It would be cool if Alex did some Indiana Jones videos explaining the stories and significance behind some of the treasures like the stones and the crystal skull.
No, but I have a Theory that Rey was Mutt Williams' daughter who was brought a long, long time in the past to a galaxy far, far away by Professor Jules Brown, to save history from Ben Swolo.
I mean if you really think about if biggs and luke hadn't grown up together, learning to fly together, and then we wouldn't have really seen Luke get off the farm. So you know, the galaxy should have a Biggs Darklighter Day.
Biggs' sacrifice was vital in delaying Vader and his TIE Squad from reaching Luke in the trench run. No Biggs and Vader catches up before Han has time to save the day.
"the best stories aren't about the plot so much as they are about the characters and what they go through." I need to save this quote somewhere because it feels like something to keep in mind when writing.
Fantastic quote! I think this is exactly why the Star Wars sequels weren’t as well received as the other films. Rey was just so overpowering from the onset and went through very few trials and tribulations, unlike Luke and Anakin. Plus she never raced any real setbacks or failures either. Her “journey” was that the tapped into latent powers and used them to beat Kylo Ren 3 consecutive times, best Luke Skywalker with little difficulty and ultimately defeat the “Emperor” all by herself in a matter of minutes. How do you get behind, relate to and care about a character who did everything perfectly all throughout the movies?
@@larrylutz6825 you clearly didn't pay much attention to those movies. Rey was not more overpowered than luke was in original series, Although she is poorly written and doesn't go through a satisfying character arc.
@@Gmthekiller Luke Skywalker never did anything close to what we see MaRey sue do. Please, list off what Luke did that was, "overpowered" because I can list off everything for MaRey.
Essentially Citizen Kane and Casablanca....though to that I counter; Inception and Matrix. Both films make you care about the plot and the characters. Epic films can do both.
Even if "Indy did nothing" in Raiders, it's still not necessarily a strike against the movie itself. It's just how the plot happens to play out. Sometimes people do an awful lot, and things just sort of wend their way forward regardless of what they do. At the very worst, there's no "bad" outcome of Raiders--either they never find the Ark, or they do find it, open it up and everyone dies. There's no point where it can be weaponized--you can't even keep a swastika painted on a box that its stored in. There are some valid criticisms of Raiders, such as: it borrows an awful lot from "Secret of the Incas", the villains are almost comically neutered (it's the only Indy movie where the main enemy force doesn't kill anyone intentionally), and how they have to keep retconning Indy and Marion's ages so that Indy didn't turn out to be a ephebophile when he was younger. But Indy's effect on the plot (or perceived lack thereof) isn't one of them. It's just a funny thing to think about. People take too much umbrage from what The Big Bang Theory opined on the matter.
I'm pritty sure the similarities with "Secret of the Incas" is coincidental and if it isn't it doesn't classify as "borrowing" but as inspiration. The Nacis aren't exactly neutered, they pose a significant chalenge to Indy and he almost dies many times fighting them it doesn't matter if they do kill anyone or not as most of the time they are fighting Indy and his main allies directly and they sure as hell aren't gonna kill him. Saying that there are many legitimate criticisms toward the movie is a gross overstatement and not accurate at all.
This is similar to Seven. Kevin Spacey turns himself in, but that doesn’t mean Brad and Morgan are irrelevant. It’s about the characterization that unfolds at the end. Arnold didn’t kill Sarah Connery is Terminator, but the movie wouldn’t be the same even if she continues to live either way
That’s probably the dumbest criticism for a movie I have ever heard and I’m so happy someone’s finally calling it out. That’s like saying the Avengers had no impact on the plot of Infinity War because if they weren’t in the movie, Thanos would still have gotten the 6 infinity stones and wiped out half the universe, therefore Infinity Wars is bad.
I’d also point out that the only reason the Nazis are on that island to begin with is because Indy blew up the plane they were going to use to fly the ark to Berlin. That’s definitely him affecting the plot! On a side note, thanks for doing an Indy explained video. It’s one of my favorite franchises too, and I hope you’ll do more of these.
2:06 fun fact - the picture of the ark being carried by priests over a battlefield was created by Ralph McQuarrie, the legendary Star Wars concept artist.
My thoughts exactly. The treasure wasn't what the ultimate goal of the movies is. It's just there to get Indy and co. to where they need to be. Keep up the good work!
