Cargo door was welded shut for IFT4, fuel transfer test happened on IFT3, a new flap design is already in process but will be reevaluated for improvement after this flight, hit stage ring will be built into booster in later designs, etc. lots of exciting stuff. Next flight I hope we see the booster caught at the launch tower and Starship itself enter orbit. We shall see.

John, I think you are right about the flaps but, I think this is the worst possible scenario as they had to stick the landing with only 1/4 orbit to decelerate the craft. I know coming back from the moon will be hot but they should be able to decelerate during several orbits to make the heating extend out over much more time thus decreasing heating by increasing time. If they get to orbit for a day before bringing it down will allow that time.
Good point. And. Even though it was melting. It still worked “good enough” to land vertically.
Also if they did a couple orbits, they could add more fuel and do a de-orbit burn that could slow it way down.

I predict that internal actuators will be used, with full longitudinal strakes and inertially controlled attitude by a pair of single gimbal control moment gyros. (CMG). They weigh less than the four fins and their drive motors

Frankly I think America should stop hogging that sense of patriotism do a joint pact with the UN / ESA etc so we can have that sense of pride over the sense of fear that world is doomed everyday.

Joe. U am not really sure where youvare getting some of your info. Propellant transfer in space was successful on IFT-3, so it was not repeated. There was no test of the door this time- it is being redesigned for new models, and was not ready.

Lets hope that frivolous lawsuits don't chase SpaceX out of the US. The rocket was traveling sub-orbital like an ICBM. However, ICBM's have resolved the heat shield problems at that speed.
I have a feeling it has to do with the mass but I’m not sure.
@@jcristina it is all about friction and not mass. ChatGPT has a fairly good explanation as to why ICBM's don't burn up on re-entry.
The Starship on board views of the flaps heating during re-entry from the Starlink sat comms were/are gonna be epic going forward.
And they will only improve.

I would think that they might try one more water landing first. But it would not surprise me if they did try a catch on IFT5.
A launch from Texas with a landing at the Cape would be even more epic than anything we've seen so far.

Looks like test launches from Texas and actual launches from the Cape Canaveral in Florida.

@@davidcolwell614 Have you ever been to Florida? Do you know where the Space Shuttles landed? They had to fly over land to land in Florida or California. And don't forget BO flys theirs from and lands back in the same state while VG flies theirs up out of an airport and returns to that airport after an aerial launch.
