There's hundreds of things to love and discuss in this season, but I think the Ben and Darcy's storylines are so important. They each have parents that will not accept who they really are, but look at how Darcy loves wholeheartedly, while Ben lashes out at everyone. Having a shitty home life is terrible, but how they each deal with it says a lot about their character as people. And YES, the emotional whiplash was masterful in S2. Over and over again. You have Charlie passing out, immediately followed by the Tao/Elle first kiss, then the wonderful found family prom party, followed by the gut wrenching, heartbreaking reveal of just how deep Charlie's pain goes. And they do it all in only 4 hours!! I don't know how they do that, but it's perfection. I'm assuming by your reactions that you haven't read the comics. All I'll say about S3 is make sure you have tissues handy!

It really is great to have the characters to compare. Though I think while they both have parents who couldnt accept them, in the parent teacher meeting Ben's parents seem very proud. It could be that pride is part of what makes him self hate and fearful as its the threat to that pride. Where are Darcy, the fear and hate come from mom. That probably contributed her to the way she is. Most of the kids I know who had bad home lives viewed school and joke as freedom. Its where they were able to breath and the releif of that was its own kind of mood lift, especially when your never feeling entirely secure at home. Its easier to embrace the good when you have that shrowd gone. Also, we dont know what the situation with dad or extended family is. Even if they are not in her life now it could be they gave her what she needed while she was to survive her mother without becoming jagged like Ben. Sorry if that doesnt make sense. Im very tired right now lol
Every time I see in the show about Darcy's background (mostly in the show because they explore it a bit more), I cry. While my mother isn't that extreme, she's really controlling about what I wear (and homophobic and transphobic, which is why I'm closeted for both my gender and sexuality), and the interaction between Darcy and her mum only differs from interactions I've had with mine in the fact that my mum ends up moping and damn near crying and I feel bad and I give in to what she wants me to wear. It's really hard to live with someone like that.
I know it may be an unpopular opinion but i always feel so bad for Ben. I do not condone nor agree with any of his actions but it must be awful to hate youself/who you are so much, and to think that your family would not accept you. idk, i feel for him. Hope he grows into a nice young person and learns from his mistakes
The scene in ep2 when Nick & Charlie are making out so openly in the park? They’re lying beside the same tree trunk from s1 when Nick pulled away from kissing Charlie because a str8 couple were passing nearby with their dog and Nick was scared of being seen. It’s these perfect little moments that show such care and attention to the show’s story and character development that make me love Heartstopper so much.

I think the thing with Imogen jumping in while Nick was trying to tell her is that we as the audience know he wanted to tell her and thats where the conversation is going for a fact. However she has no real knowledge that that is what he is trying to say, she is just assuming and then took the choice to say it herself, taking it away from him. If that wasnt what he was going to say in that moment and she assumed wrong, then she has just outed someone who wasnt trying to tell her that is the problem
I think it is difficult and will depend on the moment, for me having that person help give you the push would have helped ease the pressure (as long as it seemed supportive). I disagree that it would be outing him, because she asked is it about that. If he wasn’t ready, he could have shut it down (this happened to me OFTEN HAHA) and it’s in a private conversation. I understand he’s taken a big step in preparing for this moment, but it sucks that we still need to “come out” I’d love for there to be no need for the conversation at all :)

I understand what you're saying, but there's ways to do it without you taking charge and putting someone in the position to have to decide if they lie to you if they're not ready yet to confirm it. Like flagging that it's safe for you to tell them when you're ready, or you can see how special this person is to them and you're happy about it without putting the person on the spot to confirm or deny anything until they are ready to say the words themselves
@@EdibleStars369 I think one thing that so many conversations about this show forget is that, despite how mature and self-aware they seem, these are just kids. 15, 16, 17 years old tops. Yes, Imogen jumped in and made an assumption, but really, how many other 16-year-olds would do the same thing? Tons. Many people *never* develop that level of self-awareness and mindfulness of themselves or others, and when you're young and still figuring out life and relationships, well, you're going to make mistakes. And then hopefully learn from them.

