theme song for the movie "The Last American Hero" in 1973. The movie was about NASCAR driver Junior Jackson. Jeff Bridges played Jackson. I had no idea it was used in another movie 39 years later.
Maury muehleisen who died in the same crash played the amazing guitar with Jim. He did a song " A Song I heard" Well worth a listen for wonderful guitar work and vocals
The first time I heard this song was when I was leaving the parking lot after a job interview. The radio announcer said that Jim had died that day in a plane crash, and the song was released that day. One of those times you remember exactly where you were when you heard it.
Tomorrow 9-20-21 will be the 48th anniversary of the plane crash that ended the life and career of this amazing Singer songwriter. Thankfully he left a legacy of beautiful songs we can listen to and remember. The saddest part of his dying was he never knew he had a hit album as he died at about the same time as the album came out. He was even considering leaving the music business if his album wasn't well received.
Once again, since I was 11 years old, each time I hear one of his songs again, I say.. that one, that's my favorite... then I hear another, and another and those are my favorites, till I hear the next. Thanks for appreciating so much of the soundtrack of my life!!
Love this! When I was a child and i would hear this song I would think it was about my home state of Maine. Hahahahaha! I know better now but still love it.
How interesting. When I was a child I thought it was about California -- moving down the highway, rolling down the highway -- multi-lane freeways were still fairly new here back in the early 70's. I guess that comes from hearing this on the AM pop radio stations my folks used to listen to on trips to see relatives and such back then.
Another beautiful song, another beautiful reaction!! As you know well, Harri, I am contractually obliged to continue to pound Blood Sweat and Tears over your head with every comment I give until you finally, finally, finally, finally get around to reacting to one of them!! You know you want to!!! How about "Lucretia MacEvil"? "Spinning Wheel"? "You've Made Me So Very Happy"? Keep up the great work, Harri!!!

I remember years ago watching an interview with Cheech Marin, who is supposedly good friends with Jim Croce. He said that nobody but his friends heard his really good stuff. That only happened when they were sitting around drinking beer and smoking. I can't imagine!
Thank you for capturing the beauty and meaning of this song in words. He wrote and sang so many amazing songs but this one has the most emotional impact. Just hits me in my core as I'm living my life not just for me but for my father and brother and fine men who came before me. I have a lot to live up to. I go there proud.
I recently lost my grandpa, my last grandparent… this song and a handful other remind me of all of them. I’m still young but it’s hard for me to think I have to lift the rest of my life with just a memory.

Jim Croce like John Denver had such a command of the language. They could tear your heart out when they sang. Still missing them to this day
They both die in a crash plane

And Dan Fogelberg
He does not get as much credit. But Al Stewart is a GREAT story teller.
Marty Robbins also

His son, A.J. Croce, sings many of his songs with his same sound. Can you imagine being HIM singing THAT song?
Wow, just read A.J.'s bio and he's suffered a lot of tragedy in his life.
A.J. has a very good voice, but doesn't have that special something sound his father did.
