I just love John Lawton’s voice and songs. Will always be missed.
😪😪😪😪😪😪😪
Such a great bluesy type voice. Dio said John was one of his favorite singers. Talk about a compliment! I also like what he did with Lucifers Friend.
Also in the Les Humphries Singers, doing the lead on one of their big hits "Mama Loo".
John replaced Dio for the Royal Albert Hall performance of the Butterfly Ball album, he blew all the other singers off the stage including David Coverdale and Glenn Hughes……
@@glendoucet5726Yes 💯🙌👍❣️
R.I.P. John Lawton, Lee Kerslake, Ken Hensley, Trevor Bolder, David Byron & Gary Thain
+ John Wetton (appeared on High & Mighty).
He was amazing singer.😢
And still remains...
John Lawton, you were the best and your "come back to me" will always be remembered.
An amazing singer, performer and person, Heep were very fortunate to have John for three albums and to always be in the Heep family, he is sadly missed….
Did you know that there is a fourth Uriah Heep album with Lawton on vocals but it was never released. But you could pull it up on the internet and it's fantastic. 🙋
John loves Bulgaria so much.R.I.P John Bulgaria loves you too. Thank you for all!
How on earth did I ever miss these guys? I was in my early 20s when this was kicking off and their music and virtuosity, was exactly what I was about. Absolutely superb band by any standards.
They were as hot then a the top hard rock groups in the early 70s.
I first heard John Lawton on the Fallen Angels record, which I got as a sort of "random" record as part of some cut-price deal package from a record club in the mid-80's. Before that, I'd sort of inherited some of my 8 year older uncle's Uriah Heep (David Byron era) records by way of my aunt, his youngest sister. I really loved Fallen Angels, and then got Firefly when all those "Nice Price" records started coming out in the later half of the 80s. I only discovered Innocent Victim a decade or so ago, but by then I'd already discovered so much new music on my own decades earlier, that the new-fangled internet took a while to bring up this "lost" record (for me).
John Lawton, such a lovely rock voice! Unfortunately he arrived when musical talent started to become less important than visual appearance and flamboyancy when performing... Still, one of my enduring all-time favourite rock singers of all time!
Mr John Lawton is a great singer on his own right, just as David Byron... Second classical period of Uriah Heep is with him behind the mic!
John Lawton was the best of the good singers Heep had, and one of the best singers ever over all. Listen to what he does in Lucifer's Friend.
100% Agree
Fantastic singer
Gerry Bron sounds like a very bitter man. Snide comments like his don’t belong in a tribute to an amazing talent like John Lawton’s
The man is a total wanker. Doesn’t have a good thing to say about any of it. Trevor Bolder’s description of Bron “producing” the album - you can pick up just how disinterested he was.
I heard he is a transman and at that time he was coming out so he has a lot of demons and that's why he chooses to hate on people instead of appreciating them . He's probably dead by now.
agree he seems like a real turd in the punchbowl, and at 10:34 Trevor Bolder sums it up nicely.
Indeed bro. Heep is among my all time favs, and I love David Byron. He is and should be the Definitive Heep vocalist. That being said John Lawton is one of the greatest heavy rock vocalists ever.
Lovely to see John Lawton and Bernie Shaw sharing the stage at 22 minutes ❤
John Lawton was massively under-rated.
Джона Лоутона могут "НЕдоОценить" только лишь люди НЕдоУМки. И это ФАКТ.
Wherever you are John, you have to know that you did a really good work with Uriah Heep ! I loved (and still love) your voice and melody. That's why I do not understand Gerry Bron claiming it's the wrong choice as a singer for Heep.
Gerry Bron seems to always have negative opinions on anything concerning Uriah Heep.
Gerry Bron was so bitter.
Да и НЕ нужно обращать своё ВНИМАНИЕ на этого Джерри Брона, потому что он просто ЧЁКНУТЫЙ на всю башку.
Fantastic, versatile voice!
This man should be more known by rock fans...he sang at his best for heep, the problem was the lack of really good songs
Conquest makes a case for itself. Played it all the way through afew weeks back and it's melodic and the songs are great. I missed John Lawton, though - his presence and voice would have competed it.
Tremendous singer with a huge and powerful voice .... Saw him with Heep at Newcastle City Hall ( UK ) in 1978 and 1979 ( Innocent Victim and Fallen Angel tours ) .
I found Gerry Bron to be a misery arse and not in step with the band. This band is my longest-running collection of inspiring heroes. Long live Uriah Heep.
Agreed. He hardly has a good word to say about anyone or anything.I felt like I was watching old Meldew from that One Foot in the Grave tv show.
I hate Gerry Bron
I agree........Bron was an ass!!
