  • One of the trickiest airports in Norway due to the proximity to steep mountains and wind conditions. Notice the dark blue areas on the sea near final on both runway ends due to downdraft from the mountains. Imagine flying the same route in a snow blizz in the dark and with a tail wind.

    Superior Piloting Skills, this guy is good! Enjoy watching excellent landings on short runways & prop reversal just before wheels touch down...VERY impressive !!!

    After watching a view of these Dash 8 videos and wondering why the pilot
    monitoring has to guard the power levers on short final, I think I've
    figured out why. It's because of the design of the reverse thrust
    activation. Rather than a distinct lever like on a 747 for example, the
    pilot on a Dash 8 simply pulls the power lever back past idle. The pilot
    monitoring has to guard them on approach so that the pilot flying
    doesn't accidentally engage the reverse thrust while the plane is still
    airborne. Am I right? Can anyone confirm?

      turbofan450 To engage disc (beta) or reverse on the dash 8s you have to pull up on a toggle right under the power lever handles. You slide your fingers forward and under to grab them. You can sort of see the metal tabs in the last frame of this video.
      As for guarding them, it may be in case a go around is initiated. The pilot flying would initially advance the power levers and then the pilot monitoring would set a specific power setting (100% torque for example).

    Hi Kenneth,
    I presume that at this airport there are no ILS approaches, so, what kind off antennas are these, near 08 Threshold?

    • @lolheimert
      @lolheimert 2 года назад +1

      Airport is IFR approved, it has a localizer near 08 threshold (It is facing almost perpendicular to the runway), and an NDB on the opposite side. It even has PLASI lights. It's a high tech airport.

      The bird is called LN-WIF and it's a Bombardier Dash8-100. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bombardier_Dash_8
