It baffles me that that state is not getting involved with the issues at the jail. There are so many issues going on there, infrastructure, employee retention, nepotism, and safety. Fish rot from the head down.
I didn’t not vote for this S.O.B. But was overwhelmed when I saw that we are major ran democrat in San Antonio from mayor,AD,sheriff and almost all judges on the ballot were democrats without no opposition candidates 2 1/2 pages on the ballot sample! Unbelievable! He needs to be voted out! I’m doing my part but unfortunately it’s not enough he just won again!
@MrYohance13 umm, you do realize the sheriff is responsible for the whole county, including the tiny towns ???? Name one policy he has come up with that makes things better? Don't be an elitist.
4 more years of Hollywood Javie lying and jaw jacking for the camera. I'm wondering which cartel pays him. He is always a day late and dollar short solving issues. Human trafficking, vehicle theft rings, shows up after the fact. However, all kinds of petty issues, he is front and center. His great solution for jail overcrowding is to stop accepting drunks, drug addicts , and sick people. Ummm, that would most criminals.
Every other major county jail in the U.S. has a medical staff/unit that can treat and monitor detox inmates...except for Bexar County. Where did this sheriff get his badge? A box of Froot Loops?
Dont most major cities have Large County Jails with well built Medical wings? Our county in West Michigan does. Im a retired county law enforcement officer.
Most of those deaths had nothing to do with initial bookings and intoxication. That sheriff needs to be looked into by the Texas AG. He is not fulfilling his constitutional duty under Texas State law. He should be ashamed that he is keeping more dangerous people out on the street.
If you look at it from the jails view, other agencies can't just drop off problems and the jail gets the blame when deaths happen. From the family, they want their loved ones even though criminally charged, safe & taken care of. We just need to work together. Like any change, it will take getting used to
Too many people are dying in custody. That probably results in millions of dollars in lawsuits, as well as the loss of lives. The sheriff is a turd, but I understand why he might be doing this. If you don’t want to deal with it, stop arresting people for minor stuff. That will give you more time with the dangerous criminals.
This can get expensive, perhaps they can sign a memorandun of agreemeng and have all the agencies booking arrestees pay an extra fee to support such an expense.
@@UNKTXJIM Good Morning. The jail already has a budget for a medical staff to screen prisoners on a 24/7 basis. It's paid for by tax money. If the police department has to do this, then it's double the taxes being spent on the same service. Perhaps the sheriff should give up some of the budget that has already been paid to his agency for this service.
@JoeyM-q9w Yes, they do but if a prisoner has a medical condition that is considered a health risk then it is up to the arresting agency to have him cleared, a lot of times agencies don't report these conditions to avoid getting stuck babysitting a prisoner at a hospital. If anything, if the personnel doing the pre screening identify a condition considered a health risk the prisoner should be remanded into the arresting agency's custody. I don't know what is BCSO's budget, they might be overwhelmed or maybe their personnel are not doing their job. I'm not gonna make assumptions, but I would start by looking at the budget/manpower versus the number of arrestees are being booked into the detention facility. It is apparent the jail has a major issues and EVERYONE has to play a role in being a responsible LE agency.
@@UNKTXJIM I absolutely agree with you. However, this is not what happened. The sheriff already decided that ANYONE who might be intoxicated or under the influence will NOT be accepted at the county jail. Having an Emergency or life threatening medical situation is a different story. The budget given to the jail to hire a 24/7 medical staff was given to the sheriff for this purpose. (Tampa channel 11), to screen all new prisoners for safety issues. If this protocol was already agreed to, and the sheriff has been given the funds to have his staff medical screen new arrivals, then the sheriff cannot just decide to change the policy. I'm thinking there is something else going on at the jail, the the sheriff is refocusing the causes of death.
It makes sense when you look at the data. There’s been a rise in individuals dying while being detained, and when that happens, the department is held responsible. In about 7 out of 10 cases, the family sues, and the department takes the blame. As a result, they now take more precautions.
so cops are complaining about doing their damn job lmao. potential inmates should be medically cleared by the arresting agency.. they're in their respective custody.
Once the Sheriff accepts someone into their custody, they assume the liability. If that inmate needs to be medically cleared or treated, it's now at the Sheriffs expense to get that inmate escorted to a medical facility. I think the issue here is that the Sheriff no longer wants to be picking up the tab for other agencies. The overtime to have deputies sit at a medical facility, the tab from the medical facility, and transportation cost all add up and it's all coming out the Sheriff's budget. Basically, the Sheriff is tired of picking up the tab for the arresting agency who make the arrest and dump the arrestee at the jail. There was a county sheriff here in California who enacted a similar policy. It resulted in an agreement with all the police agencies and the county that they would kick in a bit more toward the sheriff's budget.
Blame the voters first. They wanted him as Sheriff for our County. He was horrible before the election and he is horrible now. You just head it now on this video he stands by what he enforces and see no wrong yet McManus doesn’t agree with his policies. And McManus has a better track record to the so called Sheriff. But the voters for Salazar won’t say a word as long as Buchanan a republican candidate is not office. Way to go liberals! 👏🏽
Not from the area, but it seems that someone is getting paid for those now required visits. Who gets paid and who is doing the billing? Kickbacks anyone? I wonder what the money trail would show?
This Sheriff is not going to be the fall guy for police brutality and wrongful deaths done by arresting offices. The Minority community will heavily benefit from this policy.
Why don’t they just hire RN nurses at county jail. When they take them to the hospital all they give them is there medicine if something life threatening take them to the emergency room because of this now we have to police ourselves. What’s next the fire department will not turn off fires and the ambulance will not take people to the emergency room. It sounds like our pets have more rights than us. What is going on. We need sheriff Grady from Polk county Florida because he doesn’t take bull crap from criminals.
I'm tired of living in this $hity and this is why. Now the criminals know how scam the crappy system and go to where they won't go to jail. Sure they'll get charges but if they want, they'll just skip town.
What about the justice for the people who are suffering from police officers brutality and police officers planting illegal drugs inside a person vehicle for which they are serving time in jail and prison
Imo alot of people commit suicide because of the treatment you receive in the Bexar County Jail. They treat animals better that's why so many are dying in their mind they can treat people however. Alot of people are already dealing with the stress of being in jail an for the CO's to make it worse for you where some people don't see a way out they rather kill themselves then spend a few days in that jail
Apparently the only option is to create a facility that has the Physicians to evaluate the detainee and then pass them over to the Sheriffs department...
You all voted for Salazar, reep what you sow.
It baffles me that that state is not getting involved with the issues at the jail. There are so many issues going on there, infrastructure, employee retention, nepotism, and safety. Fish rot