@@carlosmassoco3099 He hates himself, if you ask me. John Lawton was a great addition to the band.
That's because he is a sad gay old man and he hates on anything that has any really town because he doesn't. Guys like that never have talent but they mooch off of other people that have talent until they dry up. The guy is a born loser
Uriah comes back with great vocals, great songs
What a voice. Remarkable
Awesome singer, any band would have been fortunate to have him in
Can’t believe you’re gone😢
I miss Ken Hensley. He wrote all the great Heep hits. He also wrote many great Christ centered songs that rocked. He was never afraid to share his belief and trust in Christ. He's in heaven now with the ultimate front man.
I liked the songs Hensley wrote for Heep but I don't like songs about christ... I like songs about Satan, Hell & Devil though... 😇
@@SergeCaelers why don't you like songs about Christ?
@@robertbishop5357 Because songs about christ are just not my taste.... (in contrary to songs about Satan, Hell & Devil ofcourse).
@@SergeCaelers ok. Well maybe it depends on the bands you listen to.
@@robertbishop5357 Maybe.....but I think that the Devil is gods right hand man.
Gerry Bron cracks me up lol. Bitter to the very end.
He's a miserable *********
Spoke his mind, though.
BIG VOICE! So sorry he left us
Uriah Heep sempre teve grandes vocalistas e Jonh Lawton foi um dos melhores do U.H .
Com certeza! Que voz...
Free n' Easy is one of my favorites from Heep. That whole album should have kicked ass like this song.
Firefly and Fallen Angel are far and away my favorite Uriah Heep albums...and Lawton much preferred on vocals - really awesome voice in my opinion.
Gerry Bron was being extremely unkind with his comments about John. I think he misses a front man who's drunk all the time
Gerry isn’t wrong, I think he’s harsh though. David Byron was the most underrated singer of the 70s rock period. It’s sad to see someone get that down a bad spiral.
I was aware of Heap as a Metalhead since the early eighties, but only being a child of Mt/v and an American, I was just too young. I do remember reading about them in some magazines like Circus. The first time I heard a Heap song was through W.A.S.P and Blackie Lawless was singing it. Much later on through RUclips, I saw the original song and was blown away. They should have hired Blackie, could you imagine that. My final thought on Uriah Heap is they were just too Pop oriented for my metal taste. The song I'm talking about is Easy Living, my favorite song by this group.
I want Wise Man played at my funeral.
When he wore that leather, he was definitely the Hard Rock Elvis!
Looked like a vampire....I absolutely hate this Mk of UH...
Thank God UH didn't listen the disappointed critics and went their way. Now we have three brilliant albums with another singer. It's expected from Motorhead to have 23 sound the same albums but from UH we want some variations and evolution and they still Rock!
This is a great band never heard them budgie are like this deserved more attention the record company won't promote you if won't be a product for them
It is called the music BUSINESS, not the music hobby......
I wonder if Gerry Bron had ever said one positive thing in his life? Hasn't got a nice thing to say about anyone!
Totally agree.
As a almost complete outsider, I’d say Lawton is the better singer.
Enjoyed that. A good watch.
The best thing about about fallen Angel is the awesome album cover artwork.
Spoiler: Great bands like Uriah Heep would be better off without guys like Gerry Bron
Gerry Bron was a tool bag and really was lazy.
"So long easy rider..." R.I.P. 😪
👍After David Byron,Mr.Lawton was also Fantastic, coming out of Lucifer's Friend, the Band he was in, & Peter Goal by as another Uriah Heep Great Singer!🇬🇧🙏✌️😎✌️❤️
I love David Byron.
Actually I have NO memory of Uriah Heep after David Byron. That would be like replacing Roger Daltrey or Robert Plant.....
Interesting documentary… I saw them a few times shortly after Dave Byron left (I always thought he was a great frontman) and my favorite. Boy that Mr. Bron doesn’t mince any words much 🥴
Great singer yes but not the same anymore. Everything I liked about Uriah Heep was gone. They lost me at this point. Abominog album brought me back.
I’m not going to lie I stop buying heep albums after magicians birthday anything after that I didn’t care for and I still don’t BUT I did see them open for rainbow in 77 and they were FUCKEN GREAT Mick Box stole the show 🤘🤘🤘🤘🤘🤘🤘🤘
Lucifer’s Friend was awesome
No Uriah Heep without Ken Hensley!!
Agree!
😭😭😭
👋👋👋
Saw him with Heep in June '77.
I knew I recognized Lawton's name from somewhere. He sang for Zar in the 80s.
David Byron was goed Maar John Lawton ook. Heb ze diverse malen live gezien.
There is only David Byron . The rest are a shadow of genius !!!