I still dont know how we are expected to accept that after discovering the hickey there wasnt a group text so they could figure out how to cover it up either by borrowing some makeup or a turtle neck or a scarf? Elle is artistic and fashionable. Even if they didnt have a scarf she would know there are things you can fold, twist, and tie to work as one. This is a group that looks out for eachother and are willing to step up and problem solve for one another. I cant see them not figuring this out. The whole episode ends up bugging me since so much of the drama is from that hickey and there were other ways that you could make the same plot points happen. Plus, the grouphelping is the kind of found family/warm friend feels so many of us want from the show. Beyond that issue of mine I love the season. My depression was hitting me hard when season 2 came out. I took to watching seaosn one and two, one after another, either actually sitting to watch or in the background, over and over cause it could make me feel a little better. I had to make myself stop rewatching it cause the more I did the more things started to bug me a bit and the hickey thing came to bug me more. Im so excited to rewatch again then take on season 3.

Super dangerous way of thinking but depression is cruel. Love this show for queer representation along with great mental health rep.

yeah i agreed haha... but it was obviously gone about the wrong way, she had something against charlie so she wanted to control their relationship. She didn't say he's not allowed to see his friends, it was just initially nick... because she didn't like he was "sporty" HAHA
I personally was not as much of a fan of season 2. I also wish they didn't make almost every character gay. unrealistic and minimizes what the characters go thru when they are no longer the minority. Jmo
They just showed their group as gay and its not even just gay. Their group is itself an lgbtq community. There's one Trans, one gay, 2 bi's, 2 lesbians. Tao is straight and and Isaac is most probably ace, we don't know about Imogen. So how can everyone be gay. We knew about art teacger already, rugby one makes sense and Mr Farouk is probably new addition to school. And It is quite realistic. There is always a gay group in school because then they can stick together. So its relatable.
Firstly, season two was five times better than season one. Better Production., better acting and better editing. Secondly, it might not be realistic to you, but it’s meant to be idealistic I’m showing life through a positive lens . For 40 or 50 years every queer program on TV in the developed world has included something about misery or tragedy or sadness. So you might not think it’s very realistic but it’s showing young people in particular what life could be like and showing the people who are older who did not get to enjoy this kind of life,what they have missed out on.. realism doesn’t come into it. And just because it is a group of LGBTQ plus people and therefore in their own friend group they are no longer in the minority does not mean they have stopped facing prejudice or hate.. if you watched it until the end you would’ve seen what happened with Darcy‘s mother. You probably need to rewatch it.
Idk it's pretty realistic for queer friend groups. U tend to gravitate towards other gay ppl, before even realizing. Me and my friend group are all queer and none of us knew when we met.

Sorry, but in episode 2, I'm totally on Charlie's mom's side. She's not banning him from seeing Nick. She's saying, do your damn homework and you can see your boyfriend. Then he's sneaking out... yeah, you're grounded. DO YOUR DAMN HOMEWORK AND YOU CAN SEE YOUR BOYFRIEND! What is so hard to understand about that?
yeah i agreed haha... but it was obviously gone about the wrong way, she had something against charlie so she wanted to control their relationship. She didn't say he's not allowed to see his friends, it was just initially nick... because she didn't like he was "sporty" HAHA

I personally was not as much of a fan of season 2. I also wish they didn't make almost every character gay. unrealistic and minimizes what the characters go thru when they are no longer the minority. Jmo
They just showed their group as gay and its not even just gay. Their group is itself an lgbtq community. There's one Trans, one gay, 2 bi's, 2 lesbians. Tao is straight and and Isaac is most probably ace, we don't know about Imogen. So how can everyone be gay. We knew about art teacger already, rugby one makes sense and Mr Farouk is probably new addition to school. And It is quite realistic. There is always a gay group in school because then they can stick together. So its relatable.
Firstly, season two was five times better than season one. Better Production., better acting and better editing. Secondly, it might not be realistic to you, but it’s meant to be idealistic I’m showing life through a positive lens . For 40 or 50 years every queer program on TV in the developed world has included something about misery or tragedy or sadness. So you might not think it’s very realistic but it’s showing young people in particular what life could be like and showing the people who are older who did not get to enjoy this kind of life,what they have missed out on.. realism doesn’t come into it. And just because it is a group of LGBTQ plus people and therefore in their own friend group they are no longer in the minority does not mean they have stopped facing prejudice or hate.. if you watched it until the end you would’ve seen what happened with Darcy‘s mother. You probably need to rewatch it.
Idk it's pretty realistic for queer friend groups. U tend to gravitate towards other gay ppl, before even realizing. Me and my friend group are all queer and none of us knew when we met.
