They were bathing in tomato juice, which supposedly gets rid of skunk smell. The dog jumped up on the table and started to examine him. After a while the dog seems to understand what had happened, and it jumped down from the table. The dog was no longer in a state it was relaxed and calm. No longer stressed out that the dog could not find his owner. An older couple wanted to take care of it so it had a new life enjoying himself did what dogs normally do before it died many years later. I can't help but thinking that they should have done the same thing with Hachi trying make him understand what have happened.

Ms. Dawn, thanks for another great video .. .. Hachi's statue is so well-known in Tokyo that everyone meeting others @ Shibuya Station all say that they'll meet @ Hachi .. .. People still leave treats & wishes by his statue .. .. There needs to be a movie about the homeless dog in Rio de Janeiro that chose a visiting Lufthansa flight attendant to be his special person and waited outside her crew hotel until she came back .. .. You've always been one of my favorite RUclips reaction channels. I think now you've become my favorite human. I was sobbing along with you the whole time.
When I was a kid a skunk got stuck in my school's window well and sprayed. The whole first floor of the school smelled so bad they had to close for the day. I guess it smells kind of like gasoline or petrol but worse. In the movie they were washing it off in tomato juice, that's how it's usually done.
I gave a dog (german Shepherd x Deer hound) a new home he needed, I had him for the last 5 year's of his life. He would be waiting for me everyday I got home, I gave him a choice of being indoors or outdoors each morning when I left for work. On the last day it was a nice day and he decided to stay outside. When I got home he wasn't at the door and I found him in the back garden laying with shallow breaths when I touched him he opened his eyes, I called my brother to help me get him to a vet (I only had a motorbike) by the time he got there 15 minutes later he had passed. He fought and waited until I got home to say goodbye, Major was the best friend I ever had.
At least you got to see him in his final moments. When we lost our first greyhound Maisie, I was stood outside the vet with Mac (but I did get to say goodbye to her previously) while the others were in there with her. One year later there was a time where I’d had really bad sleep for some nights and the night I’d recovered was the night Mac died too. I woke up to several text messages and calls telling me he’d taken ill, was really weak etc and they had to get him put down. I swear I would’ve went to the vets and been right there with him too if only I was awake, but I completely understand they didn’t want him to suffer (me neither) just to wait for me. I just thought about all that again reading this. At least I said goodbye to him as if it was the last time I’d see him EVERY day, because I’d always made such a fuss about him, both of them for that matter. And babysitted him every time he came round to stay at my “kennel”. Still miss them both to this day, same with our rabbits before them aswell
There was also the days I saw him before he died, I saw how weak he was and they said he wasn’t eating, or took anything they offered him. But when I came around I offered him some fish and he did eat it 😭😭. They always said he was my dog though, we were best buddies we were like that 🤞. I still feel bad for not being there at the vet, but not as bad as I would’ve felt if I didn’t spoil him throughout his life, or neglected him or something

After the skunk, they were washing with tomato juice. It's a common "old wives' tale" that it helps to remove the odor, but in my experience it just makes you smell like tomato and skunk -- and, if your dog is white, it may also dye their fur a pink or salmon color! 🦨🍅
I think our human chemistry creates odors that dogs detect. What's most remarkable is that dogs' brains seem wired to be cross-species translators. They can get along with soooo many other critters, including many humans.
Cats detect them also, a cat can sense when a person is close to dying because in the last few days or whatever leading up to death the human body releases different smelling chemicals or something and cats can smell that.
He gave him the ball because he wanted to keep him there because he sensed something so he thought if he played 😊fetch, the man wouldn’t go and would stay home and then his wife might of been able to sense something because of the dogs behaviour and get him to doctors or something

I adopted my dopey dog Rufus about 16 mos. ago when he was 4 mos. old. He turns 2 y.o. in April and he is already over 80 lbs. He is the sweetest dog on the planet and loves every person and dog he meets. I have had 3 dogs of my own, and my family always had dogs. I agree that dogs are the best things on this planet. Richard Gere is a good actor.
