Why a 4870? That's barely better than the 4850 currently in it. I think you should get at least a Radeon HD 5870 or a GTX 480, because they have DX11, meaning they provide a real upgrade.
Love these old XPS’s. I used to have an XPS 710 not too long ago with a core 2 extreme qx6700, 4gb ram, 8800GTX SLI, and two 250GB hard drives in raid 0. Great tower
You have any tutorials on how this could be done. I have a Dell XPS 400. I remember nodding mine to fit another T3400 board and Xeon 3323(Q6600) by cutting out an IO shield for it. So, I've definitely messed with the case as a server. Is it just screwing in motherboard standoffs and cutting another location for the IO and PCI slots? Or is there more too it? Any insight would be awesome :) As long as you don't mind? Don't want to force anybody? I'm just asking cause I'm curious.
@@Masonly2 It's okay. I actually found LGA 1366 boards that should fit perfectly on EBay. It's pretty cool for a server upgrade considering the 6core Xeons that could possibly be used in them. Welp..only one way to find out.
I had a Q9450, paired it with a HD5850 and it served me well for years. It couldn't handle GTA 5 at HD though, I had to go into windowed mode and set it around 900p for a smooth experience.
My mom and I have worked as IT technicians for an employer for years, and the ceo always bought xps systems, and one of the first towers was this one, and at one point it was given to me because it was old and he always upgrades everything, and I KNEW this was a special case worth keeping, but alas we needed the space and ended up recycling or giving it away, but seeing yours brings me back! The good news is a do have an XPS 8100 still, so it’s a bit newer with a first gen i7, going to turn it into an XP gaming rig
I always loved this kind of machines! I had a Packard Bell with a Q8300, 8GB of DDR3 ram and a 9300 GS (Later 9600 GT), it was my first gaming pc and I used it to play AAA games from 2011. I still love the lga 775 platform, it's flexible and still up to date in normal tasks, loved this video reviewing this kind of computers.
I still have that case sitting on my shelf, love how huge it is, mostly metal case and the aesthetics of it. When I ordered mine it came with 4 gigs of ram, winxp (I remember paying extra to install XP over Vista), 2x9800GTs in SLI (thin ribbon SLI bridge came installed) and a core 2 quad, (2.8 ghz I think) on an nForce chipset equipped mobo. I still have all the components sitting around here. Can't remember, but I think it was around $12-1400. Service tag still works at dell, HQRRLJ1, but it doesn't have the config on it anymore...
I pull these from the electronics recycling bins at my county transfer station fairly often. I got a gateway FX x58 i7 920 the other day also with case.
I did NOT expect to see this thing in my feed. This was my first legit gaming PC, which I acquired used back in 2012. Gave it away a few years back and the owner still uses it daily for work. One thing I remember about it is how massive it is; I recall it being much bigger and heavier than my s340 build.
You put SSAO on 0.5 in the metro last light settings. Bumping it up can result in a big average FPS drop depending on your system. But, just disabling it will get rid of all the blur and will look really nice, at the cost of a couple frames.
I work on / refurbish computers as a hobby and I came across one of these at a recycling facility. It unfortunately had heavy case damage and a bad motherboard, but I ended up taking out the power supply and I still use it in a testing rig to this day.
I got one of these from a scrap heap. I plan on upgrading it and seeing if I can play some games. The case is gorgeous and I want to make it a sleeper!
I found one of these at a Goodwill for 15 bucks with everything but RAM, HDD and a GPU and after almost a year of sourcing parts, customizing and waiting for shipping, it's mostly complete and runs with all new modern PC parts and a window to see everything that's been replaced. All that's left is mounting the 3rd RGB fan to the window on the door, finishing the rough edges on the window cut out, cutting vent holes for the 3rd fan and refinishing the aluminum case. Components wise I'll upgrade the GPU and RAM soon but other than that it's wonderful. Specs: CPU - Ryzen 5 3400G with a Wraith Prism Cooler, GPU - Gigabyte GT 1030...for now, MB - Asus B550-Plus, RAM - Teamgroup T-Force Delta TUF Edition DDRA 2x8Gb for 16Gb...for now PSU - Gamemax GM-800 800w 80+ Bronze, Boot Drive - Crucial P2 500Gb SSD, HDDs - Seagate Barracuda 4Tb + 1Tb, Disc Drive 1 - LG Bluray Drive, Disc Drive 2 - Original Asus Disc Drive, Case fans - Inwin Sirius Loop x2/3, A wifi 6 Adapter card, A USB Expansion card and some extra magnetic RGB light strips and USB Hubs
I'm watching this video on a 2010 Dell Studio XPS 8100. Got it from a client a couple years ago when her father went into extended care. I'd like to meet the guy that sold a 95 year old man an $1100USD gaming machine to check his email. This is a Core i7-870 2.93, currently running 12GB of RAM, WD Black 1TB and Seagate 4TB HDs, Gigabyte GTX 1060 3GB video, and Windows 10. Triple monitors round out things with a 32" Vizio HDTV, HP 23" and VieSonci 24" LCDs. Been very happy with it. Thanks for the video.
9:10 (CPU: 83% GPU: 50%) The first thing that would come to my mind is a bottleneck, but you're not wrong with 4gb of ram either, my friend had 4 and the game was literally unplayable.
Holy shit this brings back some seriously good memories. Had one of the 630i xps back in 2008. This machine was my actual first gaming machine that I could afford. Yeha I was only 17 at the time but I made payments to my parents. Seriously the coolest piece of hardware. I had sli 9800s in it quad core processor.
I have to of two of those very same XPS's. One is my sleeper PC with a 980Ti and a Asus X79 Rampage 3 Formula Micro ATX board running an Intel i7 3930X with 16Gb of DDR3 Ram. The other still has all the original hardware in it. I just don't have the heart to upgrade it. And as is, it's a pretty good computer. Nice to see someone else also enjoys a little old fashion computer form and function .