same, i didn't even vote for those idiots....and it sucked that there wasn't a republican candidate @@ll3174
I sure did. Stay in your tiny small towns if you wanna live in the wild wild west
@MrYohance13 umm, you do realize the sheriff is responsible for the whole county, including the tiny towns ???? Name one policy he has come up with that makes things better? Don't be an elitist.
Salazar is a clown. Take off that uniform. You bring shame to it.
Hire more Medical staff at the jail nurses and orderlies
Damn, becoming a criminal is getting better than doing the right thing... gotta love Salazar and letem go Joe 😂😂😂
Salazar has to go
SA had their chance and voted him right back in 🤷♂️ now we’ll face the consequences

That. Sheriff needs to be fired
After decades in law enforcement. This guy is not a sheriff he’s a politician. Yall need to vote him out
We trued but he has a hispanic name so hispanics all voted for him for that alone.
@ yup and no matter how bad they are they vote for Hispanics. Like Hildago in Houston and AOC in NY.
@ you think uvalde would have taught them
can't, stupid dems just voted this TONTO back in..... along with like 6 dem judges.
@barrybb5409 exactly. Its embarrassing to live here
Every other major county jail in the U.S. has a medical staff/unit that can treat and monitor detox inmates...except for Bexar County. Where did this sheriff get his badge? A box of Froot Loops?
You believe that? They don't even want to feed the people that are still innocent, food "fit for human consumption.".
This is what happens when your sheriff is paid off by the cartels. He needs to be dealt with accordingly, the way cartels do it.
wtf I swear San Antonio stupid I got sent to jail one whole month for a doobie no bond nothing one month wats wrong here 😠
In Florida, there was a bill about Marijuana that gave the cops less to do and was to put more funds in their budget.
GET RID OF SALAZAR
He’s a political hack
Absolutely this needs to end. Maybe have medical staff in the jail who can screen the inmates.
Will the other agencies pitch in?
Most sheriff's oppose feeding the innocent civilians they are holding captive.
Sherrif is terrible who voted this 🤡
Liberals
Dont most major cities have Large County Jails with well built Medical wings? Our county in West Michigan does. Im a retired county law enforcement officer.

What the hell!? Get that guy out of that office.