@STRAKAZulu....how can you say finding the ARK wasn't the ultimate goal in Raiders of the lost Ark? Remember , Raiders did not have the Indiana Jones tag attached to it back in 81 so nobody knew then who Indy was but most people knew what the Ark was .....but that's not the point of this video...Yes Indy dies effect the outcome but finding the ARK is the main goal of this movie more so than the other movies ..
@@williamwilkinson6665 here is my rebuttal. Not that anyone asked for it. I think this criticism of Indy is irrelevant because I think it misses the point. The film very much subverts the genre expectation that the hero will achieve the goal that kick starts the plot. In this film the plot merely acts as a vessel for jones journey of personal growth. He does not achieve the goal of getting the ark, which is what kickstarts the plot. But he does achieve his goal of getting with Marion, a personal goal which developed alongside his journey of personal growth. I also think having the nazis get the ark in the end is perfect encapsulation of this franchise’s attitude towards them. That they are well mechanised buffoons. Think about it. They chose to keep it in anticipation of using it in the future, despite the fact that they know they don’t know how to use it and it went horrifically wrong when they tried to use it.
@@Rodanguirus The nazi's didn't know where Marion was. They only found out by Toht following Indy, who they knew was good friends with her father, and her. Every argument about him not being essential to the plot is pure conjecture. "Maybe" this or "with enough time" that... Literally the first inciting incident is the meeting between the men and Indy/Marcus where they intercept a german communique saying they've only heard of Tannis, the headpiece, and only the name Abner Ravenwood. Had indy been like, "nah, not interested", no one knows how long it'd be before the nazi's find Marion, if at all, and the medallion. His DIRECT involvement in finding Marion is what let's Toht find her too, and the medallion. And even after that, the nazi's dig in the wrong place for probably months, until they see Indy's crew after they've already found it. Also, even if they did get the medallion somehow, do you think they'd have access to a person to translate those markings? And ALSO, after Belloq takes the ark, they were going to fly it to berlin....Indy stops the plane. They put it on a truck....Indy takes the truck. They're finally "safe" on Katanga's ship....it gets stolen and indy follows the sub to the island. And after it kills all the nazi's present, Indy takes it back to the US to get it out of the hands of Hitler. So yeah, he's unbelievably important...just not perfect.
@@jacksondolly3248 So if Indy wasn't there, its possible the ark would have made it to Berlin. Hitler would have been eager to open it, and killed himself and all his followers in one moment, ending the war. Nice job, Solo. Still a great movie though!
@@jacksondolly3248 how do you know Toht was following Indy? I thought Toht and the Germans were following her dad, found out he was dead so they searched for his daughter. Is that not right?
Nice to hear somebody who figured out what the movies are actually about. Jones has an amazing character arc through the original trilogy. A idealistic eagle scout who becomes jaded mostly because of an absent father and starts selling antiquities, only looking for fortune and glory (temple is a prequel to raiders, btw), who comes full circle and regains his ideals learning that some things are more important, and at the end he earns the real thing he always wanted, his father's love.
Luke doesn't affect the plor in ROTJ. He helps to rescue Han Solo at the beginning of the movie and returns Darth Vader / Anakin to the light, but the rebels were to destroy the second Death Star and Luke almost dies in it.
But again, as with Indiana Jones, that's not the point. The point is Luke coming face to face with the Dark Side and choosing to take a different path than his father. It's also about love, sacrifice, and redemption: Anakin making the choice to save his son, knowing it will be fatal on his part. You could also argue that if the Emperor hadn't been so absorbed in dealing with Luke & Vader, he might have sensed the Rebels winning down below and done something to prevent the loss of the shield barrier & destruction of the Death Star. The fact Luke effectively took the Emperor & Darth Vader out of the final battle, leaving their lieutenants in charge during the most crucial moments, has to count for something.
@@meganofsherwood3665 I see your point. It was not just rebels vs empire or even good vs evil, it was also about Luke finding his own path and Darth Vader's redemption.
I love this movie as it is, I never thought that Indy didn't contribute, but then again, he did always seem to lose the treasure in the end: Brody's museum doesn't get the Ark, the US Government does Indy lost all but one of the Shankara Stones, which goes to restore the village blighted by the Thuggee child kidnappings Indy was saved from losing himself with the Holy Grail But then again, he did save himself, the world, and other people from doom and destruction.
