JJ Redick went viral by ripping Doc Rivers for blaming other people for his failure and taking credit for others’ success. He actually has a point with the former Clippers coach but his rant was actually a big mistake.
I don’t see anything wrong with what JJ said. The show is literally called “First Take”. We want to listen to what the commentators say and how they analyze the game. Big fan of yours, but I don’t see JJ being the next Perk. We’re all thinking the same thing, JJ just has the moral and ethics to say what we all think of Doc.
It ain't hard to call out the guy everyone knows how overrated he is. I haven't seen anybody to support Doc. And JJ is no near Perk. JJ is really smart and try to prove his points with statistics too. Perk says any BS that comes to his mind. I'm not sure if he even watches the games, more like he just see the result, check out the players stats and that's it. We already have one clown. It's enough
@@majesty1842 Perk is trying to be the next Stephen A or Skip, baiting rage clicks. But he is dumber than either.
Nobody is allowed to have an opinion while being demonized by the mass media.
You don’t see him as being the next perk? You’d have a point if he didn’t switch to yelling his points to get them across. Keep in mind he didn’t start his job as an analyst like that. Instead people appreciated his levelheaded takes. He literally has copied parts of Perk and Stephen A’s style of analyzing. He makes overexaggerated takes here and there as well when again he was liked more for his level headed takes. He isn’t near perk but he copies heavily from him and Stephen A as his style tends to switch.
JJ didnt make any mistake. He just has the balls to call out the bs he sees
What BS is he calling out? When his teams underperforms he gets fired.
@@Watchingvideoslikeu did you not hear what he said? He's saying that doc doesn't take accountability
@@Watchingvideoslikeudoc can’t coach no matter how you wanna argue about it. His team “underperforms” because he gets out coached. The whole point of a coach is to draw out plays and even Maxey said himself there was nothing on the clipboard because he didn’t know what to do next when it really mattered.
He is the most pro player analyst, it's diguisting hearing some of the excuses he makes for the current players while shitting on old school players
@@ItzzShazeydoc is a horrible coach

I’m sorry, but JJ is just being straight-up.
We all laughed at the Doc announcement, so he’s just saying it on live TV and that’s now a bad thing?
Oh, he knows. Every one of us who clicked, commented, etc, just got baited.
Having Doc as a coach is like pissing against the wind.
@@jajanka10 it’s getting clicks and views but that doesn’t mean it’s not the truth. Rivers never makes adjustments, players that played for him openly talk about how awful he is in the playoffs. What other coach do so many players talk about like that? Dude won a single title in 2 decades with 3 HOF’ers and been choking in the playoffs every year. How he gets jobs still is beyond me
Sound like why JJ never became a champion.
Jj is straight up…unless you’re a current player or wants you to come on his podcast. That’s not being straight up, that’s being an opportunist.
Well, JJ is right. That's really what it matters.
Pat obviously will suck up to get play time. Other players obviously support Glenn Rivers because with him coaching Bucks you get rid of a serious contender.
Jj with obvious bias take
I honestly didn't know his first name. I knew Doc wasn't his name but still...
@@SadaEKEbetter names to call him by: Fraud Rivers, Old man Rivers, 2 brain cell Rivers, or Austin Rivers’ Dad.
@@xavierb9061 Being bias does not mean he is incorrect. He is in fact spot on. If anything he is way too lenient on his take.
Patrick Beverly is known for excessive groveling and sucking up to his team and teammates. Every time. He goes in to say Harden is the best player, KAT is the best player, Embiid is the best player, and now Giannis is the best player. I mean praising is good, but doing it to this degree makes it seem disingenuous.
Doc also threw that Clipper’s team under the bus and deflected responsibility saying, “That team was never going to win”. JJ talked about that on his podcast a year ago when Doc said that.
That's some cold stuff to say about your players.
waiting for an active player to say we are never going to win with this coach. Probably something Giannis will do eventually lol
i think this is what made JJ like this to him. Usually, JJ was quiet about overated Doc but when he heard of that, he was really surprised. He and Jamal talk about it right away.
Imagine Nick Nurse the year Toronto got it, to give up on the team because you know, that team was never going to win....
This Doctor Rivers is always put his pants on too fast. He is need for stop this. Everybody know this.

JJ didn’t do it for clicks. He did it bc he thought it was right. Didn’t look like he was hamming. He’s not Perkins or any clickbait commentator and he’s not trying to be. Everyone’s allowed a rant once in a while.
JJ speaks the truth. He provides astute commentary of an opaque world to his viewers and we appreciate him for it.
Sorry, but you completely missed the mark on this video. JJ Redick didn't "make a mistake" with anything, he was rightfully calling out BS from a person he has firsthand experience with. The only backlash you showed in the video was from Pat Bev (who currently plays under Doc) and Austin Rivers (literally his son), so of course they're gonna support Doc. Saying he's "trying to be the next Kendrick Perkins" is just ridiculous when he's one of the best NBA commentators/analysts currently
Come on….guess it’s a slow news cycle around the NBA.