I still have an XPS630i from 2008 ... Core2 E8400 and Geforce 9800 GT, later upgraded to QX9650 and 2X 9800 GT SLI. Continued to use the case with a 4770K right up until 2017. The LEDs on the front panel are RGB if you can find the software and get the software to work. Case airflow is fine without an exhaust, the two intake fans are 3 amp and capable of high rpm.
I just picked up one of these for the same price as you it basically $100 and it's cosmetically perfect. Oh my God the case is a work of art. I'm actually thinking about doing a new-build with the case because the quality is stellar. Till then it's my old school emulator on win 7. I think this is literally the highest quality case I've ever seen. You don't have a ton of overclocking options but it was pretty easy for me to get 1600fsb stable which will translate into various frequencies depending on the chip someone has. Worth keeping your eyes peeled for a 750 Ti or 960 someone is unloading under fifty bucks. Could definitely be an ultra budget gaming rig
I grabbed a couple of XPS 8100, think they where used by an architect firm. Just laying on the curb. The white and black theme like you said, with the XPS pressed into the metal on the sides. Haven't touched them in a bit cuz my laptop died and win 10 is torcheres to get back on.... Like that's news, lovin the old school stuff. Sadly haven't seen many streamers doing it much lately. They were great machines, I bought mine in 2008 with the QX6850 and dual 9800GT Nvidia cards, came with Vista upgraded to 7 a few years later bumping memory to 8, upgraded graphics to a 3gig Nvidia and a ssd, continued to use for gaming until 2015, still runs and use for things other than gaming, was over $2000
Find a lens filter that fits your camera (If you even use a DSLR or camcorder) and that tiny upgrade would probably make this channel comparable to tech giants. Love your videos, thank you for providing me with cheap computer hardware content.
I actually buy these to take the power supplies, they also had the same model with lower tier options, it came with a core 2 duo, and an 8800 GT 512MB. They were pretty sweet either way, also the core 2 quad Q6600 ones actually came with 2 mechanical drives in SLI, im not sure what the storage all added up to, but they ran as one GPT partition in Raid.
i used to have a i7 2600 dell xps, that thing was like triggers broom over about 4-5 years, slowly changed everything over time, before finally going ryzen. Literally was just an xps office machine that i stuck a 970 in lol. Only stopped using it when it would hit 90c+, with a good cooler and good thermal paste too!
Man, Dude, Bro, i actually got a case/psu exactly like that one and build a new modern system inside of it, the chassy is amazing, GREAT airflow and fan control, the lightning is superb, and its super quiet, it also has RGB lmao, everything is super top notch quality and super solid, i wanted to rebuild it to its original form, but the motherboard is quite bothersome to find Edit theres an Nvidia tool, that will let you control the lightning and the fanspeed, the daugherboard below the ODDs is for that, it also has bluetooth and a 5-1 card reader built in, its trully an amazing machine
Love the look of these particular models from 2008-2009 and the quality from the case and components is superb, very heavy though. I have a 730x which I picked up last year for about 100€. Converted it to a modern gaming rig with all the latest components. Trickiest bit was to find an adapter for the controller board which powers all the case LEDs. Luckily someone in the states makes one as the stock controller draws power from a proprietary connector which comes off the power supply. As mentioned in the video if you find one of these pick it up and upgrade, you wont regret it.
I bought a Dell XPS 720 h2c for €35,- a few months ago. It fully works (although the AIO is not as good as it used to be because the cpu can get hot af) and I upgraded it to a point that it still plays modern games kinda ok. It's fun to play around with hardware from that time period, but i kinda hate the bios because it's locked down to a point that you can only increase the multiplier to overclock and a few other things.
I have custom built an x58 system into one of these cases. I still use the stock lighting system with the dell mio board and nvidia performance software. The rear has mounting holes for an 92mm exhaust fan. I currently have a delta industrial fan attached to a fan controller installed. I still use the stock 750w psu also made by delta. Mobo asus p6t deluxe v2, cpu x5675 oc to 4.58ghz on air, cpu cooler corsair a70, 16gb ddr3, gigabyte g1 windforce gtx 970. I replaced 2 front 120mm fans with 2 corsair af140mm red fans custom mounted. I run 1 x 256gb ssd and 2 x 1tb 7200rpm drive. Currently I have modded side panel and installed glass window and am in the process of polishing the entire case to mirror finish. Have put a ton of work into the chassis stock and modified. If anyone has any questions or needs help getting anything working such as the lighting or stock wiring, send me a message.
I had one of these beasts when I was younger! Maybe not the exact model, but an XPS in the same case. The problem I seem to remember was that it had this storage system called RAID which synched numerous HDDs together. The system was very unstable and ended up dying.
I had a 650i motherboard which was the P5N-e SLI which I sold and got a 750i P5N-D motherboard running an E8400, 4GB DDR2 RAM, GTX 9800+ SC, WD Blue 500GB HD, and a 650 PSU. The GFX card was updated 4 times with a GTX 260 (216) , a GTX 470 briefly, and now a 560 Ti and another 4 GB of RAM. It can run Win 10 Pro just fine plays games decently
I have an XPS 8100 as my gaming rig. Rocking a similarly striking white and black color scheme from factory. Core i7-2600 non-k. Originally had a 500GB HDD, Radeon 6990 1GB GDDR5, and 8gb of ddr3 1333MHz it was certainly a capable beast. I bought it with a dead GPU for $70, and set to work. Now it's rocking a GTX 1060 6GB, 2x 4TB HDDs, 120GB boot SSD, 32GB Geil EVO Corsa RAM, and it was cheap! It will still do VR and anything else you throw at it. My only complaint is that these old Dell BIOSes and motherboards do NOT support newer R7, R9, and RX series GPUs. Definitely something to consider.