Exactly. People seem confused that simply because the Nazi team is defeated without Indy, or Indy’s ultimate goal is not achieved, that Indy is not vital. B.S. He literally saves the world from the accidental or intentional use of a powerful weapon - that’s the climax of the plot.
Thank you so much for this, cause yeah Indiana Jones was never about gaining the treasure it was surviving the journey and finding something more meaningful.
The first time I heard this argument was on Big Bang Theory , like probably most people. I immediately felt that the Nazis wouldn't have found Miriam without following Indy to her and the medallion.
Correct. So had Indy not gotten involved at all, the ark would've either not been found my the Nazis or wouldve been found by them later if they kept digging. By Indy simply getting involved it already puts him at a disadvantage because the only outcome now is (the nazis find it sooner). Because now they follow indy, get the medallion.
I recall vividly sitting in the movie theater in 1981 with my Mom and Dad and being completely captivated by that most epic story. Nothing made me feel that way in the movies except for the original trilogy. Raiders of the Lost Ark still holds up to today. I'd hate to see another actor try and top what Harrison Ford did.
@@ChuyR. Yeah, that's probably what happened. I remember that episode, and it always seemed off to me. That was in the seasons where it had started to go downhill though.
Please continue... and let me make a suggestion: There is a crossover between Star Wars and Indiana Jones in some comic book... Chewbacca is Big Foot.... Indy finds him.. can you please elaborate on that?
Great video! I loved the part where you talked about the movies being about the development of Indie as a person rather than just the mcguffin he strives for. I feel like a lot of film criticism lately really forgets about the subtext or themes a piece of media has, and focus too much on the presence of plot holes to dictate what is a well executed or well written piece.
One of my bigger issues with this theory is that it was popularised by big bang theory and so millions just agreed without actually thinking for themselves.
Exactly. It's a goof that was never meant to be taken seriously and isn't worthy of a legit counter argument. Next up: Star Wars Explained asks Why Did the Chicken REALLY Cross the Road?
@@LaurenceQuint Yes, I agree with the Indy-didn’t-need-to-be-there argument AND also agree its a great film. And often in real life we find out we-did-something-for-nothing but still get a cool story out of it, so it’s believable that some movies should be like that.
"The movies aren't as much about the plot so much as the characters and what they go through." I couldn't agree more! :D A buddy of mine once knocked Indy as "the ultimate loser" because he never kept any of the treasures he found except the Cross of Coronado. I argued that it wasn't about the treasure...it's about the ADVENTURE!!
Very nice! I've been watching your videos for about 3 years now and I think this is a good pallet cleanser, especially with so many Star Wars only (heh) channels out there. You sharing your passion is what started this channel and it will keep it alive!
Now that we are finally talking Indy I have a Q&A question for you. In Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade young Indy is in Boy Scouts and the rank on his uniform is life (one rank before eagle). So my quest is does Indy ever became an Eagle Scout?
Hmm, but what was the actual name of the first movie when it first came out? I remember the signs and ads displayed "Raiders of the Lost Ark." Which means the movie was about the ark and the other sideline stories were MacGuffins. Subsequent movies were titled "Indiana Jones and the..." which means the subsequent movies were primarily about Indy, but the first one wasn't named that way.
So? Just because Indiana Jones name isn't in the title doesn't change a thing. And it doesn't make sense. Why would it be called "Indiana Jones and the Raiders of the lost ark"? Indiana IS one of the Raiders.
More of these pls. If i could recommend a topic, maybe something along the lines "the missed character potential of Short Round" or something akin to it.

So, I never delved into Indy Expanded Universe, I know there are games, comics, novels, etc. But I was more into Star Wars. But I always liked Indian Jones, and was always curious, Beyond the three (Yes, I meant to say 3) films, and that bad Shia Lebouf Fan Film, what is worth, watching, reading and playing? What does Disney Consider Cannon and what is Legends? Do I remember that The Young Indiana Jones Chronicles was basically just disguised history lessons, or is that the Mandela Effect? Basically I would love if you started with a video to help fans determine what is and isn''t worth the time in the Indy EU, and Then we can get started enjoying the franchise with you!