I had just lost my first Akita (old age) and had a new Akita puppy when this movie came out. I heard it was a movie about an Akita and I was super excited to see it. My friends told me not to. I went anyway and I still wish I didn't. This movie seriously broke me because I could really see my Akita being that loyal dedicating his whole life to wait for me or my family to return even if we never would. I didn't know it was a true story until the end, but I sat there the whole time thinking 'Holy crap, this could be me and Shinobi; he was exactly like this." I decided then that I would not die before my new Akita so Yukiko would not suffer like Hachiko did.

The saddest/happiest dog movie ever except for “Red Dog,” an Australian doggo movie. I hope you watch it sometime. This is proof how much I love your channel because this movie makes me cry every time.
They built another statue a few years ago, but this one is in tokyo university, prof ueno’s university. The statue infront of shibuya station is of hachi waiting faithfully infront of the entrance, as u saw in the credit scene… But the statue in tokyo university is of hachi reuniting with a smiling prof ueno🥲🥲🥲
This was such a well made adaptation of a true story. There are so many stories of animals that amaze us every day. Dawn, there is a similar real story made into a movie long ago about a little terrier in Scotland. I won't spoil it for you, in case you want to find it. The movie is called Greyfriar's Bobby.
I think dogs know when it's time for you to come home from work because when you leave the house your smell lingers in the house and gradually goes down during the day and they eventually learn that when the smell drops to a certain level you come home
I luv this movie! I luv dogs and this movie about hatchi's loyality is so heart breaking and at the same time heart warming ❤️ thanks for sharing Dawn Marie ❤️💛
You'd enjoy watching, at some time, the Japanese film about Hachi, _Hachiko Monogatari_ (The Tale of Hachiko) (1987). It directly tells the story of Hachi, with excellent actors playing the humans in his life. There is also a 2023 Chinese film of the story.
This version was filmed in Woonsocket, Rhode Island. There is a statue of Hachi at his spot watching the train station door. People from around the world visit for photos....
It’s very similar to the “Greyfriar’s Bobby” story in Edinburgh. Same type of story. I’ve been to the Bobby statue in Edinburgh, but I would really like to see the Hachi statue in Tokyo.
There is a statue of Hachiko outside Shibuya Station that I visited. It's known as a place to wait for people you're meeting. The real Hachiko was actually taxidermied and is a museum now.
Hey pretty eyes! ( Dawn ) This is such a beautiful and at the same time, very sad story that has been told so well. Dogs, as well as many other animals have so much more to them than some realise. What I love the most is that we can connect with them as they do us. It's worth remembering though that many if their actions are different to those we humans do. Often people project on a pet what they think the dog/ cat is thinking or feeling but can often be a very different experience for the animal itself. It is clear that you have a beautiful caring heart Dawn, never let anything in life change that about you. Have a good day little lady, take care hun. ❤
A great heartwarming movie. I love that you mix up the types of films you watch. Maybe a comedy next? 'Skin Deep' is hilarious. Then maybe another drama. Horror. And on and on.
Very good movie very very heartfelt .another true love story . So it's been years since I've seen it ,but this like opening Old Wounds. A very heartfelt video reaction from you young lady.
10:15 Dogs can see blue and yellow, but not red. They're naturally red-green colorblind (which happens to also be the most common type of color blindness in humans).
If you are in US, you can see a replica of the Hachi statue at 1 Depot Square, Woonsocket, RI 02895. It is the location that was shown as the train station in this movie.
Didn't want to watch this reaction because I knew I was going to cry, but gave in because I wanted to see your reaction. It is absolutely heartwrenching how he kept coming back to the station for the rest of his days waiting for his dad to come back. Dogs have unconditional love, they truly are man's best friend. And yet you get people who are so cruel towards dogs. Hachico, My Dog Skip, Eight Below... I ball like a five your old in all of them.
I love dog movies, happy or sad. I have three, a Vizsla pointer, a Husky/Wolf mix and an Akita, so this movie is near and dear to me. My wife and I watched it in 2011, in the summer of 2012 we were told she had less than 2 years to live. In December of 2012 she gave me Rusty (the Akita),so I would have something to care for me when she no longer could. They are fiercely loyal dogs and very protective. In fact, right now, my other two dogs are sleeping in the kitchen and Rusty is at my feet. Now, you should watch, A Dogs Purpose 2017 (#1), A Dogs Journey 2019 (#2), Rescued by Ruby 2022, and A Dogs Way Home 2019 (which is a lot like Homeward Bound). That would round out my top 5 dog movies!
