Irregardless of everything, this man can play a guitar, be he stoned or drunk, the man has overcome his deamons and survived, and man he is still old "Slowhand", if only I could have 1/3 of his talent...may he bring us 50 more great songs.....he is the best.
Eric Clapton changed the way guitar was played with his undeniable style and incredible sound.. His sound and phrasing has been copied and unparalelled till this very day! Eric was telling a story to us when he played. Thank you for this post! ;0)
Most guitarists, that so many consider great, are generally just showing us the amazing things they can do on the guitar. Clapton speaks to us through his. Another level entirely. He plays what he feels in the moment, according to bandmates, recording engineers, and himself. You'll never find two performances of one of his songs the same.
I'm living in September 2020, and you posted this 12 years ago... and I'd forgotten about Bell Bottom Blues... and White Room! I've got to hear them now...
@JASONCALEDONIA "Let It Rain" is not a Cream song, it's from Clapton's first solo album titled "Eric Clapton that was released in 1970. Jim Gordon is the drummer on that album, Gordon was also the drummer on the Layla album.
Thank You Muddyjenkins for taking the time to upload all these wonderful old concerts-I've always been a huge Clapton fan & now that I see him playing with the great Nathan East & Greg Phillinganes makes it even more special--They are so in sync (no pun intended) and smooth--Absolutely fabulous--plus 5 ---thanks again
Hell yeah...In this extreme heat and drought conditions...PLEASE LORD...'LET IT RAIN! I pray for all the people who have lost their homes in the wildfires out west...LET IT RAIN DOWN ON THEM!
As usual the experts keep on debating who is number one and the music is left unheard and unfelt. Shut up for once, stop typing and enjoy the music, from whoever is playing at the moment. Here is to all guitarists, music and that great instrument that is the guitar.
I urge everyone to listen to Pat Martino in the seventies, especially joints like The Great Stream. Awesome techique, speed, voicing. Lenny Breaux-like knowledge of the fretboad, inverted voicing of chords and how to craft scale intervals of profound beauty and color, encouraging intospection, all at often blazing speed!
OMG. You mean someone thought Eric Clapton had anything to do with his son's accident! Connor was living with his Mum. Connor was running in the apartment and ran into a window and fell out. What an awful tragedy to lose one's own child. Tears In Heaven was written about his precious son.
😢il primato chitarristico di Eric Clapton risiede nella sua musicalità quando fa gli assoli lì è il più musicale tra i chitarristi è lì che Eric Clapton è il miglior chitarrista per la sua musicalità quando fa gli assoli
As a professional freelance musician who's checked out many guitarists across different genres - from Allan Holdsworth to Tomatito; Phelps 'Catfish' Collins, Bill Frisell to Cornell Dupree - I get the feeling that many who proclaim Clapton as God haven't really strayed too far from their musical comfort zone. Well, it's a just a thought. Point being that if you listened to some of the world's great guitarists then maybe Clapton would take his place somewhere in the middle of the hierarchy...
SkeletalGuitar--I had no idea either that Phil Collins played drums with Clapton until seeing some of these videos--I always just associated him with Genesis-It amazing what I'm learning on here-L
The studio version had me thinking it was George Harrison singing this when I heard it during a Cubs game on WGN Sunday because he sounds so young when singing it. Shows how much I know about Clapton.
wow I just notice that in the first 0:01 sec of the video that Mr. Clapton sighs, like saying to me," Guys, It's just a show ... we gonna keep this crowd happy til it's over.." just an observation. It reminds me, because I have a few friends in the public eye, that we see a concert, but to the performer it can be a job. You wonder how much can a person possibly love to play a guitar. He does it so well.
Slowhand is a survivor, he has gotten through many crappy things. But worse than booze, or heroin, or coke was the fact that Phil Collins became his drummer and producer in the eighties. Probably one of the biggest tragedies in his carreer. Fortunately, nowadays he´s sober and, most importantly, Collins-free.
@HenryFeefan Im sorry man but u seem to be missing something. Todays Music is as good as it was In the past. Its just that the mainstream has moved away from the style it liked Back then. That doesent mean the new musics crap, its just different. And i get it if u prefer this over the new stuff. Believe me, im 19 and i love this so much ive seen clapton and winwood in concert. Overall this just means for this type of music you have to look a little harder. Open your mind to the new.
eric Clapton, mark knopler, george Harrison, jimi, stevie ray, guitar, song writting gods ya cant pick just one,,, im just turned 61 and this stuff never, never gets old
Seems worth adding garcia to your list!!!! He did after all play more live shows and sold more tickets than all others!!! He must have bin doing something right as it seems unlikely this is a coincidence!!!
There was a video of this song on RUclips that included Badge as the song that this leads into. The video apparently has been taken down. It’s too bad because the two songs together are excellent.
Ah, that famed ear bending, back kinking, finger fluttering solo at the end which makes such good song into a trully great song.....and alas either Eric doesn't do it live or I just can't find it on any of the video versions on RUclips. Damn.
i just turned sixteen, and my friends are all like heavy metal and techno.. if you can even call that misuc.. when i say like Clapton, Gimour or even BB king, they're looking at me as an alien.. one of my faves' gotta be "hideaway" performed with the bluesbreakers! or, "crossroads" performed by cream.
I watch this video Way too Much. They are all in the same 'Groove' and very, very strong...Phil's killing the drum kit though..Ouch! ERIC is fanatical on the guitar. Great Book;his biography...:)
@JohnBT333 srv was 3 in 1986? false. he might have been 3 when clapton first recorded this in 1970. but clapton was only in the biz since 1963 when he was 17 when he first joined the yardbirds.
It's just a light chorus. He loved that shit in the 80's. Now he plays with virtually none, except on a few songs like Badge, or Holy Mother. But I who needs effects when you have a Leslie, I guess. lol I miss his Wah. :( He really knew how to rip it up on one of those.
@cooltooth112 Yea Phillinganes was and still is a very busy guy, I think he music directed part or the whole this years Grammy's right? Thought I heard something like that. I think he's just best in the background, it was slightly difficult to watch him trying to be cool and sexy with MJ in the "Come Together" vid/cover.
@cooltooth112 yeah i didnt really think so i was just making a point. someone said srv was 3 in when this was and this was in 1986. sorry i didnt google it like u but i could kinda see him being born in 1967 cuz he didnt really get famous till early 1980s.
This song is not from this planet, this song is simply majestic and from a different universe!!!!!! Well done Eric!!!!!!
Irregardless of everything, this man can play a guitar, be he stoned or drunk, the man has overcome his deamons and survived, and man he is still old "Slowhand", if only I could have 1/3 of his talent...may he bring us 50 more great songs.....he is the best.
phil collins killin it on drums
Probably my favorite Clapton song, but one of the lesser known ones, classic Clapton stuff here though.
This is a searing performance by a rock legend of one of his greatest songs ever. And the drummer ain't bad, either!
There was a time when Eric's carrer was at a very low point. It was Phil Collins that got behind him and pushed him back to the top!!!
eric clapton,, one of the best ever
In the words of the beloved George Harrison I quote: "This man truly does have a rock and roll heart."
My ALL TIME FAVORITE Eric Clapton song...
🍺😎👍
May God Look Down On Mr . Collins What A Remarkable Man ! 👋
Great tune! One of my favorites by Clapton. But honestly though, how can you not sound good with an a-list band like that?!
My favorite version of this song by him.
Eric Clapton - Let It Rain - 1986
Fantastic !
First time seeing love Phil and Eric together. Great version!

