  • As a long time user of GoPro cameras (10 years) I have reached the limit of my patience. I am switching to the Insta360 Ace Pro. But it's not for the reasons you might think!
In this video we will have a look at my experience as a moto vlogger and how it's the small details that makes the most frustration and kills the flow when riding motorcycles.
Specially in trips when you are a group of riders and you don't want to ruin the experience of the actual trip.
This video is NOT sponsored in any way.
I tell you what I think, and I know someone who will tell me what HE thinks after this video :)

Good video - I use the DJI Osmo 4 and have never had those jitters Thomas showed. I believe that's the setup for Runa is as well; her videos look solid. Insta360's are making some good products as well. That flip screen is pretty innovative. I also agree that there are too many issues with GoPro. I look forward to the camera battles to come with the big Norwegian.

The DJI Action 4 does not need a firmware update to fix the low light stabilization, you just how to know how to set it up for low light. If you want a turn it on and forget it camera the Insta360 is great, however IF you want better quality then the action 4 is the way to go IMO. I own all three GP, DJI, and Insta, so I am not really biased. They each have their own use cases.

I wish they would offer an option on the GoPro, or any other camera for that matter, to be able to mirror flip the front display so that it shows up right way around when you check it in the mirror. Seems such an easy thing to do in the software but no one does it for some stupid reason.

For the problem with stopping the recording. You can voice command or gestures to command the Insta360 Ace Pro to stop recording (For normal recording with complicated scenes like multiple people, gestures could accidently recognize others as the command to stop, but I highly doubt such to be the problem to Motorcycle riding).

    • @NomadSweden

Cheap at the moment, long battery life, I don't need low light, easy to record your voice. Will try it out soon. Got this DJI pro tip from The Patched Bandit. I dumped GoPro a couple of years ago for the same reason: A good but buggy and unrealiable system. Moving to the DJI Action 2, 3 and now 4 has been a completely different experience. Reliable cameras with an excellent user interface. Paired with the DJI Mic and now Mic 2, the complete system is a joy to work with. I tried the Ista360 and dumped it due to the crappy image quality and workflow. The low light performance of your new AcePro leaves me a little envious, but for optimal image quality in low light, I will always rely on one of my amazing (but not very pocket packable) full frame Sonys - the A7 or FX. As always - cudos to you for your brilliant story telling. The best in the business, what ever gear you apply to the task. See you on the trail, Robert.🌲🍻🔥

The problem with youtube is that it is primarily a marketing/influencer channel. So everything had be be measured in that picture, and that is an individual responsibility. More and more I recognise that both women and men often get unlimited access to a motorcycle, and are paid to whiz around aimlessly and without meaning, but anyway then we get to take beautiful nature with us, and that's how it is. By the way, have gone back to Gopro, because of the excellent image quality. Small hazzels I can live with.

But after thinking a while over it i came to another workaround solution. I mounted that bracket coming from the helmet to the side of the mediamod where it has its cold shoe for flashlight or something. This works quite fine, no screw to undrive, just open the mod, thake the camera out, change battery, back in and everythings fine. Way easier but still, if they are continuing like this it will have been my last Gopro.

The one thing no one seems to mention about the GoPro is the focus issues as observed from a viewers prospective. If I watch on any thing larger the a phone The GoPro footage is continuously out of focus. The GoPro videos footage constantly hunts for a object to focus on. I did not see these issues with the GoPro 3-4-or 5's but every GoPro since has that issue. The image is so annoying I have unsubscribed from many of the You Tube channels I used to watch regularly. I also do not watch the Insta 360 footage, it is very annoying having to view curved video footage.

Very interesting video, thanks for sharing 🤩! New subscriber here ✊. I come from flying fpv quads with GoPro cams, first the Hero 8 and now Hero 11 due to the better chip. The only thing I learned so far was : use original batteries - they are expensive but run much longer and more reliable. I stabilize with Gyroflow - this works excellent. I just made my first recordings with the GoPros on my bikes and I‘ll keep your recommendations in my mind - maybe I‘ll follow you when my first bike season with action cams is over. For me it’s also a question how many systems I have to manage. I fly fpv with analog and digital gear and use action cams like GoPro - DJI Action 2 (less weight) and Insta 360 One X2 … 😮‍💨😵‍💫. Always new stuff in these demanding (and addictive) hobbies (riding bikes and flying quads) 😂😉

The dowsides are not the best in low light, and the stabilisation is only good enough. But i like it.

I use a power bank with my GoPro and media mod and find that method very simple, put the PB in the top of my daypack, very easy to connect/disconnect, and that way you never get halfway thru an awesome clip and the battery dies and you lose the clip. Also when I'm racing I don't put the mic in my helmet just use the rear mic on the media mod and the audio is generally very good, not too much wind noise. Yes if not using a PB changing the battery is a right pain, but I've found with the newer enduro batteries for the GoPro they last a full day if filming just the good stuff not everything! Ive not really looked at insta cameras. I don't like how that cable sticks out the side, I'd be snapping that off in no time. Will have to take a deeper dive into the specs. Problem is I use 3 go pros when filming and just the one app, which makes it simple. Would be an expensive swap! Thanks for the heads-up 👍

Interesting video. I can totally relate to the GoPro issues- the image quality is great but it keeps dying too often even at moderate low temperatures. Luckily the GoPros are my B and C cameras. My A camera on the helmet is a 2016 Sony FDR X 3000 with optical image stabilization which works well in low light compared to digital stabilization- oh it has a 3.5 mic jack - no adapter needed. Battery swaps take 10 seconds with the helmet on my head. It never crashes and the 4K image still holds up well - even though difficult light conditions are handled better by current generation cameras. Mounted it looks better than chin mounted cameras in my humble opinion and viewing angle is at eye level, showing less of the wind shield as compared to most chin mounted setups. At least GoPro is getting some descent competition now as they have stopped innovating a long time ago and have not botherd to fix the issues which I have had on the Hero 7, 8, 9 and 10. Both the Ace Pro and the Action 4 much better choices in my opinion. Maybe DJI will surprise us with a different format for an action camera - they tried with the Action 2.

Great review and for a change, a practical use that's effective. I have all three brands and my go to camera is the Ace Pro, my secondary camera is the A4 if I want to push 10 bit but tbh, I haven't really had to do much of that since the Ace Pro as it handles color impressively. I've been reading/watching a lot of videos/reviews and you're dead on, ALL cameras take great videos at the end of the day with very little to no difference between them. The 'fanboys' who argue about these marginal video quality differences seem to conveniently neglect the other 10 features this camera offers that are actually useful, innovative in every environment.
