I agree on Ben. He gets no redemption from me. And he's proven himself to be a bad boyfriend regardless of the gender of the person he's dating. Imogen absolutely wins episode 4. Not only did she break up with Ben, but she ALSO got a giant Nick Nelson hug afterwards. Definitely a win.
Which honestly makes sense. If he really only speaks to his dad a couple of times a year it would make sense that his French isn't perfect... But to someone who doesn't speak French he sounds pretty fluent! I think Kit did a wonderful job with his accent work in this season... Though I did have really high hopes for him... Because he is a cast member that has more of a career and therefore probably more money than the majority of the other cast members and therefore he could afford to hire a really good accent coach for this role.... And I think that's exactly what happened. Which is wonderful ...because accent work is NOT easy to do!!

He wasn't acting like himself because he doesn't have confidence that anyone could actually like him for who he is (as he opens up to Nick about here), so he was putting on a persona, "the Romantic Lead" and so he was acting to some imagined script on "what a perfect date should look like" (her fav movie even tho he hates it and shittalks it, buying them ALL the fixings to impress even tho it was more food than they could deal with or comfortably even sit with, canned 'date' dialogue, dramatic public proposal, getting a haircut even tho it went against his own preferences, being awkward and stiff about things they used to do without issue (talking, holding hands, spending time together)). All of these things he's doing because he thinks he needs to be a Perfect version of himself otherwise he'll fail, but the thing that the whole thing is getting at is that the relationship won't work if people aren't able to be themselves together and feel comfortable in that. Heartstopper believes in loving people for who they are ("I love you because of how annoying you are" as an example from the same ep) and attempts to be 'perfect and idealized' versions of themselves for each other will always get in the way of true intimacy and connections (as we see in every major couple's storyline this season). as Elle explains, "If we're going on a date we should do something we /both/ enjoy". The subtext being, if this relationship is going to work, they need to be themselves together, and not just doing things because they think that's what "the perfect partner/date/etc would be like". We're even given the art museum date with them as an example of what a date with them being themselves actually looks like and they get along well, they joke, they enjoy each other's company, they aren't trying to be 'cool' or 'perfect'. Like it's not surprising that Elle is shown with the butterflies while watching Tao be his goofy self because it was him actually acting like himself instead of the stiff, reserved and cool version he was trying to project with the movie-date.

Indeed you couldn't get enough of Heartstopper after watching it over and over again. The whole cast did a spectacular job with their roles once more.
