Entertaining and fun to hear your many stories on the homestead. Your German Shepard deserves a medal and a huge doggy treat for defending against a cougar/bobcat. Look forward to your next video. Glad your "getting it done" creating such a rural haven.

Reagan Lear do a LOT of research before getting a hybrid and especially don’t have one as your first dog. Ideally have a GSD, dobe, husky, akita, or malamute first...and preferably a working one. Hybrids almost always inherit the wild mindset and it is pretty different than a pet’s. You can’t treat them like they’re a dog, that’s when tragedies happen. They can be amazing partners but you need to be extremely careful

On their own, you can't always trust a dog, cameras or your pew pew as separate tools. But combined, they make a great multi-layered defense line. Even if one fails, the other two will still be working.

    Been binge watching…
My great aunt had a female German Shepard and lived in the country. She came up pregnant and had 3 half coyote and half German Shepard pups. We got one of them, named him Jack. He was a great watch dog. He lived for about 14 years. Then we got a German Shepard pup. Her name was Penny. She didn’t belong to us, we belonged to her. She took care of us for 16 years. She was the best!
Dad shot a man trying to break in our house. Now, that’s a story!

  • @fuzielectron5172

Lol, what I took from this video was the word Respect! I had an issue with an immediate neighbour who continually trespassed, we had words about it a "number" of times and he would agree he had no right to do it and it would not happen again. Final time I seen him, I started marching up to confront him while yelling "get your f**king coat off!" When he asked what was going on I explained to him we were going to have a "conversation" about "respect and being a man of your word". No blows were flung but he finally understood I was very serious and by ignoring my reasonable request "repeatedly" he was disrespecting me big time. We have been neighbours now for many years and have always got along fine from that point on, he helps me, I help him.
Gabby is cool, I think she was confused on your brother, lol. I had a large rough collie (Lassie dog) he was a dream, would watch him herd toddlers round and away from the fire pit or anything he perceived as a danger to them, very protective of the family and property and a biter! No screwing around he would go for the arms or leg and have you over if you were lucky and try for the testicles if you weren't. Once put him inside the house when expecting a delivery and he jumped through a closed glass window. If family was around he was a docile baby until a voice was raised to them or a hand lifted at which point he would puff up to twice his size and go full psycho....

Keep up with the stories and maybe some pics with them. thanks. After watching a few of your vlogs I have subscribed. You seem so genuine. I understand about trespassers and their stupid stories, trying to make up a reason for being on posted private property. It is even harder when you are a woman, trust me. No respect. The police don't want to help, one police officer actually told me to just make friends with them and let them park on my property!! I called the Sheriff after that encounter. Of course the officer denied she said it, but still. I do know she is no longer a police officer for the county. Anyway, love your dog. I have a small house dog, and he does alert me to noise etc, but I do need a big dog who would be serious protection. I am working on learning guns. Thinking of getting a concealed carry permit too. I lost my beloved husband 4 years ago, and boy are things different. I haven't felt safe in 4 years. Sad, but true. Good luck to you and yours.

I came home from work one day and a note on my door said your dog is stealing my dogs toys and I work for sheriffs dept,so next day I picked up all the dogs toys even my own cause my dog thinks sticks are better toys. Anyway I put all the toys on her steps and I mean every toy i could find my wife was mad at me ,she spent good money on some. But I thought it was funny. All she had to do was talk to me. But a fucki n note and works for sheriffs office. I had to do it. People are fucke d up. Over a dog you.

A dog that will grab the arm of a friendly visitor who you let into your house is not a good dog. I would not trust this dog unless you did some serious obedience training. We have a big dog that dies run the perimeter if the farm and will protect us but if we indicate the person us ok, the dig us told it us ok, then no problem, he Kay's down nearby to keep watch. If he still gas suspicions he will p,ace himself between me or the grandkids and the stranger, but would not bite or grab unless there was obvious aggression from the visitor . That us a well trained dog. He is 130 lbs and sensible folks know to ask about the dog before assuming he is friendly. He loves the UPS and Fedex folks. As far as poachers, he does the rounds and discourages them, that and me calling the sheriff.

Farmwife as mentioned he was a puppy. He was severely scolded by my husband and his Mother said, "stop, he has only just met me and I grabbed the baby". Since we lived in a town where children had to be carefully protected, she was happy he would not let a new stranger touch his baby. He never bit again and protected Mark until he died.