I'm still rocking with my over 10 year old gaming PC. BSEL modded Intel Pentium E2160, vmodded ATI HD4670, 2x2GB RAM and 19'' 1280x1024 monitor. I can play AAA games like The Elder Scrolls: Oblivion/Skyrim, The Witcher 2, Mass Effect 1/2/3, Dragon Age 1/2/3 and Fallout 3/NV/TTW. Too bad I can't play Fallout 4 or The Witcher 3 because my GPU doesn't support DX11, but I can watch ''Let's play'' videos and it's almost like playing the game. I have my studio tour and gaming setup video on my channel.
I had one of these, can’t remember if it was a higher version, but it was tricked out with dual GTX8800 sli I think, it’s been ages so I can’t remember. The funniest thing about this system was you could set the front two fans to max and it would sound like a jet taking off and pulling in a massive amount of air. Also the LEDs were RGB.
My main rig right now is the Dell Studio XPS 435MT (x58 chipset from around 2009) that I have upgraded with 18gb DDR3 1333mhz ram, PNY GTX 750 ti 2gb, Xeon W3580 4c/8t 3.33mhz cpu, and an EVGA 600watt 80+ power supply. The computer was given to me, but I have slowly over time bought all the upgraded used parts (except for the power supply which was new). Can't overclock with Dell's bios and can't use the higher core count xeon that the xps 435T can. With that said, I'm able to play Far Cry 5, Far Cry New Dawn, GTA5, Dishonored, Dishonored 2, Assassin's Creed Unity, etc. with respectable framerates @ 1600x900 resolution. I can't afford to buy or build anything newer than that and it is a decently pleasant gaming experience.
I just don't know how you're getting prices so cheap in the UK, as I am a Canadian, those machines can cost up to 300-500$CAD on ebay's Canada website, not sure if looking to the UK website prices/listings would be the same! Love watching your videos everytime you upload one!
I was last into playing games around 2009, so didn't realise current games reached 100GB. That's incredible. It's definitely true about how restrictions can enhance creativity and that excesses usually lead to sloppiness. Pretty sure they could make the games smaller if necessary. On the other hand, helps storage sales.
Most likely its original operating system would've been Window Vista home premium. I think even the Core 2 Quads still seems to perform well today for general tasks and older games.
might also be worth mentioning that the motherboard is mounted upside down and that the case is a "left-handed" orientation versus the traditional right-handed
these cases are amazing. i still have mine, which i purchased in 2008. very well built, heavy as shit, RGB before it was cool(which still works in windows10)... honestly, i doubt i'll ever change cases, unless the industry sttops producing ATX derived mootherboards.
Owned the xps 730 and still have the case kicking around but the motherboard popped a few caps. Main problem with the XPS 7xx series was the power supply and mobo were BTX, that said I was able to find a QX6800 core2 quad extreme on Ebay for `50$ (circa 2012) which did give the system a second wind to keep it running modern games until 2015 effortlessly along with a ram upgrade, ssd, and a GTX 660 it proved to be quite the workhorse. ps I did manage to get win 8 running with all needed drivers etc and I'm quite sure windows 10 would work too if need be.
8gb of DDR2, a 2gb R7 360 and you have a pretty solid esport PC. That really tells a lot of what is the real lifespam of a flagship CPU. Can't wait to i7 2600k 10th year aniversary... with 8 threads and up to 32gb of DDR3 it can be quite a beast, after all, there's only a couple of games that are going to give problems to the old i7. Hell, even Fx8350 will still perform "kind of" ok in 2 years

