you should absolutely wear that exact set of sunglasses anytime you're in a convertible.
all the time
its not that JayEmm thinks he is Tony Stark at all!!
I saw a yellow S2000 and clicked "like" before watching. Nothing like a s2000. Keeping mine.
The sound of that car is fantastic, the manual change allows it to sound like a proper car. The autos and DCTs ruin the overall sound of the car. I love this.
Your description of how the Ohlins feels has been my experience as well. I was giggling like a child the first time I hit a big bump in the road and the more i've driven on my Ohlins, the more I appreciate them. The OEM suspension is no joke either and for the road I'd pick either Ohlins or OEM, just like you're stating.
Wow I like that exhaust, doesn't sound raspy or even like a 4 pot
Best part is, that's the factory exhaust- Honda really got it right :)
@@quest8795 If that is stock and you think it sounds good then you have to do the UK mod to it. Day and night difference. Sounds 2 times better and still no drone at all.
@@NateGigovic what is the UK mod?
@@quest8795 I thought this exhaust was the UK mod
@@muhammadmore it's the standard exhaust- did the UK cars get a different exhaust?
We used ohlins on our supersport bikes back in the early 90's and it was the best ride money can buy.
Loving the Tony Stark glasses!
Tony stark? Or Elton John
S2000 and Ohlins are a match made in heaven 👌
Funny seeing you here! Watching this had me thinking about you and your recent comparison video between the 2 S2000s. As the S2000 pro, what do you think of James’ build?
Does it need any bump steer kit or anything when lowering slightly on Ohlins?
Who else likes those 70's Elton John glasses James has on🤔☺
They look like my vuarnets, they do wonderful vintage styled shades...
@@LaurentiusTriarius I think they are his girlfriends
You’ve convinced me to get ohlins on my s2000. I hope ohlins is able to give you a free set since I’m 1 of your 100k + subscribers that was influenced to buy because of your video.
Makes me miss my 04 that is sitting in storage. The intro alone was enough for me to want to buy a ticket home and give her a spin.
I'm glad your questionable fashion taste extends beyond shirts. Those bins are incredible.
Elton is wanting his goggles back 🤣
@@wpjohn91 My first thought - Elton's hitherto secret love child!
dude wtf
I was lucky to get a very clean low mileage example, even still has factory underseal and is immaculate. Honda s2000 is the definition of "it's better to drive a slow car fast than a fast car slow". It's so well made and so much fun, that screaming 4pot with the roof down feels like nothing else I've ever driven or been driven in. The engine really is a masterpiece and once you get used to the handling it's pretty impressive. Seeing the tasteful work James has carried out here has me debating any upgrades or just leaving it stock.
Brought a smile to my face, if I could give you more than one thumbs-up for the sound recording I would
New and quality suspension, worth ever penny in my book. Ohlins, nice choice.
Well its about time
Had a 2004 GT, I thought the absolute sweet spot for S2000’s, as it was the AP2/EU revised version however you wanna phrase it, but not before they switched to the electronic throttle and some later tweeks. Brought it with me when I moved to Spain and it was like it was reborn. Remarkable car.
S2000s are ace. Mine is scruffy and track focussed and horrible and slow in a straight line by modern standards. It's also one of the best cars I've ever had. Thanks for the vid Jay.
Wanted 1 of these for as long as i can remember, but every time the opportunity arise i opted for something else.
Like you I have sampled everything from 1971 fiat 500s to v10 rs6's with 700 hp.
Gone through phases of Sierra rs500 escort cosworths mk1 golf gti's porsche 911's to lotus elises and back again in fact my back catalogue would almost be an A to Z list.
Alas 10 miles down the road from home , and not having to make another 5 hour round trip across the Great British isles I found my poison.Step forward a pristine ap1 early 2000 model silver with red leather 28k from new S2000. All I can say is what a machine everything to hand in the cockpit a slick rifle like gearbox and a car that gives you everything you need through the steering wheel it's a joyous thing to drive and now finally own.
6:32 The way the grass catches the backdraft of the S2K... Such a cool shot.
One of the most beautiful cars in my opinion. Would love to eventually own one at some point 😁
There is nothing like a well-sorted S2k, can't wait to see and hear what it's like with the ITB's. It already sounds incredible, I think you have an exhaust mod? I really miss mine, it was a 2005, the last with a cable throttle control, great car.
I have a 2005 triple black S2000. Fantastic car! 🇺🇸🇬🇧
Sitting down in my turbo 10gen civic on a sunny day and I must say I love the sound of the s2000
Nothing better than a VTEC on song
I like how Jay feels it's improper to wear the sunglasses while talking to camera. I think that's what that was about anyway.
