Jim Croce wrote the song in 1970, after he heard he was going to be a father. So beautiful are these words. His son has followed the footsteps of his father, as singer-songwriter.
The guy in the back is Maury Muehleisen. He played lead guitar for Jim and sang harmony. He died in the plane crash with Jim. He deserves as much credit as Jim.
Jim Croce was my husband's favorite, and he introduced me to his music. We married in 1974, right when this song was super popular. It always felt like "our song" because the lyrics were so true for us. We were not teenagers, we were 23 years old then and already could see the truth to how quickly time passes and how a person can never fit everything into a lifetime, so must choose wisely. We just celebrated our 50-year anniversary, and it all rings true even more the older we get. Thank-you for reacting to this. Gail L.
Yet another fantastic review. Whenever Jim Croce comes to mind, I always remember Maurice T. Muehleisen, the other guitarist on Jim Croce’s songs. They harmonised so well. Muehleisen lost his life in that disastrous plane crash, too. RIP both of them.
This song came out just before my husband and I met. He passed 10 years ago but this song reminds me of our 40 years together and it brings me great great comfort. Such special lyrics!
The fact that anyone could love another person enough to write the most beautiful lyrics I have ever heard never ceases to make me cry. Couple with that with Jim dying far too soon, and all of his amazing music that never made it into the world, I am a full-on wreck every time I hear this song.
A middle schooler at the time he died, I clearly remember my father's making a comment on Jim's death, he said. "What a shame, nice young guy who wrote and sang music you could here." Remember, my father, born in the early 1930s, had no use for music of my generation
One of the most beautiful heartfelt songs ever written. Lover, child, lost parent - these lyrics are whatever are important to you when you hear them. Simply a god tier song.
He said so much in under 3 minutes, incredible. One of the best songs ever written. It still has an impact on my perspective of life and how I interact with my family and friends and how blessed I am. Truly a classic and will live on having an impact on anyone who hears this song.
Finger Picking is my favorite style of guitar playing. I remember when this song came out I was 17 still brings tears. Jim was a great singer songwriter.
This was my baby sister's favorite. I was her caregiver and friend. She couldn't fight off Covid together with MS, and I lost her in 2020. This song will always make me think of her.
I just gave a speech at my 26 year old son’s wedding and my topic was how we can’t hold onto times in our lives and how elusive it is. I said how throughout my son’s life I’ve wanted so badly to capture and stop time with him during special precious moments and not let go. I told him how the urge to hold on his wedding day is as strong as ever, but the urge to let go is more intense because I don’t want to miss all of the future moments I get to witness as he grows into a man and maybe father. I said “time is such an interesting human phenomenon”
Such a sensitive and wonderful reaction to this sacred song. 💫⭐️🌟✨. I knew I could trust your emotional vulnerability articulated so well by your thoughtful insights to have the respect and appreciation to contribute to its legacy. Thank you so much for this today🌹
When I was a boy 50 years ago, i lived life in the now, without a care, I didn’t realize how quickly time would pass. Now I chide myself that I didn’t savor innocence and the splendor of youth. But what child does, really?
Jim Croce is one of the most talented singer songwriters in my opinion. So sad what happened...he was taken way too early. I first started watching your reactions when you did your first PTX reaction. I love when I get a notification that you've done another reaction. Keep up the insightful and awesome reactions!
😊❤ Hi Saeed! 😅 The more I listen to your comments the more obvious it is that you are a writer! (And an Empath in case you don't know!) I think what's missing (to me) from a good portion of more current music is the POETRY! We had so many artists/groups that wrote amazing lyrics to tell us a good story!! 🤩😃 Great song, great song writer! 😅 Luv ya Saeed! 😊❤❤
So much amazing storytelling in music comes from this era. And a lot of it stood the test of time. They were great observers of human behaviour and were very skilled in putting this on the page and then into their music. Amazing! Thanks so much for watching! Have a great day.