I had a XPS 720 until I sold it recently because I needed the cash and space, it was a really cool machine. Someday I'd like to find the 730 since that's standard ATX (as far as I'm aware) and I could cram in whatever I want.
I want to see a comparison of this 10 year old PC vs a $1200 new PC. Then benchmark everything, I want to see everything from cine bench, video rendering, and gaming. The idea is to show the improvements over the last 10 years. This also will help people decide if they need to upgrade, because there are still many people running systems that a near 10 years old.
Noticed that on the driver screenshot, there was a driver for Windows 7 and a driver for Windows 8, but not Windows 10 - hence why you were having problems on Windows 10 on the GPU. Most things that ran on 8 should work fine on 10, so I'd be tempted to try 10 again using the Windows 8 drivers. Though in all honesty, given that this machine shipped with Vista, I don't think it would like 10 that much, and Windows 7 is the sweet spot here. Shame it runs out of support in less than 6 months.
I had one of these. It came with an Intel Core 2 Quad, about 2gb Ram, & a Geforce 9800GT. everything about it was good... except it had Windows Vista which gave me more crashes than any other Windows I had.

You should upgrade it and mod it to atx I own a xps 720 and i did that it's the best case and classy
630i case is ATX already, so it's a simple swap of the components. :)

TBH, GTA V looks good even at 720p/Normal settings
It's such a well optimized game even low end pcs can handle it low to medium

Our family pc still has a q9400 and is still decent on Windows 7. We'll need to upgrade if we want to use Windows 10.

You put SSAO on 0.5 in the metro last light settings. Bumping it up can result in a big average FPS drop depending on your system. But, just disabling it will get rid of all the blur and will look really nice, at the cost of a couple frames.