I heard something about a ban on sunglasses that are too tinted in UK
I think that’s what he meant by it
No, eyes are the window into the soul. Sunglasses are a way of hiding your emotion
Nice video, love the car. Still couldn't be happier with my S2000. Just made my first s2000 friend the other day😅
Really enjoying this build as a Honda head👍 enjoy watching you hooning it around the country Roads makes me want to get my fn2 and go out for a drive, I love the sound of VTEC forever 🤣
A little sports 2 seater, Alpine roads, a little 60's mellow driving music (On days like these by Matt Monro (opening music to the Italian job for those that dont know) jay, at the wheel with those glasses and the hood down with wafty hair.
Now theres an image that could write a thousand words.
Loving the S2000 bud!
Thanks James great car S2000
The guys at Öhlins know their stuff.
From North Carolina, The Honda S2000 ROCKS ❗
So happy to see this car getting the love it deserves
That sound is just heavenly!
Nailed the engine sound and sense of speed with this one👍 Great stuff.
The Honda Vtec engine is glorious and only 4 cylinders. Its sounds fantastic.
Ohlins are top banana.
This channel keeps getting better and better along with the car guys these channels are the ones to follow.
S2000, and now in stereo. If I could like twice, I would.
I had one.... and I do miss it. I might get one again and do this + supercharge it.
I miss your S2000 James 😢
Come on mate give it some love ❤️
Ooh, you're making me miss my old S2K...
The best car channel alongside Doug and Mat from Carwow I think. Well spoken, measured, considered and philosophical car driving and modding. Thankyou. Can’t wait to see the Toda head, pretty much a dream level mod.
Had a prelude 2.2 VTEC as a lad , bloody loved it . No where near as nice as an S2000 though admittedly . My prelude was black and thanks to motorworld was the only prelude type R I've ever seen !! 🤣
I’ve owned 2 S2000s admittedly a few years ago now and would have another in a heartbeat, far from the perfect car but all the better for it.
I sold my first one a NFR 2001 model in 2008 and instantly regretted it so immediately bought a mint super low mile 2005 Berlina Black GT, damn I wished I’d kept that one 🙁
Lovely s2k, I’m purchasing a Clio RS 200 tomorrow. I’ll probably get in contact with you soon to see if you want to to a video on it.
I was thinking about this S2000 just the other day lol.
I like the direction this is going. I had one for 6/7 years, biggest changes you can make are the seats, I didn’t like the standard ones they don’t hold you in at all, and i changed all the bushes. Changing the rear toe arms might be a good shout to get rid of the weird prefacelift toe changes. They like to rotate under rear suspension droop which only helps with fishtailing if you panic and lift off.
Magnificent sounding engine!
Sounds and looks wicked! Glad to hear the handling has improved since I last drove it. Still, was a bundle of fun then. Looks like even more fun now!
Those sunglasses are killer.
Thanks J, extra works looking & sounding good!
Cool stuff shown! Excited for the next vid in this series, this one was very well made and explained
For an everyday car the ohlins DFV is as good as it gets. Once you try them your next car purchase will be based on the ohlins catalogue.
Ohlins always makes top drawer stuff for motorcycles, so it's no surprise the can do the same for cars.
The intro, the yellow car and the glasses. 10/10
Love the s2000
man what an intro! Sounds great!
great video, thanks for sharing. I have a limited budget, so on my S2000, I put BILSTEIN B14 PSS COILOVERS, Michelin Pilot Sport tires (front) 225 45 17/ (rear) 255 45 17 on 2004-2006 Honda factory 17" rims. Spoon Front and Rear Subframe Collars. new OEM brakes / rotors/SS lines. My S2000 drives nice and predictable. It no longer drives spooky.
Dude your videos are such good quality they are definitely worth the wait
Sounds glorious!
They really are wizards, the Centre Gravity people. Pete rebuilt my suspension last year and transformed my tired old car into a weapon I can lean on hard. Shame I couldn't be in the car with him when he was testing it, due to Covid restrictions. I hear that's usually a wild ride and people go "I didn't know my car could do that". I could only look at all the advanced driving certificates in the super cool customer room and imagine... Anyway, feel and confidence have massively increased and my car is a bit more comfortable and feels tighter too. Cost about the same as your rebuild, but it was totally worth it. I also found it takes a little time to fully appreciate all the changes.
I’ve owned an 03 AP1, what a great car !!!
Unless the springs are cracked, lower 'stance' is not due to metal fatigue.
Ohlins transform EVERY car!
Thanks for all the content.. glad you are happy with the progress so far.
Subtle but significant brake upgrade is the accord type r (and possibly from the Legend I think) twin pot calipers. It's what I've got on my yellow S2K! Looking forward to the next vid! :-)
I love the fact you're thraping this car in the intro, you can tell you own this one :D
Glad to see Elton John found a hobby in retirement
Ohlins FTW
Oooh - that introduction certainly welcomed headphone listening :)
Cannot wait to see the engine work. :)
Love the intro of you hauling ass through the countryside. lol
Nice! 🇬🇧 🇺🇸
Good to see the latest update, hearing it screaming away makes me realise I need to pull my finger out on mine (much more rust than yours 😅)
Same thoughts with the Ohlins DFV kit (just fitted to my e46 M3) improvement over standard but not worth the outlay if your standard stuff is in good order!