This whole argument about Indy's involvement in Raiders has the same energy as people who ask "Why didn't The Fellowship just fly the eagles to Mordor?". In both cases I roll my eyes and simply say: "Because that way there would be no story"
What does that even mean? Of course there would've been a story. It's pointing out plot holes, not demanding the obliteration of the entire saga. Let's take your LOTR Eagles example. No one wants the story to wrap up with the fellowship getting on the eagles and flying over Mordor and dropping the ring unceremoniously into the lava. No one wants that. What would've been nice is if Tolkien took that glaring plothole into account and wrote with it in mind. Maybe they take the Eagles to a certain point, but something happens to them and they are no longer an option. Maybe the Orcs have Catapults. Maybe there's a Dragon. The point is, pointing out plotholes doesn't mean "there would be no story" it means "this is something glaring that should've been considered". The same is true for Indy. It should've been written so that something -- probably multiple somethings -- that Indy did ultimately lead to the defeat of the Nazis where otherwise they would've succeeded, making him the hero. Something like him discovering a way to set the Ark to "kill everyone mode" where it wasn't previously (if we want Indy to have a darker side) or the Ark not opening or functioning as they thought it might without some other special token, incantation, key, or whatever. Anything that gives Indy the job of defeating the bad guy or saving the good guys/world from the bad guys. Instead, the Fellowship walked right by the eagles when they could've rode them and ignored that it was a thing (even though they knew), and Indy had no real effect on the outcome of the movie (something this video doesn't actually counter).
So Indy killing about 30 Nazi’s before the rest are blown up by the Ark, saving Marion, and still keeping the Ark out of Hitler’s hands doesn’t make him a hero? And as for your why not take the eagles to Mordor the Nazgûl can sense the ring and have fell beasts which would be more than enough to stop the fellowship and there is the fact that it was Gollum not Frodo who destroyed the Ring and that was only because he fell into the lava by dancing too close Frodo did not have the will power to destroy the Ring because NO ONE had the will power to destroy the Ring something that Gandalf and the Wise point out quite often
@@lordsofarnor4128 Yeah but those 30 Nazis would've died when the Ark opened, so no. He wouldn't have had to save Marion if he wasn't involved and neither the kidnapping of Marion nor the rescuing of her changed the outcome. If she wasn't there, nothing would've changed. If she wasn't rescued, nothing would've changed (except her death, arguably because he's there). You're missing my point on both counts. Indy needed a more substantial impact on the outcome of the story for the tale to not have the plothole that folks are describing. The fellowship needed to address the eagles in some way instead of leaving the entire plan in the wind and unresolved. Indy didn't drive the story, he was just involved in it. Indy's action, while changing the substance of the story, did not impact its outcome other than just involve him. Likewise, the Fellowship did not engage with the obvious path (that Gandalf had set them on, no less) and then the entire topic wasn't discussed again. You can say the Ring wraiths could've sensed the ring and they could've flown to intercept or whatever. That doesn't negate the problem, it only enhances it, because that means the mechanism for explaining the Eagles not making it to Mordor was there and just wasn't used. The fellowship obviously didn't know about this complication, so that wouldn't be a reason for them not to use the eagles. So the story should've had the Fellowship take the Eagles and then encounter those barriers, which forces them to the ground for the rest of the journey. This solves the plot hole and answers the question "Why didn't they just take the eagles". TL;DR: Nazis would've still died, Marion wouldn't've needed rescuing, and the outcome of Raiders would've been the same without Indy being involved. The story would've been slightly different. More to the point, there would still have been a story, and should've been a story, and that story should've involved giving Indy a more substantial impact on the outcome. I explained an example of how this could've happened in my previous reply.
I understand what you are saying about raiders and I get that me personally I like the fact that it’s the Ark itself that kills the nazi’s as it’s a religious artifact that the nazi’s don’t understand I can see why you would want Indy to have a bigger effect on the defeat of the nazis. As for the eagles it is explained in the hobbit that the eagles refuse to carry people too close the houses and kingdoms of men for men will shoot down the eagles and the eagles themselves decide who to carry and when and Gandalf knew this because he’s the one who tells us in the hobbit and seeing how the Lord of the Rings is a sequel Tolkien doesn’t need to explain this detail because he already had in his first book. Another thing to point out is that the strength of the quest was in secrecy something the council of Elrond points out as that’s why glorfindel wasn’t involved for he is very powerful and all secrecy would be lost the same is true of the eagles there is nothing less secretive than 9 giant eagles flying all the way to Mordor. That’s just my opinion of course so if you disagree that’s good for you
This was a great post! THANKS! My entire family ADORES Indy, and are patiently waiting on the next movie! Yes, we understood this was a series about the growth of the character-- and wish his "son" wasn't such a jerk. (Can't remember his name- he had so much potential, too.😢) He could have taken off with the rest of the series, with Harrison Ford idling in the background! So- YES, I'd like to follow a page for Indy, or occasional articles here!