I work on / refurbish computers as a hobby and I came across one of these at a recycling facility. It unfortunately had heavy case damage and a bad motherboard, but I ended up taking out the power supply and I still use it in a testing rig to this day.
I got one of these from a scrap heap. I plan on upgrading it and seeing if I can play some games. The case is gorgeous and I want to make it a sleeper!
I found one of these at a Goodwill for 15 bucks with everything but RAM, HDD and a GPU and after almost a year of sourcing parts, customizing and waiting for shipping, it's mostly complete and runs with all new modern PC parts and a window to see everything that's been replaced. All that's left is mounting the 3rd RGB fan to the window on the door, finishing the rough edges on the window cut out, cutting vent holes for the 3rd fan and refinishing the aluminum case. Components wise I'll upgrade the GPU and RAM soon but other than that it's wonderful.

I'm watching this video on a 2010 Dell Studio XPS 8100. Got it from a client a couple years ago when her father went into extended care. I'd like to meet the guy that sold a 95 year old man an $1100USD gaming machine to check his email. This is a Core i7-870 2.93, currently running 12GB of RAM, WD Black 1TB and Seagate 4TB HDs, Gigabyte GTX 1060 3GB video, and Windows 10. Triple monitors round out things with a 32" Vizio HDTV, HP 23" and VieSonci 24" LCDs. Been very happy with it. Thanks for the video.

Holy shit this brings back some seriously good memories. Had one of the 630i xps back in 2008. This machine was my actual first gaming machine that I could afford. Yeha I was only 17 at the time but I made payments to my parents. Seriously the coolest piece of hardware. I had sli 9800s in it quad core processor.

I had the xps9100, upgraded it as much as possible till 2 years ago, i still use the case (which I love!) with new components

I have to of two of those very same XPS's. One is my sleeper PC with a 980Ti and a Asus X79 Rampage 3 Formula Micro ATX board running an Intel i7 3930X with 16Gb of DDR3 Ram. The other still has all the original hardware in it. I just don't have the heart to upgrade it. And as is, it's a pretty good computer. Nice to see someone else also enjoys a little old fashion computer form and function .
I still have an XPS630i from 2008 ... Core2 E8400 and Geforce 9800 GT, later upgraded to QX9650 and 2X 9800 GT SLI. Continued to use the case with a 4770K right up until 2017. The LEDs on the front panel are RGB if you can find the software and get the software to work. Case airflow is fine without an exhaust, the two intake fans are 3 amp and capable of high rpm.

I just picked up one of these for the same price as you it basically $100 and it's cosmetically perfect. Oh my God the case is a work of art. I'm actually thinking about doing a new-build with the case because the quality is stellar. Till then it's my old school emulator on win 7. I think this is literally the highest quality case I've ever seen. You don't have a ton of overclocking options but it was pretty easy for me to get 1600fsb stable which will translate into various frequencies depending on the chip someone has. Worth keeping your eyes peeled for a 750 Ti or 960 someone is unloading under fifty bucks. Could definitely be an ultra budget gaming rig
I grabbed a couple of XPS 8100, think they where used by an architect firm. Just laying on the curb. The white and black theme like you said, with the XPS pressed into the metal on the sides. Haven't touched them in a bit cuz my laptop died and win 10 is torcheres to get back on.... Like that's news, lovin the old school stuff. Sadly haven't seen many streamers doing it much lately. Enjoy the cooler weather while it lasts.

They were great machines, I bought mine in 2008 with the QX6850 and dual 9800GT Nvidia cards, came with Vista upgraded to 7 a few years later bumping memory to 8, upgraded graphics to a 3gig Nvidia and a ssd, continued to use for gaming until 2015, still runs and use for things other than gaming, was over $2000
Find a lens filter that fits your camera (If you even use a DSLR or camcorder) and that tiny upgrade would probably make this channel comparable to tech giants. Love your videos, thank you for providing me with cheap computer hardware content.
I own a 630i, 730x and 720, great cases. 730x was upgraded to 16gb ram, a 6 core Xeon overclocked, and still holds up today.
I actually buy these to take the power supplies, they also had the same model with lower tier options, it came with a core 2 duo, and an 8800 GT 512MB. They were pretty sweet either way, also the core 2 quad Q6600 ones actually came with 2 mechanical drives in SLI, im not sure what the storage all added up to, but they ran as one GPT partition in Raid.
i used to have a i7 2600 dell xps, that thing was like triggers broom over about 4-5 years, slowly changed everything over time, before finally going ryzen. Literally was just an xps office machine that i stuck a 970 in lol. Only stopped using it when it would hit 90c+, with a good cooler and good thermal paste too!
Man, Dude, Bro, i actually got a case/psu exactly like that one and build a new modern system inside of it, the chassy is amazing, GREAT airflow and fan control, the lightning is superb, and its super quiet, it also has RGB lmao, everything is super top notch quality and super solid, i wanted to rebuild it to its original form, but the motherboard is quite bothersome to find
Edit theres an Nvidia tool, that will let you control the lightning and the fanspeed, the daugherboard below the ODDs is for that, it also has bluetooth and a 5-1 card reader built in, its trully an amazing machine