Looking forward to seeing/ hearing the ITB’s on 👌
Was thinking of your s2000 while watching this. 😂
@@dickie8184 I’ve ordered a seat after watching this 😅
The s2000 is just sublime
These things were fantastic. I was always sad they weren't a bigger seller, but I guess the price tag hurt it's appeal slightly (costing about £28k when new in the early 2000's) against the cheaper MX5 (starting at £19k) but for me, this rev happy little car is the best Japanese roadster of the lot.
Our partner at Vint-tro has a S2000, we’ll be telling him to get that exhaust, sounds amazing. And that colour combo 👌🏼
ITB's on that motor are going to sound awesome!!
I really don't understand how most people in the comments consider an S2000 a "slow" car... Of course it doesn't have the low-end torque of a modern turbo engine but when you rev it up it definitely goes. I mean, is it really that only something that goes from 0 to 60 in under 4 or even 3 seconds is fast? I have driven for example an RS e-tron GT (electric..) which went 3 seconds 0 to 60, but after this I drove my S2000 and it was and is just so much more fun and definitely does not feel slow. In the end, it is not always about the power, but about the nature of the delivery :)
This video has a lot going for it! The S2000 and it’s wonderful exhaust note, the beautiful weather and scenery, the technical info nicely delivered about the suspension.... even James’ sunglasses, BUT I defy anyone that does not say their favourite part of this video was “I can’t see Dickhead” 😆
That and the pause on piece to camera just to appreciate the revs to redline :)
@@bigben5246 Definitely!!
You need a CAI James they transform the sound of the car far more than an exhaust which I find tend to be too loud on the S2000, the CAI noise is absolutely intoxicating, I was doing a track day at Oulton when my first S2000 had a K&N FIPK and I literally had dozens of people asking what made it sound so good, post 6000rpm it sounds unreal.
Love the opening soundtrack 👌
I have Ohlins DFV on my Suzuki Swift Sport Jay (along with a few other nice mods to free up a few more ponies and improve the gear change). Absolutely sublime!
I think Ohlins is as good as it gets for road and most track day use on an S2000. Motons, JRZ, Penske Racing were amongst highest end when S2000 was new, some of those companies got absorbed into some other companies since then, for those you are basically paying for 3/4 way adjustable, you really need to know what you are doing with the set up on the track, otherwise you are just wasting money. Another plus for Ohlins is that it is one of the lightest in the market, which reduces significant amount of unsprung weight. For brakes, you should go for 4pot front and 2pot rear AP racing, with floating rotors, and steel braided lines. You can switch fluid and pads for track day use.
I like your wheel choice James, FWIW which isn't much I know, but in keeping with the JDM theme I have to say you missed out with the rims! There's ALOT of great looking JDM rims out there...just sayin'😉
I put the same Ohlins DFV coil over on my FD2R Civic Type R. For me the transformation was immediate but I guess its also due to the fact the the FD2’s suspension is damped pretty hard as stock. Like you I really love the new kit. So may I suggest another item you should consider I.e. the Spoon rigid collar. This is an item you fit into the subframe and ensures perfect alignment of your subframe. There’s also a rigid collar for your steering mounts. After I put this on the FD2, what was great became even better. I’m not kidding. You can feel the suspension worked better and I just felt way more confident on fast tight sweepers. I guarantee you won’t be disappointed. Try it!
I have ordered both of those products already!
Enjoying this series, proper job with the choice of parts thus far 👍
That opening 😍😍
You really need to get the underside rust proofed as well.
❤️ the car, ❤️ the ultra cool sunglasses and ❤️ the project
A dream car to drive let alone own 😍 amazing work on the car, sounds like it's coming along very nicely
I'm ready for the Toda ITB update already!
Waiting on them to be fitted, it's at the garage now
Simply gorgeous. Compliments.
Fast forwarded to s face shot just to see what all the fuss was about the sunglasses....it was warranted ☺️ looking forward to this Jay...I'm weighing up a set of DFVs against some (much cheaper) Meister Rs
13:51 😄
Wow,sounds great,looks great.enjoy!!
What a great episode ...... sounded epic. Good stuff indeed.
13:50 that really cracked me up. That's me on the road haha. Typical thing bikers & sports cars owners say when lorries/tractors get in the way on a nice drive.
Great stuff love these motors
Glad you are enjoying the car. Stick some ps4 Michelins on there next. It's a handling mod in its own right. What did you notice about the chassis bracing? Any difference?
Lovely car
Tremendous setup, very well done
