    It's about the record company executives and how they rip off the artist.
    One of the best songs of that decade. Glad you liked it! 👍❤🤙

    According to the drummer Jim Capaldi the title came from actor Michael J Pollard. Low Spark might mean swag today. High Heeled Boys is in reference to the platform shoes that many people including myself wore back in the 70s

    • @michaelward9880
      @michaelward9880 Год назад +2

      Yeah, I remember those shoes. And yes, it was Chris Wood on sax. I remember he played through some kind of electronic gizmo to give it that sound. Lastly, I prefer the live version of this song from the "On The Road" album. It's about 7 minutes longer but well worth the trip.

    • @furtherdefinitions1
      @furtherdefinitions1 10 месяцев назад +2

      Actually, high-heeled refers to not just the shoes but well monied people with influence and power like the record company execs, who wore the shoes and clothes to appear hip.

      Although Traffic's original Drummer, Capaldi does not play Drums on the "Low Spark...", rather it is legendary and tragic Drum legend Jim Gordon.

    That was Chris Wood on saxophone.
    ( also flute on some of their songs)
    He was incredible.
    Listen to their song, "Glad" or "Tragic Magic" to hear more of Chris Wood, using a wah pedal with his saxophone...
    Amazing song, great reaction on your part. I noticed you vacillating between confusion and wonder for your first listen, which is how many of us first reacted to it as well.

    When this song came out everyone was wearing boots or platform shoes. With platforms it wasn't just the heel but the soul had two to three inches of height as well. Low spark, no ambition.
    The very first time I heard this song was in class. Someone had a boombox. Well okay it was just a AMFM stereo. As class was starting the announcer said he was playing a new song from traffic.
    No sooner did he shut the radio off the teacher was yelling to turn it back on and turn it up so everyone could hear. oh yeah.

    The great Steve Winwood is so underrated - This is Traffic's Starship Trooper or RUSH's 2112. I love Steve Winwood's video sitting fireside singing by himself and a guitar doing his old Blind Faith songs John Barleycorn must die and Can't find my way home. Talk about stripped down to the basics but so damn good!!! His singing is on my mount rushmore for guys.

    Steve Winwood is such a show off lol.
    If you haven't, now go listen to him playing psychedelic electric guitar lead in Dear Mr Fantasy. Then listen to him noodling around with Eric Clapton (Blind Faith) in duel acoustic leads in Can't Find My Way Home. And that voice too.
    The guy had a lot to show off.
    That really high squealing instrument was an organ played through a fuzz box, according to Steve Winwood. Amazing sound.

    Yet another great track from the 70s...there are just so many, it's truly incredible.
    I've mentioned them once before but there is a band named Renaissance that has some really great tracks from the 70s. They are progressive and do utilize orchestral motifs in a lot of their songs. The vocalist Annie Haslam is something special and the musicianship is very high. They DO NOT BLOCK either. Not sure how long of a track you're willing to listen to but their version of "Ashes are Burning" from their Live at Carnegie Hall album from 1976 will be a great one. It's over 20 minutes but so worth it. If you'd like something shorter try "Can You Understand?" from their album 'Turn of the Cards'.
