Jim Croce" Time in a Bottle" will bring a tear to your eyes when you consider his untimely death at 30
Such a classic
Beautiful song
I will check that song out.
Even more when I found out he wrote it for his son.
@@SaeedReacts., hey man, I’m from Georgia, USA, and a former English grammar and literature teacher. I just want to say that English may not be your first language, but it’s close to 100% perfect! Better than many of my fellow Americans! 👌 You have a delightful accent which almost makes me believe you’re from Brooklyn, NY, or from New Jersey, if I didn’t know you’re Belgian! ☺️ You also have a great personality, a spirit of humility, a hunger for knowledge, and it’s very obvious that you are well-read! I would love to read some of your writings if you are a published author! 👍
The first time I had heard the backstory on Leroy Brown, after 50 odd years. Thanks Saeed.
Same! Interesting to hear the backstory.
Im so glad i clicked on this video. It was so interesting to hear him talk about that.
Thanks so much for watching.
Same - I never saw this performance until now.
Me too!
Another great folk rock singer songwriter who we lost so young. This is the music I grew up with. Unique storyteller & ballad singer. He touches your soul. He had a lot of great hits in his short career. "Photographs & Memories", "Time In A Bottle", "Operator", "You Don't Mess Around With Jim", "I Got A Name", "Workin' At The Car Wash Blues," "I'll Have To Say I Love You In A Song" etc.
yes to all of these!
Thanks for the recommendations!
add in "One Less Set of Footsteps" and "Roller Derby Queen"......
Jim Croce is just FUN. Well, most of the time. He actually has some very very serious tunes as well. "Operator", not least. Do check that one out.
Will check it out. Thanks for watching!
Jim is the more lighthearted, American version of Gordon Lightfoot, at least in my head. I remember going to the local diner where they had the little juke boxes on the table. I used to beg my mom for a nickel and I always chose one of Jim's songs.
Leroy looked like a jigsaw puzzle with a couple of pieces gone!!!.... Leroy met his match .
One of the most beautiful songs I've heard by Jim Croce is "Time in a Bottle". It came out around the time he died.
❤❤❤
Didn't he write this for his son?
Will check it out.
@@roniboyd613 yes. It's one of those songs like Everything I Own which sound like it's written for a lost lover but is actually for a family member
@@thomasmacdiarmid8251 thank you☺️
On Thursday, Sept. 20, 1973, singer-songwriter Jim Croce died when his chartered plane crashed shortly after takeoff in Natchitoches, Louisiana. He was 30 years old. His son was 1 week away from his 2nd birthday. Today, AJ Croce tours singing his father's songs.
That is heartbreaking 😞
@@SaeedReacts. The guitar player you see, Maury Muehleisen, also died that crashalong with 4 others. I was 17 in high school, all the kids were talking about it the nexday, many very sad. Jim and Maury were great team, and our generation looked at this plane crash in the same way the previous generation had cried when Buddy Holly's died in a plane crash in Feb 1959. Bad Bad Leroy Brown official record had a piano and full band and background singers on it. Went to #1. Even many adults liked the song at the time. Croce wrote funny songs, love songs, and very sdd songs as well. We lost a gem of a man.
I remember him being killed on my birthday.... one of many sad birthdays.
@@thomastimlin1724 Maury was only 24 when he died. They were both so young and so talented.
Too young - so much potential. I was a kid in the 70's, and heard Jim's music, then!
I grew up on this, my mom loved Jim Croce, Gordon Lightfoot, Loggins & Messina, Seals and Croft, Neil Diamond, Paul Simon, Harry Chapin, Billy Joel and many others. We continued the tradition with my niece, who would dance around to this when she was 3.
Yes, "Time in A Bottle" is timeless ballad by Jim, as well as "Operator". Would love to see your reaction to both.
Will check those out. Thanks for the recommendations.
I never saw Jim perform this, only heard the record.
Thanks.
Jim passed away 51 years ago next month. What a legend lost way too soon.. . RIP...!!
Memories. My dad owned a bar in Philly back in '74. The place was packed one Saturday night, full of cigarette smoke. I remember all the patrons started singing this. People loved it when it came out.
Thats an awesome memory. Thanks for sharing it.