I felt a little evil watching you at the beginning knowing you were about to be crushed. Dogs are love in its purest form, even more than we know. Great reaction, Cheers.
Dogs totally know what’s going on. I’m positive my dog realized my gma had cancer before anyone else did. She had lung cancer and when she wasn’t feeling good I’d put cocoa up next to her but she’d crawl across her chest. Also, my aunt was visiting once and passed out in our kitchen. She said cocoa barked at her til she woke up. And cocoa wouldn’t leave her side after that. My aunt finally went to the hospital and we found out she had a perforated bowel and was taken into surgery immediately. When she came home coca was less vigilant but still showing more than usual attention to her. Sure enough she had a fever, went for a checkup and ended up needing another surgery for her gal bladder just a few days later. Surgeon figured it was because she’s diabetic and we don’t always heal like usual. Cocoa never had any kind of training to detect anything she was just that smart. I miss her a lot.
"What's it smell like? Is it really that bad?" Yeah, skunk spray is pretty bad -- kind of what natural gas smells like (because of what they add to help with leak detection). But the real issue is the smell is tenacious. It's nearly impossible to wash off your skin, and you'll be smelling it for days afterward to the point where you think it must be all in your head -- and maybe by that time it is!
I'm pulling for you to have that life with the 1 cow and the chickens and the many, many dogs. People will come from everywhere to love you and your dogs.
When i saw the title, i knew the crying was about to start. After watching this, pib did a parody where she cried a river watching grass grow, or paint dry, i am not the sort of guy that enjoys watching a woman cry.

Not only did I cry a million tears during this reaction, I got the biggest laugh at your reaction to seeing Richard Gere's name in the credits! LOL. Can't say he's my fave either! (He was, however, great in one of his earliest films, "Days Of Heaven" from 1978). This movie is reaction video gold! All I want is to pet a dog right now!
Though it's too obscure for a reaction video, you should watch 2022's "The Dog" starring Channing Tatum as a soldier who was discharged from the U.S. Army Rangers because of a brain injury who has take a military dog to the dog's human partner's (and Tatum's Army buddy's) funeral. Mental trauma from combat and the death of her human have made the dog unstable and unmanageable, and Tatum is supposed to take her to be put down after the funeral. As they travel together across the United States to get to the funeral sharing adventures and misadventures along the way, the soldier and the dog bond and help each other deal with their physical and emotional wounds. Some people say the movie is overly sentimental, but if you love dogs and like stories about overcoming trauma, you'll enjoy this movie.
Skunk spray smells incredibly bad and incredibly strong. There's no way to describe it. Well, maybe. Marijuana smoke can smell kind of skunky, but actual skunk smell is probably a thousand times that strong. And it doesn't just wash off in the shower. One thing that's supposed to help is bathing in tomato juice. Not sure why.
"The Art Of Racing In The Rain" ..please give this amazingly under-rated movie a watch. it's about a race car driver and his dog ..who also loves fast cars
I think Richard Gere is not an action movie actor. I've seen him in 4 or 5 movies : "Pretty Woman", "Runaway Bride" (Both with Julia Roberts), "Unfaithful", "Nights in Rodante" (both with Diane Lane) and this one. No sci-fi or thriller or action. But he's a great actor.
Like the man said it's got to be a purpose why the dog will fetch. And he knew what was wrong with him. he could smell it. Dogs have a better sense on things than us humans before we know things it's too late to do anything about it. The one I love about dogs Is there pure and loyal but there not driven by greed or hate like humans. They don't act human they are loyal and good companions. And will be there for you. As long as you treat them good, they will be good back to you. I love how smart they are too how to train to for recuse and helping out others.
I saw what you were reacting to and having seen it decided "Nope. I don't have the emotional bandwidth today. Can't do it." I left a thumbs up, and this comment. See you next time, Dawn.
