I remember a blogger years ago saying that they had a fence around their garden and then about two feet above that they strung a line with those triangle flags on it to deter the deer. It was a cheaper option than building their fence higher and it tricked the deer into thinking the fence was a lot taller than it really was. it worked for her. I cannot vouch for what it would do for you.

Just found your channel. I have been binge watching and really enjoying the style of your videos. Also the down to earth nature of them.
Congrats on the birth of your grandson.

Congratulations on your new grandson! Looking forward to how the new fencing works out against the deer. I think a lot of your garden will bounce back. Maybe you'll get a chance to show that in the coming weeks or months. Your garden is wonderfully large! I bet it felt even bigger when you was putting up the new netting! LOL Excited about the new outdoor kitchen area. So fun to cook outside and enjoy the fresh air.

Thank you! We miss that little guy already. We needed about 300 feet to get all the way around the garden. Things look like they are making a slow comeback. I’ll definitely be doing some updates.

You have such a beautiful place and you have done a great job on your garden. I hope that netting does the trick, it sure looks like it will. Congratulations twice, first for your new grandson who is the biggest blessing of all and second for your RUclips channel. You do a great job with your videos and I’m enjoying watching them.

Sorry about your garden damage. You are not alone. We're battling woodchucks this year. Congratulations on your RUclips anniversary.

    That's a shame.
I pray that you keep your heart thankful for what you do have and that you'll be blessed with a double portion of things you weren't expecting.

What a beautiful setup!! Im in lower northern MI and thankfully haven’t had the issue with deer this year, (yet 😆) its the bugs that are giving me a run for my money🥴 I’ve been brushing my dogs around the perimeter of my gardens and I think that’s helped to deter critters. Congrats on your new grandbaby!

Last year was bad for me with bugs but those are all gone this year. I think I’d rather battle the deer. 😂.

We would really love to get a dog but it’s just not possible right now with our work schedules. It looks like stuff is making a slow comeback, it’s just frustrating. 😊

Also, I picked up some of the metal netted trash bins and put those over my cabbage, eggplant and kale and I think that’s also helped to keep animals away

Animals in the garden area are never a good thing, but I agree with you. We do live out in the wilderness and it’s going to be expected. The elk herd that hangs around on the eastern slope of Rocky Mountain national Park winters in our backyard. I put up a 5 foot tall, heavy duty, woven horse fence and it does a pretty good job of keeping them out. We have cattle, farm gates at the two entrances to our property and that’s where they go over. But now we see one or two a year get inside instead of 30. I know some farmers that will put two fences up around their garden area. They are separated about 3 feet apart and they’re only 4 foot tall. They have never had any deer or elk get in their yard since then. That’s how my back fence is where the elk come in. I guess they figure they would get caught between the fences and they can’t clear them both so they don’t come in. I’ve never seen the deer netting used that looks like a good system. Let me know how it works. I’m up here this week putting a floor system in our new cabin. Praying that your garden recovers. God bless.

We had the double fence and it seemed to work pretty well until the battery died in the fencer. We were really diligent in keeping it on but they were still going right through it. We were starting to have lots of little critters getting in as well so hopefully this keeps them all out. 😁Looking forward to your next video to see your progress.

@@ADifferentKindofQuiet yeah sometimes those little critters can tear your garden up as much as a deer can. I am up here right now working on the foundation and floor system. It is not as easy putting in those helical piles as the directions show. But I’m getting it done. The good thing about a construction background is when things don’t work like they’re supposed to generally, I can figure out how to get it done anyway.

Our main homestead is in the Northern lower. I wish we could find a way to move it across the bridge. We do spend quite a bit of time in the UP though and would like to retire there. Welcome to our channel! I hope you’ll enjoy our content. 😊

unrelated question - I did not see a single mosquito, what's your secret? just came down from my camp in Maine and got eaten alive, this time of year is terrible

We really don’t have much of a problem here with them because there isn’t any water nearby. At our UP property on the other hand they can be ruthless. 😂