JJ’s take wasn’t that controversial. Everyone is just getting butt hurt about it.
And Pat Bev? 😂 Dude is not a reputable source. I learned whatever the truth is is the opposite of whatever that bum is spitting out.
JJ is one of the best talking heads in any NBA media; he’s usually the most level headed and even keeled. Screw this fabricated outrage . Y’all are usually at Doc Rivers throat.
There is no doubt he has not mentally prepared any of his teams for the end of the season ... Now is just the middle of the season too.
Its because doc doesn’t actually coach. He walks in there like he is the shit, shakes a few hands before practice, yells nonsense a couple times and then tells his starts that they are responsible for the team and that they need to figure it out and execute.
The stars/vets love this because its easy, they don’t have to do any work, they never practice. Glenn’s teams always have top tier players so they easily beat lower level teams even without any strategies or teamwork. Then when the stars are injured all of the young promising players on his team that be refused to play end up playing with 110% effort and winning the game thinking that they will be able to earn playing time. 2 times in glenns coaching career he was forced to play a young superstar due to injuries and then the ownership stepped in to make sure he kept playing the young player when the vets came back.
Since Glenn doesn’t actually do any coaching, when his team plays in the playoffs he has no ideas for making adjustments. This is why he has so many blown leads because in a series the enemy makes an adjustment, and Glenn has no responses to those adjustments. He thinks he just needs to tell his players to play harder, and that execution is the only reason they are losing.
Nick Nurse is the complete opposite of that. He switches up his offense and defense like 10 times a game, and if a player isn’t playing well he takes them out and isn’t afraid to give the bench or gleaguers some real minutes, then when the gleaguer is balling out he leaves them in to finish the game. The end result has been that the Sixers have been remarkably consistent this year. When they play bad teams that get an early lead and hold or expand that lead. Games are never close against bad teams, unless most of the team is injured. Also, when they do have a bad first half, they always have a good 3rd quarter that brings them back into the game.
With that being said nick isn’t perfect. His problem is that he expects all of his players to give 110% at all times, and he distributes playing time based on effort. This has been a primary cause of many of sixers injuries, they have a lot of injuries happen in practice. Also, players like Maxey and Oubre have been losing their shooting legs because Nurse gives them 40+ minutes a game since those two guys are cardio monsters that are constantly running and thus never taken out. I’d much prefer Nurse’s style of coaching though because he at least rewards players for working hard.
JJ Redick is one of the smartest basketball minds. People need to listen to him and his takes more often
You do realize he's a media member at ESPN and actually just as the others say things to create narratives right?
JJ isnt one of the smartest. He's one of the loudest like most media members.
JJ is clearly biased. That Perkins, Stephen A, Nick Wright etc are even worse, doesnt make JJ 'one of the'
Loving the back to back uploads AM!!!
For future reference, the original title was “JJ Redick just made a huge mistake.”
JJ spoke no lies. But JJ doesn't have the pull, clout, weight, whatever you wanna call it... to be taken seriously calling out a "legend" like doc.
JJ spoke the truth. Doc needs to hear it.
JJ has responded on his podcast to say that he regrets how he said it but not what he said. He noted that much of that response has been trying to discredit him or point to his flaws as a player rather than dealing with the substance of the issue.
All in all it's just more drama for the NBA media circus.
Jj made a lot of enemies with his take 😂😂😂
Austin rivers is not only the main person who has benefited by doc but was also traded off the team with his father's blessing 🤣🤣🤣🤣
Just went back and watched the original first take clip. To be honest, what SAS said was more controversial than what JJ said. Neither SAS or SS disagreed with JJ’s take, in fact they went further and built on it. SAS knew JJ would get backlash because he was furious and very carefully added to the Doc criticism but in the most calm tone possible to diffuse the situation and show support for JJ. SAS is a legend at what he does.
One championship labeled Doc Rivers as a HOF coach…
He is the most overrated staff in basketball history (I didn’t say coach since he doesn’t know how to coach”
Yeah...almost beating Boston last season, while Harden vanished for the most part and your "MVP", who is primarily a regular season statpadder, didnt show up at all again!!! in the playoffs. Look at his stats/efficiency. If your two stars are more or less no-shows...what is he supposed to do? Just one example.^^ Not saying that he is without mistakes and hasnt problems to take accountability, but some people are really blaming him for everything, when it couldnt be more wrong.

Regarding the part about jj talking about the views he get discussing the details of basketball was engaging in hot takes. It was a response to stephen a saying that kevin durrant has a duty or that he should be teaching people more about basketball. And jj was making the point that the people don't really care about that.
JJ is the man, he knows what he’s saying, doc rivers can’t coach !!
Great take. Just like you, JJ trying to stay fresh. No crime in that. I am so proud of you for never posting Malika stuff. Hoops first.
It wasn’t an error it was a rightly timed criticism to a coach who has only has one chance, one shot to chase a championship title.