Hey Dutch, I love your stories! We have 80 acres in Orlando, OK and we've had problems with guys hunting on our place! We confronted them one day & asked them who gave them permission to hunt here and they gave the previous owner's name. We informed them that we now own it & NO ONE is allowed to trespass! That didn't stop anyone even though we put up no trespassing signs. We caught the same guy with a deer he had killed on our place. It was the buck my husband had been keeping an eye on and was going to harvest it at deer season. We held him at gun point until the Sheriff got there! We had told him not to come back and asked him if he saw the no trespassing signs? He said yes but he just had to have that deer. Well, that deer cost him his license, his gun and several thousands of dollars in fines. He has to pay us restitution for taking our property and trespassing! We put a pipe gate up that locks with a key. Its heavy and we've made it so ppl can't push through with their truck! We arent play'n no more! We've caught several young kids jumping the fence to go fishing at out 2 spring fed ponds. Our house is 1/4 mile from the gate but we have a live feed camera set up so we saw them climb over! We escorted them off the property and told them to pass the word around that our property is OFF LIMITS to everyone except for family! We live in a small community and the word spread fast. The next day the Sheriff came out and asked us about the mayor's son being kicked off our property! I told him that I didn't really care who he was! He didn't belong on our property without permission! We haven't had any more problems since! You should definitely make it a priority to put up a gate! Make sure its heavy duty too! Those cattle gates you buy at the feed store wont keep out a cow much less an intruder! Set up a live feed surveillance camera with a motion detector light on it! Good luck with the gate and your homestead! Great videos. Love your stories!

The only dog better for protection is a Doberman. They don't warn, they just take off silent after the trespasser. They bite first then bark! Our friend had 2 of them and the city tried to sue him because the meter reader came into his backyard despite the fact that his fence was posted all the way around and one of his dogs bit the dude! Teach that guy to ignore the signs! The suite didn't work, the city lost!!

Grew up in the country and my father and I hunted small game(rabbits, squirrels, doves, quail). My family had farmed this part of the country for sixty years. We knew every farm family in a fifty mile radius and were welcome to hunt everywhere. Why? Because we always informed the families of our intentions before we showed up and after the hunt we would clean the game to share with the owners. Meat for the stew pot was always appreciated. Things have changed since then and I don't think for the better! Be BLESSED

I adopted him at 18 months old and after only having him for 3 weeks he saved me from being sexually assaulted on one of our nightly walks we took. From then on I knew he was special and not to be messed with. He was total teddy bear around family but an intruder's worst nightmare. I hope to one day own another dog like him but I don't think I'll ever be able to replace

German Shepards are the best. Very loyal too. I had one also many years ago when I had land. Exactly what you said about that breed. Nothing gets past them. Mine knew the perimeter of my land, first thing I did was walk her around it. Her cat, stepped over the invisible line, and she gentally picked him up in her mouth and put him on other side, and nosed him around a bit. He never learned, wandering off, he got into it with a bob cat once or twice, he had received a hairlip and ears and broke tail etc..tough cat and ugly. She was good at holding people hostage that came up, too. I never felt unsafe. She was gental though, and yet loved to help work. She would try to help carry things with me. She'd grab one end, and off we'd go. Good memories. Love watching your channel. Good times you have. Never let the city life catch up with you, and ruin it.

Best guard dog I ever had was my doberman "Voodoo". She never bit anyone , but she would put the fear of God into someone. I lived in an apartment and knew the maintenance guy was coming that day. So I left a note taped to my door telling them that the dog is loose and I would be home after 3pm. I come home at 3:15 and my front door was open and my dog sleeping at the base of an apple tree about 6ft from my door and the maintenance guy was up the tree. She didn't bite him. She also was not allowing him into the place when I was not home

Dutch, keep doing as you wish on your own property. It isn't anyone's business. I can't believe the nerve of some people. They act like they was never taught anything. Just take what they want it doesn't matter to them that they didn't pay for it. I love the stories. Gabby, is such a good girl!

This is exactly the problem I had when I bought my place in the country. People who lived in the area who had been riding their four-wheelers, hunting, etc. didn’t feel like they should have to stop, like they owned the place because they’d been coming there for so long. Across the creek at the back of my property was a hunting club and you would not believe the number of hunters who would cross the creek onto my land to hunt ON my land. I was constantly having to run people off during deer season. And this one took the cake - I actually had somebody build a deer stand in one of my trees. Needless to say, I tore that b**ch down immediately and took the lumber so they couldn’t rebuild it. Finally to say I had more people coming onto my property, people knocking on my door in my first two years there than I’d had in my entire life, combined.