From the family, they want their loved ones even though criminally charged, safe & taken care of. We just need to work together. Like any change, it will take getting used to
So these other cops would rather people die in jail than have them screens and treated.
Sounds like there might be a new Sheriff coming
Nope, this moron just got re-elected.
The people voted for him so
unfortunately, but is time to send him to jailed.
What people voted for him? If I ask 10 maybe 2 say they did! Best sheriff money can buy!
Nah I’m calling the DOJ on Salazar
Too many people are dying in custody. That probably results in millions of dollars in lawsuits, as well as the loss of lives. The sheriff is a turd, but I understand why he might be doing this. More cops waiting at hospital means less cops arresting people for J- walking, hurt feelings, and other minor BS.
Who elected this clown?!? I didn’t vote for him that’s for sure!
Awful policy. This is why you have and hire medical staff AT THE jail, to clear inmates prior to being booked in. Bexar County going soft on crime
This can get expensive, perhaps they can sign a memorandun of agreemeng and have all the agencies booking arrestees pay an extra fee to support such an expense.

He's blue, deep blue
Well, jail deaths cost counties money and lawsuits. I mean I get it. I'm guessing there's no medical staff on payroll?
They do have medical staff, which make this policy redundant
It makes sense when you look at the data. There’s been a rise in individuals dying while being detained, and when that happens, the department is held responsible. In about 7 out of 10 cases, the family sues, and the department takes the blame. As a result, they now take more precautions.

It's easy to yell from the sidelines but being in the game😅😅😅😅that's a whole different story. Keep doing what you do regardless.
I’m horrified! Take them to jail and get a Doctor to examine them in jail. Why endanger the public?
Vote Salazar out! Oh wait, San Antonio voted them in again.
And of course Sherrif Salazar made sure to wait this late in the year to enforce his new policy. But Bexar County "Democrats" voted him in.
Go back to Minneapolis were you had big problems as well were you left
IDK he was there before...that explains everything!
Does that mean drunk drivers won't be arrested on the spot since they're "detoxing" from alcohol as soon as they stop drinking
PEOPLE OF SAN ANTONIO TEXAS. STOP BEING A GHETTO SANCTUARY CITY.

This damn democrat sheriff got re-elected. Let's get him out of office.
We have medical staff here in santa rosa county fla
We need Batman because the joker is playing around with our safety
Hahahaha! A Big Harris supporter!
Next Election you can correct this issue. Unless you think you think you can get enough recall signatures to do it sooner!
We have to wait 4 years. That's why I didn't vote for him.
The election was rigged, period! Nobody's wants him...
CALL THE DOJ ON HIM. Lock him up
TF?! He’s trying to save lives so arrested people don’t die in jail of health issues. Its basic human rights people, the Sheriff is doing his job.
This is a ridiculous policy. Delays all kinds of processes. Gives more problems than solutions
Salazar needs to be fired. His job is to protect people, not criminals.
So Elmendorf doesn't have their own jail????
Absolutely a DEI hire..
So, when you're arrested in that county, you become "property" of the police?
Why don’t they just hire RN nurses at county jail. Have them checked out by doctors in the facility
This is why we tried to vote him out
This guy sucks, period. 20 years here, in the past 5 years crime has gone up everywhere in SA.
I didn't vote for this weak sheriff, he is an absolute failure. He has shown what a terrible job he does all the time. Vote him out!
Hospitals need to get the lead out.this is true do get tied up for hours doing silly reports etc....

Why does Salazar have a attitude ❓
How dare he want cops actually help!?
Be careful what you ask for.
Yall are just now realizing he’s a joke ???
Imo alot of people commit suicide because of the treatment you receive in the Bexar County Jail. They treat animals better that's why so many are dying in their mind they can treat people however. 😝😂🤣😆😆😆 democrats!
Can Sheriff Javier Salazar be arrested if he derails trumps polices ?
So ya'll ok with the people who died in custody??? None of ya'll ever got an SAPD officer on a bad day ai see.
Can you stop with the heavy accent when speaking Spanish words
Salazar is a joke
Sheriff Salazar is suffering from Trump derangement. syndrome. And that explains why he's not thinking correctly and he's a fumbly nut.😅
Red state problems! Where is Abbott at? He can throw all kinds of money at the boarder but can’t help out the police in Texas??? How pathetic.
Soft on crime democrat policies at work.
Apparently the only option is to create a facility that has the Physicians to evaluate the detainee and then pass them over to the Sheriffs department...