Steve Knight ... show us what you got.
It would be good if this exact same line-up would play together today!
Poor Phil can’t play much anymore. He got screwed up from Med mal.
Such talent. Each individual contribution are world class.
Oh. My. Goodness
Let it rain ☔
Liquid hugs for ALL
this takes my breath away. so tight, so in step.
Really one of his greatest hits
i hear ya... He's one of my favorite artists. Bell Bottom Blues is a great song to listen to, as well as White Room
I'm living in September 2020, and you posted this 12 years ago... and I'd forgotten about Bell Bottom Blues... and White Room! I've got to hear them now...
This version of Let It Rain keeps on growing... easily the best work from EC in this "feeling"- jackty906 is a schmuck.
it was the 80's man. he's changed his sound a lot over the years.
One of my all time faves, so happy to find the video.
There is plenty of terrific music today. You just have to dig a little for it. If all you hear is that which is popular, you won't find it.
@JASONCALEDONIA "Let It Rain" is not a Cream song, it's from Clapton's first solo album titled "Eric Clapton that was released in 1970. Jim Gordon is the drummer on that album, Gordon was also the drummer on the Layla album.
Not sure that faster pace they settle into is really where Eric shines. But this tune is definitely one of his best.
good work all around, Eric's break is soulful. Phil Collins knows how to drum.
Freaking love this song
ditto...it was his best
Thank You Muddyjenkins for taking the time to upload all these wonderful old concerts-I've always been a huge Clapton fan & now that I see him playing with the great Nathan East & Greg Phillinganes makes it even more special--They are so in sync (no pun intended) and smooth--Absolutely fabulous--plus 5 ---thanks again
fantastic group of musicians. great chemistry.
Hell yeah...In this extreme heat and drought conditions...PLEASE LORD...'LET IT RAIN! I pray for all the people who have lost their homes in the wildfires out west...LET IT RAIN DOWN ON THEM!
listen to the Part at 1:12 sliding in this slower Solo ''goosebumps'' Eric, Nathan,Phil!
+Uwe Reichelt Great chord sequence idea!
As usual the experts keep on debating who is number one and the music is left unheard and unfelt. Shut up for once, stop typing and enjoy the music, from whoever is playing at the moment. Here is to all guitarists, music and that great instrument that is the guitar.
Damn. Some people are so mad at the world that they try to fight it with ignorance. Pity. I love this tune, and I love anything by Eric.
Clapton si god
Been thinking this all day while listening to the drought wash away.
Wow , great version . Bravo!
I urge everyone to listen to Pat Martino in the seventies, especially joints like The Great Stream. Awesome techique, speed, voicing. Greatness
WOW!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I like country, and I like Clapton. Clapton likes country too
...and back to the music.....awesome! thanks so much for posting!
Happy Birthday to the amazing Eric Clapton (March 30)
great video and even greater song thanks for this one
OMG. You mean someone thought Eric Clapton had anything to do with his son's accident! Connor was living with his Mum. Connor was running in the apartment and ran into a window and fell out. What an awful tragedy to lose one's own child. Tears In Heaven was written about his precious son.
I love this song.