This is how I feel when I look at photos of myself. It;s as if the girl in the photo is someone else. And I wonder, how did she make it through life. The words come back to me as the tune smoothly rolls by. I remember them well.
Saeed, you have discovered a true gem, Jim Croce, taken from us way too early. He has many more songs like Time in a Bottle and many others that showcase his storytelling abilities. I highly recommend his biggest hit, " I Got a Name" and see another side of Jim.
In 1973 there was a made-for-tv movie called "She Lives" and it featured this song Time in a Bottle.. it became my sister and her fiance's song and when he proposed he gave her a guitar with a rose tape to the case and the sheet music to the song.. she still has it and the peace symbol and Dove guitar strap.
🎼🌬️ . Well , Saeed .. there was no doubt that you would be floored by this Jim Croce masterpiece. I have been for decades ... I never tire of this song, or his guitar playing. All of it is mesmerizing. Jim Croce is one of the greatest artists of all time. 🌬️🌬️🌬️🌬️🌬️🌬️ Please do more of his songs.
The song was used for a TV movie starring Desi Arnez Jr in 1973, about a college girl with cancer and Desi, her boyfriend, desperately trying to find a doctor to treat and save her. it was called She Lives. The the song was released as a single after Jim's Death. i sang this with my guitar to my parents and younger brother around the campfire while on vacation 50 years ago this month. Thank God I did, they are all gone now and I am the only left of the original family...sometimes that sucks...
I saw his son AJ a few months ago in Ct. Amazing piano player and singer. He ended with this song because it was written by Jim for him before he was born. Not a dry eye in the place.
Great and emotional reaction, Saeed! For me it's the song that most reflects the soul of Jim Croce. And it is also the most played song in that sad 1973 day (at least in the only radio station where I lived for years in an African country...)
I had this song sung at my wedding on September 1, 1973. He died about a week after I returned from my honeymoon. I was heartbroken about his death, more than any other celebrity I can remember. Only the death of Robin Williams hit me as hard (because I was in labor during the first episode of Mork and Mindy!) He has so many wonderful songs.
I was 10 years old when Jim Croce died. We had driven to Louisana on a family trip from Massachusetts and had just left prior to that plane crash. As a family, we loved his music. So very sad. I love when people hear these songs for the first time and are so moved. You do a great job with these reactions. Glad I found you here. Some day, check out Photographs and Memories by Jim. You will like it too.
Jim Croce's music is timeless. Every song tells a story, and every story draws you in and touches your soul, even bad bad Leroy Brown gets you thinking, lol..on another note, this is a reaction channel. You listen to the lyrics and you reflect. That's what it's all about, and I, for one, enjoy listening to you reflect on these beautiful songs.Thank you for having such an awesome Chanel. Hugs to you and your family ❤😊
I can only imagine what else Jim would have produced had that plane crash not taken him oversoon. I mean, we're all blessed by what he was able to gift us with in the time he did have. But this man was an absolute treasure.
Jim was a genius with his lyrics such a beautiful wordsmith. I agree that the music sounds like a music box (such a creative touch), good insight. His box of unfulfilled wishes and dreams is empty because all his wishes and dreams came true! No need to apologize for the pauses that why we're here.
I saw his son A.J. in concert a few years ago. He played this song with a slide show of family pictures on screen. Oh man, the emotions. A.J. has some great music of his own as well, and is touring again.
I got excited reading all the comments from your viewers about what this song means to them or to their parents, family,..., and knowing the story behind this beautiful song. I like this song and, even though I don't have those memories, it doesn't matter because your viewers made me feel this song in a different way through their experiences. Thanks to all of them for sharing them. I'm glad to belong to your community Saeed. Take care 😊
Have just discovered your channel, and what a pleasure it is to find someone who not only listens to the lyrics, but has the understanding to comment intelligently on the writing. And Thank You for staying away from the animation. So many videos, not just animations, are some would-be auteur director’s strange take on the song that distract from the music and the sense of the song.
