I first heard John Lawton on the Fallen Angels record, which I got as a sort of "random" record as part of some cut-price deal package from a record club in the mid-80's. Before that, I'd sort of inherited some of my 8 year older uncle's Uriah Heep (David Byron era) records by way of my aunt, his youngest sister. I really loved Fallen Angels, and then got Firefly when all those "Nice Price" records started coming out in the later half of the 80s. I only discovered Innocent Victim a decade or so ago, but by then I'd already discovered so much new music on my own decades earlier, that the new-fangled internet took a while to bring up this "lost" record (for me).
John Lawton, such a lovely rock voice! Unfortunately he arrived when musical talent started to become less important than visual appearance and flamboyancy when performing... Still, one of my enduring all-time favourite rock singers of all time!

I was aware of Heap as a Metalhead since the early eighties, but only being a child of Mt/v and an American, I was just too young. I do remember reading about them in some magazines like Circus. The first time I heard a Heap song was through W.A.S.P and Blackie Lawless was singing it. Much later on through RUclips, I saw the original song and was blown away. They should have hired Blackie, could you imagine that. My final thought on Uriah Heap is they were just too Pop oriented for my metal taste. The song I'm talking about is Easy Living, my favorite song by this group.