Love the look of these particular models from 2008-2009 and the quality from the case and components is superb, very heavy though. I have a 730x which I picked up last year for about 100€. Converted it to a modern gaming rig with all the latest components. Trickiest bit was to find an adapter for the controller board which powers all the case LEDs. Luckily someone in the states makes one as the stock controller draws power from a proprietary connector which comes off the power supply. As mentioned in the video if you find one of these pick it up and upgrade, you wont regret it.

I bought a Dell XPS 720 h2c for €35,- a few months ago. It fully works (although the AIO is not as good as it used to be because the cpu can get hot af) and I upgraded it to a point that it still plays modern games kinda ok. It's fun to play around with hardware from that time period, but i kinda hate the bios because it's locked down to a point that you can only increase the multiplier to overclock and a few other things.
I have custom built an x58 system into one of these cases. I still use the stock lighting system with the dell mio board and nvidia performance software. The rear has mounting holes for an 92mm exhaust fan. I currently have a delta industrial fan attached to a fan controller installed. I still use the stock 750w psu also made by delta. Mobo asus p6t deluxe v2, cpu x5675 oc to 4.58ghz on air, cpu cooler corsair a70, 16gb ddr3, gigabyte g1 windforce gtx 970. I replaced 2 front 120mm fans with 2 corsair af140mm red fans custom mounted. I run 1 x 256gb ssd and 2 x 1tb 7200rpm drive. Currently I have modded side panel and installed glass window and am in the process of polishing the entire case to mirror finish. Have put a ton of work into the chassis stock and modified. If anyone has any questions or needs help getting anything working such as the lighting or stock wiring, send me a message.
I had one of these beasts when I was younger! Maybe not the exact model, but an XPS in the same case. The problem I seem to remember was that it had this storage system called RAID which synched numerous HDDs together. The system was very unstable and ended up dying.
I had a 650i motherboard which was the P5N-e SLI which I sold and got a 750i P5N-D motherboard running an E8400, 4GB DDR2 RAM, GTX 9800+ SC, WD Blue 500GB HD, and a 650 PSU. The GFX card was updated 4 times with a GTX 260 (216) , a GTX 470 briefly, and now a 560 Ti and another 4 GB of RAM. It can run Win 10 Pro just fine plays games decently
I have an XPS 8100 as my gaming rig. Rocking a similarly striking white and black color scheme from factory. Core i7-2600 non-k. Originally had a 500GB HDD, Radeon 6990 1GB GDDR5, and 8gb of ddr3 1333MHz it was certainly a capable beast. I bought it with a dead GPU for $70, and set to work. Now it's rocking a GTX 1060 6GB, 2x 4TB HDDs, 120GB boot SSD, 32GB Geil EVO Corsa RAM, and it was cheap! It will still do VR and anything else you throw at it. My only complaint is that these old Dell BIOSes and motherboards do NOT support newer R7, R9, and RX series GPUs. Definitely something to consider.

I'm still rocking with my over 10 year old gaming PC. BSEL modded Intel Pentium E2160, vmodded ATI HD4670, 2x2GB RAM and 19'' 1280x1024 monitor. I can play AAA games like The Elder Scrolls: Oblivion/Skyrim, The Witcher 2, Mass Effect 1/2/3, Dragon Age 1/2/3 and Fallout 3/NV/TTW. Too bad I can't play Fallout 4 or The Witcher 3 because my GPU doesn't support DX11, but I can watch ''Let's play'' videos and it's almost like playing the game. I have my studio tour and gaming setup video on my channel.
I had one of these, can’t remember if it was a higher version, but it was tricked out with dual GTX8800 sli I think, it’s been ages so I can’t remember. The funniest thing about this system was you could set the front two fans to max and it would sound like a jet taking off and pulling in a massive amount of air. Also the LEDs were RGB.