Dresden Files for life!!! I own a blue Beetle and saw a dog that reminded me of Mouse just yesterday! 😉 💀🔥So glad you listened to this one! I grew up listening to his storytelling and it was a huge influence on me. Such an amazing artist who we lost at such a young age.
You actually have a blue Beetle? Thats awesome! We need the next book 😄
Amazing song!
Very heartbreaking to learn about his story.
I lived in Chicago, for 9 years -songs about Chicago people and locations, are always great - lots of music, and talent - and the foods, multitude of people!
He was just really just coming on his own when he was so tragically lost. Ironically, his son who was a toddler when his Dad was killed, just performed here in Knoxville. He looks and sounds so much like his Dad. His song Operator, and Roller Derby Queen are must hears
Wow, that is a tragic story. Will explore more of his music.
ruclips.net/video/piueD0R0CZM/видео.htmlsi=6hrkCqRvpC_JL-i5
Probably the greatest American song writer of all time in my opinion.
I've listened to Jim Croce's music since I was a little kid, when he was still alive and creating new songs, but realized as you began the video of him talking that I had never heard his speaking voice in all these (50+) years! So neat, so personal, to hear him talking!
❤LOVE Jim Croce!!!
Jim's great. Folk rock. Has great ballads.
Saeed, my husband and I love watching your reactions. We are senior citizens so we grew up listening to the oldies. We live in America, and we live on a very fixed income or we would donate to your channel. Please forgive us. We would like to request you react to John Denver’s Annie’s Song, and Jim Croce’s Time In A Bottle. Also, both artists were killed in plane crashes. We remember them well, with hearts broken. I know you react to donations but please react to these as we know you will love them. Also, Jim Croce’s son looks and sounds like his father. It’s very comforting to his father’s fans. Thank you so much for your daily reactions. Pamela Jones
Thanks so much for watching and the kind words. That means a lot!
I will add Annie's song to my list. I reacted to Time in a Bottle by Jim Croce, that video is on the channel.
Have a wonderful day, Pamela and give my best regards to your husband.
I Had Both of Those Beautiful Sung at My Wedding'!! ❤❤❤
Broke my heart when he passed.
❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
Their is a big difference between a singer and a singer songwriter. Totally different personalities. ❤C
100% . Have a great day!
I was almost 14 when he was killed in the plane wreck. I really loved his music (and still do), so it was devastating.
First musician death I remember, I was 7 years old. My parents loved Jim Croce, especially daddy. Don't Mess Around With Jim was his favorite, probably because that was his name too, lol! I think I'm subscribing to you, you focus on the story in the song and I like that, as a writer myself. I watched your Bobbie Gentry reaction a few days ago. ❤
An amazing artist and his life was cut way too short. Really great writing and its so inspiring.
Thanks so much for watching my video's! Means a lot!
My first favorite song when I was 3 or 4 years old.
Jim was so good.He and mgreat song to this day
Jim Croce has so many good songs! You have to react to more. I've Got A Name is one of my favorites.
I recorded a reaction to Time in A Bottle and will check out more
Yeah, he died in a plane crash. He just started making the charts when he died. It was sad. I remember the day.
Queen's "Bring Back That Leroy Brown" is considered a tribute to Jim Croce's "Bad, Bad Leroy Brown"
I had my first daughter on Sept. 20, 1973. I didn't realize until the next day that Jim had died in a plane crash on the 20th. Broke my heart a little bit.
Oh, man, Saeed is a Harry Dresden fan?! Even more to love about this channel!
I love those books! I am now re reading the series and hoping the next one comes out soon 😄
Another great Jim Croce song is "Rapid Roy" and then there is "Roller derby Queen" is a good one and another one "Speedball Tucker". Those are three more character songs by Jim and that are great songs
"Operator" is one of my all-time favourite songs, from any artist. Jim was taken from this world far too soon. A poet, a masterful songwriter. Definitely look up "Operator (That’s Not the Way It Feels) [Official Music Video]".
Looking forward to more of his music!
To get a whole different feel, check out some of Jim's ballads... "Operator", "Time in a Bottle", and, "I Have to Say I Love You in a Song", "I Got a Name" are all great, but "Operator" is my favorite..
I added those to my list. Thanks so much!
Operator is another great one by Jim🖖🏻🇨🇦
I just published my reaction to that song. So good!