What is the deal with gerry bron? It seems like he thinks the band was shitty on every album except on demons and wizards.
He is right. Ken was uriah heep with Byron. Thu had a chemistry. Byron and ken created that mystical vibe that was their identity. It all fell apart. Bernie is tattoo see mn stick and metal for the HEEP but He does ok doing the classics. Lawton was totally wrong and sliman was awful. Heep freedom, the cover band f from Hungary sounds luke Byron era and thy r preserving the classic sound brilliantly. I thyre much better than the current HEEP.
But even if you hear him talk about the Byron albums he‘s mostly negative about them.
Lucifer's Friend, great stuff as well
i must say i enjoy Firefly & Sympathy
I was done with Heep after Wonderworld, wouldn't pick them up again, briefly, till Abominog. Picked them up again with Awaken the Sleeper, been on board since!
Free me wss the perfectvsong for Lawton but its correct that heep.los the mystical feel.after david and ken.
When I first heard 'Qonquest' as 19 year old, I conluded recruting John Schloman singin' for Heep was terrible, but by repeatdetly listening 'Qonquest' after 33 years, I find the album growing better and better. To be completely honest: I consider Schloman as a better singer for Heep than Lawton ever was.
The last singer is a Glenn Hughes sound and look alike.
He is really great, I agree.. Black Sabbath's Seventh Star is nice and his vocals on The Dead Daisies are fantastic just like John Corabi's previous albums..
SHAME on Encyclopaedia Metallum, the Metal Archives, for the gross mistake of ignoring Uriah Heep, and they should only know it, the grammarcommies they are...
👏👏👏
59:36 John Norum was probably at the Concert and thought to himself, I want to do that kind of Shit too. After that he founded "Europe".
David Byron is still the best. I know he is singing up in heaven. July Morning...
28:40 Where can I watch this video?😮
I appreciate Brons' candor (what he really thinks) but geez did he like anything? Even saying about breaking Lawton in: "I don't know why we bothered." It's like he's determined not to sugarcoat anything. Very critical of many members of the band. But even a couple members had a rather ambiguous attitude. Saying I'm effect,"It's a pretty good album...but.... it's not very good." But oh well. Appreciate everyones' insight.
He left the band in 1979
The Les Humphries Singer
NONE of these albums did well in the U.S., where Heep was slowly forgotten - they became a Euro-band, basically. There were some good tunes on both Firefly and Innocent Victim, but as albums, there was just too much fat.
Sloman was not good in this band and that is a major understatement, he was always trying to be a vocal gymnast from what I can see and it sounds like crap
Gerry Bron is always so negative when talking about Uriah Heep! How could they have been working together for years???
hiprocrites slagging off john lawton he was a far better singer than byron and funny to even if he looked like sid sexist from viz comic and his funny make up dont matter i found byron boring lawton gave a bertter image and sound
Yep !! ...Lawton was the best .
Yep !! ...Lawton was the best .
Lawton was a sweet guy who had indeed some impossible big boots to fill ; one can't blame the Heep organisation going for him due to his great performance on Roger Glover's "Butterfly Ball".( or was it Dio ?)
Sadly though it turned out to be a typical example of mid 70's stagnation,
which just screamed "where are the Sex Pistols"....
Why is Gerry Bron always so darn negative.. he NEVER has anything positive to say about anyone ever. Wow!
This is not a band to be in if you want to be very old .
Whatever happened to original
bass guitar player Paul Newton?
Paul Newton had a nervous breakdown and was replaced by clark then permanently by Gary Thain.
Look at YES 18 years after this - they’re not only a franchise band with a clone of Jon Anderson , they sound laboured and pretty terrible in my opinion. 😮
*R.I.P. Uriah Heep*
*1969 - 1976*
Agree.
MY fav singer…….better voice than Byron
Was he wearin' a wig in 2000s?
Fuck cette musique de David by devid bhhyy
Free Me did not become a hit in South Africa as a anti-apartheid song. People should stop talking nonsense and Nelson Mandela wasn't a saint, like the media always wants to portray him.
Sloman was awful I'm sad to say it's unintelligible.
I do not get the shitting on John Lawton. His voice was just as good as Byron, even though different. But still, he could sing the old songs wonderfully. Criticising his looks seem a low and stupid move to me, but if we really want to go down that road, I do not really think that Byron's image was really much better. He looked like a wannabe '70s porn actor!
Great singer but not a great frontman. After Byron left, Heep was going down... the magic was gone.
I cant stand this mark of Uriah Heep. This was pop music.
Lucifer's Friend YES,,,, Uriah Heep ...... Not even close ... But I guess they wanted a new sound. And I can respect that and Move on like they did-:)