My main rig right now is the Dell Studio XPS 435MT (x58 chipset from around 2009) that I have upgraded with 18gb DDR3 1333mhz ram, PNY GTX 750 ti 2gb, Xeon W3580 4c/8t 3.33mhz cpu, and an EVGA 600watt 80+ power supply. The computer was given to me, but I have slowly over time bought all the upgraded used parts (except for the power supply which was new). Can't overclock with Dell's bios and can't use the higher core count xeon that the xps 435T can. With that said, I'm able to play Far Cry 5, Far Cry New Dawn, GTA5, Dishonored, Dishonored 2, Assassin's Creed Unity, etc. with respectable framerates @ 1600x900 resolution. I can't afford to buy or build anything newer than that and it is a decently pleasant gaming experience.
I just don't know how you're getting prices so cheap in the UK, as I am a Canadian, those machines can cost up to 300-500$CAD on ebay's Canada website, not sure if looking to the UK website prices/listings would be the same! Love watching your videos everytime you upload one!
I was last into playing games around 2009, so didn't realise current games reached 100GB. That's incredible. It's definitely true about how restrictions can enhance creativity and that excesses usually lead to sloppiness. Pretty sure they could make the games smaller if necessary.
On the other hand, helps storage sales.

Most likely its original operating system would've been Window Vista home premium. I think even the Core 2 Quads still seems to perform well today for general tasks and older games.
might also be worth mentioning that the motherboard is mounted upside down and that the case is a "left-handed" orientation versus the traditional right-handed

these cases are amazing. i still have mine, which i purchased in 2008. very well built, heavy as shit, RGB before it was cool(which still works in windows10)... honestly, i doubt i'll ever change cases, unless the industry sttops producing ATX derived mootherboards.

Owned the xps 730 and still have the case kicking around but the motherboard popped a few caps. Main problem with the XPS 7xx series was the power supply and mobo were BTX, that said I was able to find a QX6800 core2 quad extreme on Ebay for `50$ (circa 2012) which did give the system a second wind to keep it running modern games until 2015 effortlessly along with a ram upgrade, ssd, and a GTX 660 it proved to be quite the workhorse. ps I did manage to get win 8 running with all needed drivers etc and I'm quite sure windows 10 would work too if need be.
8gb of DDR2, a 2gb R7 360 and you have a pretty solid esport PC.
That really tells a lot of what is the real lifespam of a flagship CPU. Can't wait to i7 2600k 10th year aniversary... with 8 threads and up to 32gb of DDR3 it can be quite a beast, after all, there's only a couple of games that are going to give problems to the old i7. Hell, even Fx8350 will still perform "kind of" ok in 2 years

I had a XPS 720 until I sold it recently because I needed the cash and space, it was a really cool machine. Someday I'd like to find the 730 since that's standard ATX (as far as I'm aware) and I could cram in whatever I want.

One of the nicer setups from Dell. I remember it weighing a ton though, as I carried 10 blocks from the yard sale I bought it from.
I want to see a comparison of this 10 year old PC vs a $1200 new PC. Then benchmark everything, I want to see everything from cine bench, video rendering, and gaming. The idea is to show the improvements over the last 10 years. This also will help people decide if they need to upgrade, because there are still many people running systems that a near 10 years old.
I used to drool over these things in Dell catalogs when I was in middle school. Good times.

I had a Q9450 back in 2008, paired with two GeForce 9800 GX2s in SLI. The whole build was something like two and a half grand back then!
Noticed that on the driver screenshot, there was a driver for Windows 7 and a driver for Windows 8, but not Windows 10 - hence why you were having problems on Windows 10 on the GPU.
Most things that ran on 8 should work fine on 10, so I'd be tempted to try 10 again using the Windows 8 drivers.
Though in all honesty, given that this machine shipped with Vista, I don't think it would like 10 that much, and Windows 7 is the sweet spot here. Shame it runs out of support in less than 6 months.
I had one of these. It came with an Intel Core 2 Quad, about 2gb Ram, & a Geforce 9800GT. everything about it was good... except it had Windows Vista which gave me more crashes than any other Windows I had.
You can force-install those legacy drivers on windows 10 with device manager
