I was one of them LOL. I always felt like "FSD" was sooo misleading and was very vocal about it. (I just saw this)

CATL is scaling up the production of a new LFP battery that they will warranty for 10 years and 1M miles and only have 30% degradation. And LFP can be charged 0% to 100% without issue.

Putting out an EV fire being difficult, is FUD. They are extremely rare and LFP batteries essentially will not catch fire, unless there is a completely catastrophic accident. Simply training and some new equipment is all that is needed, and it would be good to put out ICE cars with, as well.

I'm an electrical engineer but it doesn't take a degree to answer your lights and sirens draining the battery question. Let's say the lights and sirens use 200W, this would be a very high estimate, id be surprised if they draw this much energy. The Model Y has a 82,000wH battery so it could power the lights and sirens alone assuming there is no other draw on the car for 410 hours or roughly 17 days straight. A gas powered interceptor would run out of gas trying to run the lights and sirens well before a Tesla would.

Thanks for the input. I wanted to bring light to this comment because it wasn’t substantiated by the author and I didn’t want to say “no because I said so”. I don’t know the answer to that. I do know that when I left SENTRI activated on my MYP it would consume a lot of battery.
And of course if you leave emergency equipment on on a ICE patrol vehicle with the engine off, it would deplete the battery very fast but if you were to leave it running it would be many hours before you run out of gas.

You must drive 85 MPH if you are stopping that often for a 1 hour charge.....

I did it all. On our longer trips of freeway only, that would be the math. More or less.
And the route planner was good and in time I got used to overriding the plan to try different things. Not all chargers are available at all times, etc.
The edit is to add: never charged to 100 on trips, but the compounded time of stopping, getting out of the freeway, back on the road, yes. About that and not necessarily driving 85. I’m not heavy footed at all.

The Model-Y is the world's best selling car, the safest car in the world, and is way faster than an ICE vehicle. It is the safest for many reasons but the biggest reason is very important to police - they are nearly impossible to roll over because the battery is low in the vehicle and ways a LOT.

They’re pretty good vehicles. But haters are going to hate 🤷🏻‍♂️

@@JuanCarlosLTO Yep. I guess there was an even more delusion and emotional avoidance of the facts when the transition occurred from horse and buggy to cars? Although, ICE fans seem more attached to crappy inanimate objects than a faithful horse companion.
Oh, the power grid won't be able to handle it...was there not an entire infrastructure largely built in 10 years to allow for mass ICE car adoption? If you are an actual believer in the free market/capitalism, why would you think BEV adoption can't be figured out by business? Regulation can help accelerate but BEVs are a commercial inevitability, regardless.
