On my system, only with the router on I got hesitation problems on the x and y for 3-4 seconds. Then it would resume. An engineer told me every component needs to be connected to a common ground. This was difficult with my router as it doesn't have a ground plug. I ran a ground wire to the body of the router. This solved the problem. No more stopping or hesitation problems.

Thanks for the explanation, Jeff. Thanks also for the CNC Troubleshooting FB group...it's great to have somewhere to discuss CNC bits and pieces.

Rusty, what I thought was crazy was that the CNC Troubleshooting group name was available on Facebook. To me that shows how much this space is needed. Please help get the word out about this group so we can get more of these amazing projects coming to life.

Thanks for putting this out there. Definitely a topic that keeps swirling around the FB group and forums. I'm in the process of setting up my OneFinity and worry that the existing wiring in the shop here isn't going to allow for a separation of circuits completely between my controller and router. I was wondering whether or not you have had any experience with power conditioners or other kinds of inline EMI filters as a solution to having things like routers on the same circuit as the controller.

Orsa, I have seen EMI do some strange things and often we overlook the simple things that can minimize the effects.

Is there a particular brand of high quality USB cable that is well shielded and suited for use around CNC machines? Thanks

So the Onefinity CNC is a bad example of a good wiring

Hi, can I prevent interference if I put a ferrite core on the cables?

Can Security Cables be used for cnc applications?

Mick I'm not sure what you are calling security cables. You definitely want twisted shielded pairs. I would probably stay away from using anything like CAT5 cables because each pair has a different twist length. Each CNC manufacturer has different stepper motor wire and generally the don't have a ground. What you have to be careful with is the USB connections and your AC power lines.

it only happens to me when my computer is plugged into any circuit in my house, it happens randomly, first minute or even the last... if i run the laptop off battery power, then im fine. i just cant turn on or off the air or vacuum wile cutting.

It sounds like you really need to put everything on separate circuits or at least your machine. You can also try rerouting your USB cable.
