The North Sudanese are essentially the product of racial admixture between indigenous Sudanese and Arabs that arrived relatively recently; the admixture event took place around 650 AD.
The South Sudanese have no admixture and this is why the two groups look so different.
Sudan separated into two Countries because the admixed Afro-Arabs raided the South for slaves and continuously annexed Lebanon size territories from the South.
The North is Muslim while the South is mostly Christian and this was unfortunately yet another source of hostilities; Islamic fundamentalists in the North attempted to impose Shariah on the entire Country and we simply wouldn't have it.
PS: I'm not saying anything bad about Islam as a religion.

The reason you feel connection to egypt is becuase they also went through arabisation and the indeginous cultures and people disappeared same thing happening in north sudan now. In a hundred years they will claim they are indeginous and always lived there. But in reality they are arabs from the middle East.