They don't say he doesn't affect the PLOT, they say he doesn't affect the OUTCOME. But that's also wrong, because without Indy the Germans end up with the Ark.
Couldn't agree more, and would love to see some deep dives into Indiana Jones lore. I know there's a comic book where the millennium falcon crashes into earth and indy finds it. Maybe that could even be a good jumping off point?

Q&A: Do you think we will see the Battle of Coruscant in The Clone Wars Season 7 similar to how the last Chapters of the original Clone Wars micro series divided its time between Anakin's mission and Shaak Ti, Mace and Yoda on Coruscant.
When they made "Raiders of the Lost Ark" they didn't know there was gonna be a sequel. The original "Star Wars" wasn't called "A New Hope" even in the beginning scroll until it was successful enough to insure a sequel and then Lucas tacked "A New Hope" on it.
My Best friend made this arguement that Indiana Jones doesn't affect the plot and it's nice to show her the importance of Indiana in the movie. And also is cool to see how you explain that the most important thing is the travel not end of the adventure
I'd heard this theory but never paid much attention to it so it's good to hear an opposing view. Keep up the Jones videos. I'd be interested in your thoughts on Crystal Skull...I've not watched it since it was in theaters.
The internet is full of topics and comments about how the hero of the story didn't do any thing or is actually the villain or any other form of tear down the heroes and try to say some thing shocking that sounds kind of logical. It would be interesting to see more videos that look at movies and try to defend or debunk some of these claims. Like Luke being manipulated in to killing a bunch of innocent lives on The Death Star, Jar Jar being the real Sith , Dorthey's trip to Oz being pointless, Willy Wonk planned every thing to happen, Home Alone and Saw are in the same universe" etc
All I heard was speculation, speculation and more speculation. I like the Indiana movies. But just because I do doesn't mean I'm going to come up with some far fetch explanation on why he is nessesary in the movie. Or trying to make sense.
The ENDING with the ark in the warehouse, DOESN’T HAPPEN without Indy being on the island to direct the U.S. to recover and secure the ark. Erroneously focusing on a subplot such as the Nazis or Marion and calling them the “climax” is just BBT’s cute little erroneous focus shift.
Love your content man! Always well thought out, and never reactionary. I hope you continue the Indiana Jones content too. The more discussion based on LucasFilm, the better - IMHO!
Keep em coming! We don’t hear anything positive anymore after Crystal Skull, it’d be cool to hear about some facts, fiction and theories about all the Indy’s. And if this is the only video that comes, thank you anyway!
The movie’s climax is the ark in the warehouse, that doesn’t happen without Indy leading the U.S. to the ark. Climax of the story and end of story. Marion, the Nazi’s, etc. are all subplots easily substituted for by any number of other antagonists. Entertaining, but NOT the climax.
First let me start by saying I love "Raiders of the Lost Ark."The first time I heard this plot hole theory is when Amy Fowler tells Sheldon Cooper this in the "Big Bang Theory." I was honestly pissed, and had the same reaction that Sheldon, Raj, Howard and Leonard did. Then I kept saying this was wrong, the hole premise is wrong, for many of the same arguments you stated. Then I actually went back and watched the movie and realized that this theory is correct. You made an error when you said the Nazi's followed Indy to get the medallion from Marian. If you remember when the government recruited Indy they already told him that that Nazi's were looking for the medallion. Marian also said to Indy that he was not the first person to come by and ask about the medallion. The Nazi's would have retrieved the Medallion regardless if Indy showed up which, would of lead them to finding the Ark, which ultimately would have lead to there deaths. The only thing that sticks is without Indy and Marian the US military archives would never had gained possession of it. Now regardless that there is a big plot whole in this movie, all your other arguments at 2:15 about why the movie is still great and why I will always love it are 100% on the money. The theory that Indiana Jones doesn't affect the plot can be true and you can still like the movie at the same time, for all the reasons you stated.