Taking in unwanted pets so they dont get put down sounds like it'd be easy to run a sanctuary. Once you get too many, there's gonna be too many for a single pack, they'll fracture into groups. Then the problems will start. Then you'll need to run things like the places you're trying to keep them out of, unless you're constantly there and run it like a ranch farm.
14:30 - Scoop, skunk smells like... SKUNK the weed... It's the exact same smells, the first time I smelled a real Skunk, I didn't know it was the animal, I thought someone was smoking my favorite strain of weed... And it gave me craving for a good skunk joint... What a delicious smell :D ...
This is the year I plan on joining the pattron team but if you are on the big shout outs list and see this please relay my Richard Gere recommendations:primal fear, Chicago, and officer and a gentleman.you may not but I love you all for just clicking on this amazing woman's reactions ❤ she will enjoy his work in these movies even though she doesn't like him to much
The skunk smell is hard to describe, it's not awful like the smell of a dead animal but its very intense that can make a whole small park smell like it or for example i can get the smell in my bedroom and we have a big vacant lot 100 meters away where i asume the pass by.
Sometimes on the interwebs the question comes up about what film was so deeply disturbing you could never watch it again. The answers are usually things like Salo, A Serbian Film, Irreversible, and Hachi: A Dog's Tale.
You don’t want to know what a skunk smells like, it is bad and getting the smell off isn’t easy, they say bathing in tomato juice gets rid of the smell.
2. Have you ever had a Molsen Export? There's an after taste to them that are "skunky" Amplify that by about 327 and you have an idea of what skunk spray smells like.
In my opinion, because dogs are domesticated animals (and have been for so very long), we bear a unique responsibility for them. We, as humans, owe it to every single dog to take care of them, and the abuse, neglect, or abandonment of a dog should be treated with as much concern (and punished just as harshly) as with a child.
Richard gere movies to watch, an officer and a gentleman, internal affairs, one he did with Ed Norton, one he did with kim Bassinger. One he did with Jennifer Lopez, i think called Shall we dance? And Pretty Woman!!

@dennismason3740 are you spelling skunk with 1 less k, which is actually a t and the s is a c?😁
The statue infront of shibuya station is of hachi waiting faithfully infront of the entrance, as u saw in the credit scene…
But the statue in tokyo university is of hachi reuniting with a smiling prof ueno🥲🥲🥲
That statue is beautiful and emotional.
I love the Reunion Statue at the University of Tokyo.
This was such a well made adaptation of a true story. There are so many stories of animals that amaze us every day. Dawn, there is a similar real story made into a movie long ago about a little terrier in Scotland. I won't spoil it for you, in case you want to find it. The movie is called Greyfriar's Bobby.
So at the end, when hachi sees him again and in color, hes passed on and seeing him in Heaven!
Read the story of Greyfiers Bobby. A loyal Scottish dog ♥️ Supposedly guarded his master's grave for 14 years. This was around the 1860s to 1870s
Just one more reason I love dogs.
I think dogs know when it's time for you to come home from work because when you leave the house your smell lingers in the house and gradually goes down during the day and they eventually learn that when the smell drops to a certain level you come home
damn film makes me cry every bloody time cause everyone that watches it cries there eyes out
I watched this once on a plane and cried my eyes out and then got a nose bleed so was a total mess.
I luv this movie! I luv dogs and this movie about hatchi's loyality is so heart breaking and at the same time heart warming ❤️ thanks for sharing Dawn Marie ❤️💛
Every time I see this movie I cry. It is a wonderful movie. Based on a true story. Nice breed of dog.
I saw both of those and they're good and sweet films in their own rights but I think this version is still my favorite
I'm I a horrible person because I loved watching Dawn Marie cried? I'm not a "pet person," but I did cry too.
There is a statue of Hachiko outside Shibuya Station that I visited. It's known as a place to wait for people you're meeting. The real Hachiko was actually taxidermied and is a museum now.
Hey pretty eyes! ( Dawn )
This is such a beautiful and at the same time, very sad story that has been told so well.
There is another sculpture of Hachi, it's at the University and in it he is reunited with Professor Ueno.