My youngest son (now 30 😳) loves Dresden ... my brother (65) love Croce ... gone too soon
They are some of my favorite books :) I bet he is waiting on the next one as well :).
I truly love this song and the storytelling. Definitely will explore more.
RIP Jim & Maury, and probably Leroy Brown wherever he is.
And Dresden Files were solid.
Great song!
And books 😄
Johnny Cash
A boy named Sue
Performed at San Quentin prison as an alumni.
I reacted to it, but its currently blocked. I put it on Patreon in the meantime.
When its unblocked i will post it on youtube
That's my story and I'm sticking to it! Jim died way too young and all of his songs are worth a listen! I loved your reaction to this song that I've loved for a long time. I love all of his songs though! You can't go wrong with a Jim Croce song!
Such a great song! Definitely will be exploring some more of his music. Thanks for watching!
@@SaeedReacts. Well, you do let me into your world and I want to thank you for that again. I love watching your reactions!
Thank you for the heart, it is truly appreciated!
Definitely Time in a Bottle. Also Operator and I Got A Name are fantastic.
I reacted to Operator.
Time in a Bottle coming soon.
Thanks for that !
" Time in a bottle " is a little more profound ? By Jim croce Yea.
Heard of " The Nitty Gritty Dirt Band " ?
"Mr. Bojangles"
I have heard of it, but not familiar with the music. Hope to check it out
Also on Jim Croce Live, the final tour released in 89 there are some more Roller Derby Queen dialouge, Trucker dialouge, Careful Man dialouge, and one proabably not to RUclips friendly, Ball of Kerrymuir dialouge. They all have the song right aftet like this video
Best campfire storytelling in song.
100%
Jim was so talented, and so versatile! Please react to "Operator" for his more complex, tender style. Yes, he died at age 26, I believe, leaving a wife and baby boy.
A reaction to Operator is scheduled for in about 3 hours. 😃
Just watching. Loved Jim Croce when I was in school. Also love the Dresden Files. My cat is named Dresden.
Amazing artist!
Love Dresden! That is awesome!
Rapid Roy, and Roller Derby Queen. Excellent stor telling, Roller Derby Queen is my fave. I Got A Name, Operator, Time in a Bottle were his hits and great but some nice album cuts too, Salon and Saloon, Lover's Cross...😊
That's very interesting about where he got that song from. I didn't even know Jim Croce was in the military during the time of the Vietnam war.
Was great hearing that story!
Great Jim Croce: He left us many beautiful songs , titles already mentioned below. Definitely you'll enjoy his writing and music!
Thank you for this one!
I will definitely explore more of his music soon. This was so good!
Thanks so much for watching, Orly!
I am a Dresden Files fan too. I love finding others with similar tastes.
I love those books! Its definitely great to connect with people with similar interests. No people i know in my environment really reads fantasy or scifi.
Looking forward to the next book. Hope we get some news about that soon 😄
Johnny Horton is another classic story teller/singer/song writer that you may want to check out. Many of his songs were based on real historical events. Among his most well known are, "Battle of New Orleans", and "Sink the Bismarck". Most of his stuff is from the 1950's.
Thanks for the recommendation!
I’ll have to say I love you in a song is my ultimate favorite song by Jim. When my mom passed away my dad said this song he wanted to play at her funeral
Must check that one out at some point.
🤠 ... you can't go wrong with Jim Croce. He is a very skilled guitar player and an excellent songwriter. Love this Saeed.
Such a great song. Definitely will explore more.
For more songs with interesting characters, "You don't mess around with Jim" "Rapid Roy (that stock car boy)" "Roller Derby Queen" "Workin' at the Car Wash Blues" would be a great start. Then there are his ballads that will give you all the feelz. Enjoy your journey.
Thanks for those recommendations!
You're English is remarkably good. What is your native language? Yeah....I grew up listening to this music, so I love everything by Jim Croce!
Thanks! Dutch is my native language. I live in Belgium, but the Dutch/Flemish speaking part.
This song is amazing! Really enjoy his storytelling.
Dresden Files, excellent books, great TV series. Unfortunately only 1 season.
We named our black cat Dresden.
Croce is awesome, we used to listen to his greatest hits album over and over.
Thats awesome!
Hope we get some news about the next book.