Acording to the a list i read hes the fourth greatest guitarist ever even though i think he deserved 3rd maybe 2nd "Clapton is God"
Phil Collins on drums. Great tune but I miss that great solo at the end...
My thoughts exactly.
Love it!!!

Eric on guitar, Phil on drums The only thing missing is Elton on piano
@canadianchewie1 hell yeah! i mean this fusion between one song and another is insane
Damn.
Possibly, they were best friends and Clapton played for them in While My Guitar Gently Weeps
massive spliff on the guitar neck =D
mucho soul-

That keyboardist's movements are hilarious.
WOOT SOLO

Well, he IS the Chuck Norris of the guitar! ;-)
I've started writing it... a litle different point of view but the point is there
I wish Clapton had made a promo video for this one back in 1970. One of my faves. I can hear a George Harrison influence. Did he help write it?
damn that set is big hahaha
@cooltooth112 Yea Phillinganes was and still is a very busy guy, I think he music directed part or the whole this years Grammy's right? Thought I heard something like that. I think he's just best in the background, it was slightly difficult to watch him trying to be cool and sexy with MJ in the "Come Together" vid/cover.
Like Miles Davis on trumpet -- EC can do more with one note that most guitarists need pages to deliver.
Phil Collins played with Clapton at Live Aid (as well as Led Zeppelin)
@lclaughton The drumming is great, as is the rest of the musicianship.
Did Phillingane do a Prince like little 'wooop!' thing there at 4:16 ?
Description is incorrect. It would appear that this was at Old Grey Whistle Test
@cooltooth112 yeah i didnt really think so i was just making a point. someone said srv was 3 in when this was and this was in 1986. sorry i didnt google it like u but i could kinda see him being born in 1967 cuz he didnt really get famous till early 1980s.
This was recorded at Montreux.