There’s something else everyone is missing: there is a deleted scene from the movie where the old man also informs Indy & Salah that anyone seeing inside the ark will die. That’s why Indy knows to tell Marion at the end to shut her eyes & keep them closed till everyone else dies. ALSO: If you look closely at the picture in the book Indy shows the government people at the beginning of the movie, you see the ones carrying the ark are all BLINDFOLDED!!! If the Nazi’s recovered the ark with this info (they could have had access to other books with this detail), then everyone (including other countries) are doomed. Without Indy in the story, the bad guys win.
I don't need any videos on the movies, but how about the TV-Series? And the Novelizations? And the Comic Books? And let's not forget some excellent Video Games! Are they all canon?

I’d also point out that the only reason the Nazis are on that island to begin with is because Indy blew up the plane they were going to use to fly the ark to Berlin. That’s definitely him affecting the plot!
On a side note, thanks for doing an Indy explained video. It’s one of my favorite franchises too, and I hope you’ll do more of these.
Well if they arrived with it to Berlin they would open it in front of Hitler probably, so?
Great point!!! In your face, Amy Farrah Fowler!
2:06 fun fact - the picture of the ark being carried by priests over a battlefield was created by Ralph McQuarrie, the legendary Star Wars concept artist.
This was pretty good. Think you should do this more!
I also love Indiana Jones as much as Star Wars.
I'd love to see more Indiana Jones Explained!
Y’all realize that he had the correct height of the staff. Had he not been there the nazis would’ve never found the ark
Had he not been at Marion’s bar, they likely would have recovered the medallion, so they would have found the ark.
That’s very true, too bad the guy who made the video didn’t mention that fact...oh wait, he did.
This theory was popularised MASSIVELY by Big Bang Theory, which just dumbed the plot down for a joke
I always thought that if Indy wasn't a part of the movie that the Nazis would've flown the ark in the Flying Wing to Berlin.
yeh but then they argue that would've been even better cos god would've killed hitler and all his minions
@@thehydronator3021 or as SWE said, the Nazis may have found a way to weaponize it
well nobody knew what it would do til they opened it so no they wouldn't have. @@Tabornacle
@@thehydronator3021 Exactly.
@@thehydronator3021 Well then Indy had a HUGE effect on the plot. A debateably positive one maybe, but thats a completely different argument.
YOUNG. INDIANA. JONES. Do a watch through!
Very good, but the show drags during the WWI saga.
I disagree apart from which most of the chronicles are during ww1 so if you don't like that there isn't much point watching....@@zico739
I love this movie as it is, I never thought that Indy didn't contribute, but then again, he did always seem to lose the treasure in the end:
Brody's museum doesn't get the Ark, the US Government does
Indy lost all but one of the Shankara Stones, which goes to restore the village blighted by the Thuggee child kidnappings
Indy was saved from losing himself with the Holy Grail
But then again, he did save himself, the world, and other people from doom and destruction.
People argue this??! -_-
It was mentioned in one of the big bang theory episodes and it got traction since
I thought neckbeard trolls didn't watch BBT.
@@ChuyR. Yeah, that's probably what happened. I remember that episode, and it always seemed off to me. That was in the seasons where it had started to go downhill though.
Also Indy saved Marion. Her face would've melted if he wasn't there to tell her to close her eyes.
I love the Indiana Jones movies as much as Star Wars too Alex!!!
Indiana Jones has always been Star Wars' brother series to me.
Please continue...
and let me make a suggestion:
There is a crossover between Star Wars and Indiana Jones in some comic book... Chewbacca is Big Foot.... Indy finds him.. can you please elaborate on that?
Oh yeah that was a neat story. Sad too
There's nothing to elaborate on. The comic is, like, 3 pages long. There's almost nothing more to it than you what you already said.
I read that story. It was just meant as a fun thought experiment and not meant to be taken as canon.
Alex were did you get the full size replicate helmets on you shelves??? They are amazing!
You can thank CinemaSins for that...
I've just realised a huge plot hole in the movie Titanic. If Jack and Rose weren't in the movie, the ship would still have sunk :-O
Ah yes, Indiana Jones Explained. My favourite channel.
One of my bigger issues with this theory is that it was popularised by big bang theory and so millions just agreed without actually thinking for themselves.
The Last Crusade is my favorite one, the ost is great.
Yes it is! Both movie and music!!
