It's made to move around a little before you turn it on. There's a lot of torque in that machine and by moving around slightly, it protects the machine. Don't worry, your Vitamix isn't defective. My Vitamix is going on 23 years and I use it EVERYDAY.

I purchased one very recently but the container seems slightly too small. It moves around a bit. Other than that, I love it!