I had a 21 year old guy ride his dirt bike down my mile long private gravel driveway, then come all way up a high hill to my front door! I came out on porch with my shotgun, asked him could he read...he said "of course"...so I asked "Then, you just decided to ignore all the eight no trespassing, private property signs?" He said I couldnt stop him, that nobody should be allowed to own so much land and it should be a park! Then he did a donut in my front yard and took off....I called sheriff...AFTER I SHOT OFF MY SHOTGUN! Two weeks later, I heard that dirt bike coming down my driveway...I drove my jeep to block him while calling 911. He did a u-turn and took off...I followed and hung back, saw him turn in at a farm 10 MILES FROM MY HOME! PISSED ME OFF! Sooo...I ARRIVED at HIS home, while giving address for deputies to meet me there! He was so scared and shocked when I rolled down my window and asked, "How do YOU like it when a stranger comes to YOUR HOME?!" Turns out he was still living with his parents and they had NO IDEA what he was doing...he was supposed to be working at a relative's farm, but was coming to my place to do day of fun on my land, instead! Got charged with two counts of trespassing, folks took dirt bike and put it up for sale to pay for legal fines. Deputies laughed at me for tracking that punk to his own home! He had no idea I was dogging his trail!

Thank you for your service to this country. I loved your story and definitely love Gabby. I have a one year old GSD name Cody. He scares everyone but like Gabby has never bitten anyone. Loves playing with other dogs and is a real sweetheart. Best breed there is. He is my 5th one so far in my lifetime.

  • @SunnieDIY

Yeah German shepherds arent exactly small so they would have to not know you have her lol. Our English Rotty scared people too and he was a total sweetheart. He couldnt fight but he would belly flop on things like cats lol.
My dad didnt realze why people were so scared of our big teddy bear dog until he locked himself out one day and had to break in lol. Turns out he wasnt as gentle giant as we thought he was ready to get him lol. Also guys with screaming kids he gave the look of death to. He was pretty sexist lol if a woman held a baby and the baby cried he was fine but if the dad held a bby and it cried he would growl and look like he was gonna eat the dad lol.
Guard dogs in general get a bad rep. But any dog can guard their family. Ive seen chihuahuas wake big dogs and go after intruders too. Its a pack thing. So to blame Alsatians, rottweilers, dobermans, pitt bulls etc is pretty crappy they are working dogs as much as any farm breed like an anatolian shepherd. They have a job to do.

I can remember when people asked before traipsing across your land, and when permission was revoked they stayed off... of course what better do we expect of people when we have certain assholes in governments thinking our borders are to be ignored, or laws to be ignored... even young people now thinking borders are insignificant (though I bet they think their own "property" oughtn't be trespassed).

    • @fairday2

That is the best place for a big dog. They need the room to play and help out. I live on the edge of town in the town limits, and the police have seen my dogs and know that they are harmless, unless they do something to me. It has never happened. Fed EX still has the audacity to drive into my driveway. Dogs make their own rules and we just have to figure it out. My pekingese that died years ago was a great guard dog. He did bite a few people that bothered me. None had the nerve to report it. They knew that they deserved what they got.

I just had this conversation with a total stranger just the other day about how people do not respect your property, your car or the stuff you keep around your home. They have this attitude of entitlement and to hell with you. Yet, when it comes to their personal belongings its a different story. These people don't have respect for you or me and often they have none for themselves either. When told to stop they feel that it isn't your place to tell them anything. Like you I'm ex-military. As you know it take very little effort to stick a boot in their ass to get them to see things your way. But, it isn't the right way. However, some people seem to respond better when they get their butts kicked.
Now for a criticism. You mentioned your rights to handle your weapon on your property any which way you deem appropriate. You're a ex-Marine. You KNOW BETTER! Gun safety is paramount at all times. Rule NUMBER 1: assume every gun is loaded! You don't point a gun at anything unless you plan on pulling the trigger. Just because you know your weapon is safe doesn't mean that I do. There have been many a tragedy when someone thought that their weapon was safe when in fact it went off and killed someone innocently.
When showing off your weapon, the first thing you should ALWAYS do is demonstrate that the weapon is safe, that is to say, clear your weapon in front of the camera. Make us know that your weapon is safe before going through your demonstration(s). Make sure the chamber is empty. Practice good gun safety at all times, in front of the camera. Teach your subscribers the proper way of handling a weapon. Otherwise, you are just one of those rednecks with a gun showing the world how much you don't know about gun safety. I know you are not that way. So be a good Marine and do it by the numbers, do it right! Do this and I will subscribe to your channel.