And who knows maybe one day a reboot of the show.
Looking forward to more of Jim Croce.
I bet the things that go on in that fictional world of Chicago, aren't so fictional. I'm from Chicago. Everything goes on in Chicago. LOL I didn't think I'd remember the lyrics of this song, but every one of them came back to me. Thanks for the ride back.......
In those books i mentioned it is more about wizards and creatures, but some of the series i mentioned are definitely more grounded in reality.
Its amazing how lyrics of a song is somewhere stored in in your mind and immediately Come back when hearing it.
Jim Croce was one my country music loving parents played in the 70's. He has a ton of songs that are good stories or emotional ones. I love those but his ones with comedy... Priceless!
I see you've been rifling through my old record collection again. 🙂 "Jim Croce's Greatest Hits" should be in everyone's collecrion. "Time in a Bottle" was one of his biggest and best hits. "Operator" was always my personal favorite. And "I'll Have to Say I Love You In a Song". And "Lover's Cross". LOL
You have a great collection. This is a great song. Thanks for watching and the recommendations!
I knew you'd enjoy Jim and he has more songs to explore as aothers have already commentated on.
Will explore more!
Not connected to the opening he has another song called operator.
Yes, Operator is great. And Time in a bottle
I will check that one out.
Maury Muehleisen always accompanied Jim on guitar. Sadly he died in the same plane crash that took Jim. RIP
Welcome to the Jim Croce vault! Anyone can recommend his worthy hits. But if you really want to dive into his brilliance as a self reflective legendary singer-songwriter, dive deeper with 1."The Hard Way Everytime" 2."Which Way Are You Going?" and 3."Walking Back To Georgia" which will leave you in awe of what might have been...
Thanks so much for sharing these.
Thanks so much for reacting to Jim Croce! He was a wonderful ballad/folk singer/songwriter! I would love to see you react to Operator or Time in a Bottle. Thanks!
Will check those out. Thanks for watching.
Side 4 of The Faces Ive Been which came out after his death consistes of "The Raps,", the story telling intos to songs like Trucks and Ups about Speedball Trucker.
I love your reaction! Please do more of his songs. He has some awesome songs. A lot of people have named them, operator is a really good one, time in a bottle also. Hope you have a great night or is it daytime there? I’m not sure where you are, but it’s nighttime here. Sending you love and light.
Thanks so much! Will check those out.
I am in Belgium, so thats CET Tiime. It was evening when this video was posted.
Have a wonderful day.
He was a great performer, tragic that he died just as he was becoming famous! By the way that Sopranos joke was funny, I got it right away! Thanks for the reactions!
I have only heard a few songs, but they are all Incredible. And very tragic story.
The Sopranos, one of the best series ever. R.i.p. James Gandolfini. Another great artist gone to soon
😊❤ Hi Saeed! 😅 I love your reaction! Jim Croche was a family favorite for me growing up. 😅 I really like how you dissect the lyrics! My dad was from Chicago. He told so many stories of life in Chicago during the depression era. I was able to go there for one day when I was in the Air Force. Definitely not enough time to explore this historic city! I haven't read the books but I binge watch The Dresden Files on TV every couple of months!! Love that show! And last but not least ... English IS my first language and I screw my words up too!! LOL 😂 I always blame it on the fact that my brain works way faster than my mouth!! LOL 😂 So no worries, you do just fine!! 😊❤❤
My mouth cant keep up with my brain as well 😅.
Really enjoyed this song a lot. I just posted a reaction to his song Operator.
Dresden Files is amazing!
Check out "I'll Have to Say I Love You in a Song". One of my fav Croce songs
operator is another good
dont mess around with jim
Will add those to my list. Thanks!
I LOVE Dresden!!! 🥰
Me too! Hoping to get some news about the next book soon 🙏🏽🙏🏽🙏🏽
There are a whole lot of things going on in Chicago in the real world too. Still it’s a crazy fun place to visit. So much to do, great restaurants, sports, and wonderful museums. Like any other major city in the US, you just have to know where to avoid.
Definitely a city thats been on my bucket list for years.
Like you said every major city has issues and parts one better avoids.