I like raiders a bit more, but last crusade has better music
I've never heard this perspective used as a negative against the film. Instead, I often hear people just make an observation regarding it.
As someone who loves Indiana Jones as well, Alex, I am all for you producing more of these “Indiana Jones Explained” video’s on occasion lol
I totally agree with your opinion about its not about getting the treasure.
*Alex about to put the idol on the shelf but suddenly holds it up in the air
“HOOKANDA MATUSO, NOBATHA!!!”
I love this, Alex! Your passion is what makes your videos and it shines here. Keep making Indiana Jones videos and anything else you like.
"The movies aren't as much about the plot so much as the characters and what they go through."
I couldn't agree more! :D
A buddy of mine once knocked Indy as "the ultimate loser" because he never kept any of the treasures he found except the Cross of Coronado. I argued that it wasn't about the treasure...it's about the ADVENTURE!!
That is exactly the point of the films. The fun comes from watching him trying to get the treasure.
Very nice! I've been watching your videos for about 3 years now and I think this is a good pallet cleanser, especially with so many Star Wars only (heh) channels out there.
You sharing your passion is what started this channel and it will keep it alive!
yes, I agree that Indiana Jones does affect the plot
Now that we are finally talking Indy I have a Q&A question for you. In Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade young Indy is in Boy Scouts and the rank on his uniform is life (one rank before eagle). So my quest is does Indy ever became an Eagle Scout?
I was a life scout in Boy Scouts never got to eagle but a lot of my friends in scouts did become Eagle Scouts
Great video, I love Indiana Jones!
The Last Crusade is my favorite, I really enjoy the father and son duo and their re-connection.
Marketing.
One question, would you like giving Indiana the same element as 007 of changing actors to do more movies?
Buffy Explained with Mollie Damon

So glad there's finally an Indie video :) :) :) MORE PLS
That’s just my opinion of course so if you disagree that’s good for you
@lordsofarnor4128, so would thoese 30 nazi be alive right now if indy wasn't there. Easy question.

You should do a video on all the Indiana Jones artifacts that have appeared in Star Wars
That one I really look like it to see.
Notice how it’s not called “The Lost Ark” it’s “Indiana Jones AND the raiders of the lost ark”
It is actually just called Raiders of the lost Ark.
When they made "Raiders of the Lost Ark" they didn't know there was gonna be a sequel. The original "Star Wars" wasn't called "A New Hope" even in the beginning scroll until it was successful enough to insure a sequel and then Lucas tacked "A New Hope" on it.
Indiana Jones gets the artifact, finds the resting place of the Ark, and the US gets the Ark from Indiana Jones
I’d take Indy over Star Wars every time.
My Best friend made this arguement that Indiana Jones doesn't affect the plot and it's nice to show her the importance of Indiana in the movie. And also is cool to see how you explain that the most important thing is the travel not end of the adventure
We all love doctor Jones!
Indiana Jones does affect the plot. Are these people even watching the movie at all?
I love this! Definitely would love to see more
Yep, the treasure in an adventure story is ALWAYS a Maguffin!
This was great!
I'd heard this theory but never paid much attention to it so it's good to hear an opposing view. Keep up the Jones videos. I'd be interested in your thoughts on Crystal Skull...I've not watched it since it was in theaters.
So the real treasure is the friends we made along the way
Yeah, you should do more of these. You're passionate about both, and you always make well thought-out observations and speculations. Bring 'em on!
This is one of the best videos you have made by far. Please continue doing more Indiana Jones content.
I look forward to your new Tucker A Man And His Dream channel.
"Added to Favorites" I enjoyed This The Last Crusade is my favorite
Love your content man! Always well thought out, and never reactionary. I hope you continue the Indiana Jones content too. The more discussion based on LucasFilm, the better - IMHO!
Keep em coming! We don’t hear anything positive anymore after Crystal Skull, it’d be cool to hear about some facts, fiction and theories about all the Indy’s. And if this is the only video that comes, thank you anyway!
Sounds like someone can't let go that Indy played no actual roll 🤣
Kudos Sir.
Me too
There’s something else everyone is missing: there is a deleted scene from the movie where the old man also informs Indy & Salah that anyone seeing inside the ark will die.
Saying Henry was useless to the plot is like questioning the crucifixion; the journey's the point.
I don't need any videos on the movies, but how about the TV-Series?