A great heartwarming movie. I love that you mix up the types of films you watch. Maybe a comedy next? 'Skin Deep' is hilarious. Then maybe another drama. Horror. And on and on.
Where will you find a deeper loyalty ....dog to human..a greater love ..human for dog
I remember watching Greyfrieyers Bobby on Tele years ago and crying my eye's out❤😢😢
If you are in US, you can see a replica of the Hachi statue at 1 Depot Square, Woonsocket, RI 02895.
Definitely my favorite dog movie. Makes me 😢 very time. Amazing story.
I once saw the original Japanese film. It's amazing. Absolutely right. Dogs should rule the planet. No more wars or sadism, greed
They did a good view showing the view of the dog, by making the colors mostly gray, with some blue and some yellow.
A man and his dog....what more needs be said.
When i saw the title, i knew the crying was about to start. After watching this, pib did a parody where she cried a river watching grass grow, or paint dry, i am not the sort of guy that enjoys watching a woman cry.
That was nuts.
great movie, great reaction. I loved the movie so much that I had to buy it. Thank you for the post, and yes. It's based on a true story.
We just wanted to say my wife and I love to watch Movies with you , we been married 52 years in April and in our late seventies and live a mountain over looking the ocean don’t get out much 👍🙏😎🌹🌹🌹🌹First Time Commenting
I couldn´t stop crying the first time, I watched this movie and I still can´t stop crying, when I´m watching this movie.
We don´t deserve dogs. They are way too good for us.
Best talking dog movie ever, the cartoon, Up! Bring a whole box of tissues!
, RUclips Has Cheated you and only given a like and disslike icon, as Movies like this,,, you should have a Love Icon so people can share there love, for your genuine heartfelt reactions you share to us. Namaste, and Love to You
Hard story to watch but I've seen it a million times. Heart wrenching but such a good heartfelt story.
Everyday 17:00 spot on
Not only did I cry a million tears during this reaction, I got the biggest laugh at your reaction to seeing Richard Gere's name in the credits!
Btw, Hachi was a Japanese Akita Inu. Beautiful breed.
Love dogs hate death since I just lost mine of 15 years a couple months ago.
I so empathise with you. Just lost my almost 17 year old terrier 4 months ago. The end of this movie hit hard.
He was in one psychological horror film: “The Mothman Prophecies”
This is the year I plan on joining the pattron team but if you are on the big shout outs list and see this please relay my Richard Gere recommendations:primal fear, Chicago, and officer and a gentleman.you may not but I love you all for just clicking on this amazing woman's reactions ❤ she will enjoy his work in these movies even though she doesn't like him to much
Another touching dog movie I recommend is A Dog's Purpose (2017).
One minute in, and I already have tears
Hachi is just one of many:
en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_individual_dogs#Faithful_after_owner's_death
Thank you for your beautiful reaction.
The skunk smell is hard to describe, it's not awful like the smell of a dead animal but its very intense that can make a whole small park smell like it or for example i can get the smell in my bedroom and we have a big vacant lot 100 meters away where i asume the pass by.
i was just thinking it might have helped if they would have given him some friends. he was totally reliant on one man for company.
I can't watch this movie with you, Dawn. I saw this movie years ago, and I swore I'd never watch it again. The ending is just too sad.😢
Frozen butterfingers are the best
Sometimes on the interwebs the question comes up about what film was so deeply disturbing you could never watch it again. The answers are usually things like Salo, A Serbian Film, Irreversible, and Hachi: A Dog's Tale.
MEGAN LEAVEY is a good dog movie.
Doggoos Rule!!!!! Professional woofers are amazing!!!!!!
This story, breaks my heart.
You don’t want to know what a skunk smells like, it is bad and getting the smell off isn’t easy, they say bathing in tomato juice gets rid of the smell.
We don't deserve dogs. Their soul and love is so pure.
2. Have you ever had a Molsen Export? There's an after taste to them that are "skunky" Amplify that by about 327 and you have an idea of what skunk spray smells like.
I enjoyed how you lessened your sadness by slamming the wife.
Hitachi 😂
To us older gen people, it was a brand that made tv's originally.