*Time In A Bottle*
*Photographs And Memories*
*Operator*
*I Got A Name*
*You Don’t Mess Around With Jim*
*I’ll Have To Say I Love You In A Song*
*Rapid Roy*
*Roller Derby Queen*
*New York’s Not My Home*
*One Less Set Of Footsteps*
*Workin’ At The Car Wash Blues*
just to name a few…..I might have been a fan…..
gone way too soon, the good ones always are
loved his storytelling style as well
Guaranteed to love anything you pick next!
Great reaction, thank you!
Thanks for sharing these!
Jim had a wife and a little boy.
Heartbreaking 😞
Jim, and Maury Muehleisen, were great artists who left a great legacy. Their music still touches our hearts. We will not forget them.
If you love story songs, you absolutely have to listen to Taxi by Harry Chapin. It's one of the best. Harry Chapin is one of the best story telling singers ever
That one is on my to do list. I recorded a reaction to his song Cats in the Cradle, but its not up yet.
I always think of Shameless too when I hear south side of Chicago.
Such a great show!
I love those books about Harry Dresden and the others from Mister Butcher.😄😄😄😄💯
Awesome writer as well! Just started re-reading them. Hope we get some news of the next book soon 😄
If you like Chicago based songs do The night Chicago died by Paper Lace.Try Jim's song Operator too.
Will add those to my list. Thanks for the recommendations!
💔 we lost him way too early....
A song with a similar feel is "Joy to the World (Jeremiah Was a Bullfrog)" by Three Dog Night.
Thanks for the recommendation!
I loved this song as a little kid
Such a great song!
A number of his hit songs weren't released until after his death.
Oh, thanks for letting me know about that! So sad to see a persons life cut short. So many hopes and dreams lost.
Okay Saeed...now you are aging me...the album this song came off off was released in 1973...it was the very 1rst album I ever bought, because of this song...great artist whose potential was cut short because of a plane crash...thanks though for the memory
You never forget that first album and the feeling it gave you. Thanks for sharing that with me ❤️
I love to watch reactors, my suggestion is don't pause so many times, I don't mind one short one in the middle and comments at the end, great reaction to a phenomenal song writer
I scaled down pausing quite a bit since i started this channel. So i am getting a bit better at it, but if i get so many thoughts at once i need to get them out or i will forget.
Especially with songs that have such dense and incredible writing. So many great lines to dive into
Thanks so much for watching!
try Croce's story sog: Don't mess around with Jim. For soft romantic songs: Time in a Bottle
Time in a Bottle reaction is recorded, but still need to upload it.
Great song and reaction
You are awesome 😎
Thanks! 😃❤️
i think that guitar player with him also died in the plane crash with him when he died at 30
Listen to Paper Lace they sing about AL Capone in Chicago 😊
People who use English as their first language, screw up the language, so no apologies needed. Like others here, this is the first time I heard this live version. The studio version is much more polished if you want to hear what most of us listened to.
Thanks for saying that 🙏🏽❤️
Definitely will have a listen to the studio version. This is a song i will be listening to a few more times. Its so well written.
You need to listen to Time in a Bottle or Operator.
Will do!
Please react to Jim Croce "Working at the Carwash Blues"
Thanks for the recommendation!
Before you even mentioned Harry Dresden, I was about to comment that maybe you would run into him if you went to Chicago (yes, I am aware he is fictional). I've actually never heard the live version of this song. I love Jim Croce. Edited to add: Am I the only one who wants to know what happens after the end of story songs?
In my head Harry Dresden and the Nevernever are very real 😅
Sometimes i wonder as well how characters continue after the story ends.
Operator and Time in a bottle.
Thanks for the recommendations!
If you want a storytelling song, check out "Big Bad John" by Jimmy Dean (I think). Good story, too
Thanks for the recommendation!
Some other story songs can be found under the band Lynard Skynard- gimme three streps. Crodidile Rock by Elton John.
Thanks for the recommendation!
I suggest Operator from Jim Croce.
Thanks for the recommendation!
check out randy newman short people :)
Thanks for the recommendation!
What's your 1st language? Your English is great. I like that you're a reader too. I'll have to try that book series.
Flemish which is basically Dutch, but with a different accent. Bit like UK/US English.
Been an avid reading all my life. Love stories in all formats really.
Dresden Files is great if you love Urban Fantasy.
🌕 .. try "I've Got A Name"