Thanks for being here and the kind words. Some viewers recommended to stay away from the animation, especially on first listen. With Operator i did do that unfortunately, but also an amazing song.
The Muppets did this one beautifully and it was the background music for a "fight" scene with Quicksilver in one of the X-Men movies that is just awesome.
I remember loving this song when I was young simply because it is so beautiful. Now, after having so much loss in my life these last couple of years, this song brings me to tears. Such powerful lyrics along with a beautiful melody. It is simply powerful and breathtaking.
Beautiful reaction, my friend - as always. Your pauses for examination, analysis, along with your personal perspective of the lyrics, and message of a song is what makes you one of the best reactors out there. Can't imagine someone bothered by your pauses!! One only needs to go to YT, pick a song and press play for no pauses, right? 🤙
Thanks so much for the encouraging words! Some people seem not to like pauses, based on some comments on some other video's. Very grateful that most people dont mind. Thanks again! Have a great day.
I want this song to be played for my family at my memorial. Indian reservation is a song you might like. Also, for something different check out Brule at Mount Rushmore. They blend traditional native American dress, dance and rock. The park ranger introducing them is of Native American descent and wears his hair in traditional brades. Also Savage Daughter sung by Anahata. Very powerful and unique. I love watching with you!
All of Jim's music evokes a heartfelt response or a full blown belly laugh. It takes real talent and poetry to achieve those reactions *EVERY* time. Few song writers possess the skill to cause deep reflection with a single line of music like you just experienced. Jim does it often, and then sets it all to music. Perfectly. Every time. I can't wait for you to discover more of this gifted artist and his music. Great reaction. More please.
If you’re looking for another emotion track. Dave Matthew’s and Tim Reynolds - Bartender Live radio studio music hall. Dave wanting more time, so touching and vocally so strong.
His music always hits me hard. This one very much so because I'm midway-ish through my life and I've chosen that special, wish-answering someone to go through time with. Beautlful lyrics and the arrangement and instrumentation are so good!
I saw his son, AJ, at a performance near me. He told about how his mother remarried after his father's death. But the stepfather was very abusive and actually caused AJ to become legally blind. It was a very sad story to hear. AJ lost so much and tragically also lost his wife to cancer.
Croce was a very talented , and interesting singer / songwriter ......you listen to the lyrics of this song .....and realize it was released the same year Croce died in the plane crash .........also ., Croce wrote a song " I Got a Name " ........and Croce is NOT his given name .
Few songs are at this level. His other song that stands out is 'I had to say I love you in a song.' Can't say his 'Bad bad Leroy Brown' was my thing, but it was liked by a lot of folks, so paid the bills, I s'pose.
The older I become the more Time in a Bottle I wish I had.
Jim Croce wrote the song in 1970, after he heard he was going to be a father. So beautiful are these words. His son has followed the footsteps of his father, as singer-songwriter.

I love your comments. Never apologize
Thanks so much!
This is one of the most beautiful songs ever written. I heard it was actually written for his newborn baby.
For years after my wife passed away from cancer I couldn’t listen to this song without crying.
My husband died of leukemia at age 27 and there are a few songs still, decades later. One of them is "Yesterday."
So sorry for your loss
@@SaeedReacts. thank you!
I still can't.
For me, it was Lee Ann Rimes song " How Can I Live Without You." Was over 10 years before I could listen to that one.

That music box effect is so haunting and beautiful, it perfectly frames the lyric.

Few songs are at this level. His other song that stands out is 'I had to say I love you in a song.' Can't say his 'Bad bad Leroy Brown' was my thing, but it was liked by a lot of folks, so paid the bills, I s'pose.
This song is truly one of the best i have ever heard.
Was waitin for this. Haven’t listened to it in years but still know every word and note. Thank you. 🎶❤️
Beautiful song! Thanks so much for watching. Have a great day!
Try some John Denver. Rocky Mountain High, Sunshine on my Shoulders, Annie's Song. Country Roads. He was another singer/song writer taken too soon.
Definitely want to get to his music as well.