Doc gets blamed for everything that’s crazy.
Throwing your old players under the bus to save your own reputation is pathetic. He seems desperate to change the narrative about himself
The internet's been hating on Glenn Rivers for years, so it's funny to see JJ finally stop being low key about his Glenn hating. You'd hear it come out a bit in his podcasts every once in a while, calling him a "player's coach", but now it's mask off and it's hilarious. and Coach's son better watch out with his takes since he's the actual one whose career was saved by his dad signing him. I bet Glenn is the reason Austin has a job at ESPN too 😂😂
We get it, you know his name is Glenn.
@@victorugo3875 hey it's cool Austin. I know you just want to defend your dad.

He’s not taking accountability that’s what he said 🤷🏾♂️. He didn’t take the blame for losing in the bubble he said well that’s just the bubble 🤷🏾♂️
JJ Reddick knows the game that's how he went from his own podcast to being on ESPN. Reddick played for Doc in LA during the Lob City days, he saw it 1st in real time.
Doc as a coach is the same as when he was a player. Fun to watch. Knows basketball. Not entirely effective. He played on the Spurs toward the end of his career - and I always enjoyed rooting for him. But I can see how people are like, 'get someone new in here'... Spurs did.
In a recent podcast episode JJ did say he did not regret the content of what he said, but he wished he would have delivered it in a less acerbic manner. I mean it's probably happened to a lot of us before, so I sympathize with him. He might have been thinking about the Doc stuff analytically for days, and the more he thought about it the more reasons he'd find for it to piss him off, and when he decides to bring it up on First Take he suddenly explodes, before wondering why he got so worked up about it 5 minutes later. I don't think he wants to be the "intelligent Kendrick Perkins" guy, I think this one outburst at least was just him getting swept up in the frustration.
Also I think JJ is too intelligent to not be aware that educational content will always have fewer views than outrage content. First Take must really be pushing his buttons. Plus, that statement was in defense of KD, when SAS said KD could be doing more to educate fans about basketball or something to that effect.
He always blames the players.... ALWAYS. And he should have protected ben simmons, not attack him..... JJ is completely right
Josh Smith was a killer, he could take over games at times
I don’t think JJ went on the rant for engagement, I think he just feels strongly about it because of his own experiences with Doc. The reasoning aside tho, hes right lol so who cares
Doc is an ideal position to be a escape goat if they fail. Coaches dont play...players do.
All facts, no printer
What is getting lost in all this is that the sports media world and fans all went onto social media and started bashing Doc before he was hired. This all happened during down times in sports when the "talking heads" have to much time and have been waiting for Doc to say anything to spin it in a negative way.
JJ made zero mistake in this occassion
Kawhi wanting a second star to go with him to la has been well-documented and was reported that it would've basically been a dealbreaker if they couldn't secure a 2nd star. Not sure why doc should get criticism for that when the clippers have a really hands on owner and people in their front office like jerry west and lawrence frank who probably had more influence than doc on personnel decisions at that point.
JJ Redick said what EVERYONE already knew. The difference was JJ had the balls to speak up. Adrian Griffin didn’t deserve to be fired and Doc Rivers is the most protected coach in the HISTORY of the NBA
It is just amazing how you always prep a few lines in the end to link back to a previous video, smart and well done.
JJ is the analyst we needed. So glad he was brought into the 1st take team
'it's personal...' because when Doc coached JJ the player got a chance to see the coach 'up close and personal' on a regular basis and saw the behavior he's calling out now.
We need someone with actual balls. SAS just kisses asses and raises his voice to cover his cowardness. This was 100% truth
As a Celtics fan I completely agree with jj take on doc, too many years not getting it done and then blaming everyone around him. I think Thibs is the reason we won in 08’ and people talking about bad defense from players, bruh doc wasn’t even drawing up the defensive schemes for the 08’ Celtics.
Doc milked that '08 championship more than the players. That team would've won even if they had a different coach.
I have read a humble quote, "Take the blame, give the Credit."
But I think Doc Rivers does it in reverse, "Take the Credit, give the Blame"
If someone give him the credit on what he is taking, (the shai, harden, and more, thing) thats good but talking about it and praising yourself is like kissing your own rooster.
I think you missed his point.
He wasn’t trying to lecture the audience on what they should like. He was responding to Stephen A saying the players, specifically Kevin Durant, have a responsibility to educate the masses on the intricacies of basketball. And JJ said “is it really?” He called Stephen A and the format and style of First Take to task for what they prioritize in reporting. He said it’s the media’s job to educate on those intricacies. He’s right. Because basketball when covered by ESPN and the like is akin to a soap opera.
It’s controlled by narrative. Whereas football you get more focus on strategy. There are former athletes who are now analysts break down film to educate the viewer. Its one of the best things about football season. NBA coverage isn’t dominated by Xs and Os but by the GOAT debate, beef, and Old Heads lamenting about the old days. Thats because the NBA built its brand on narrative over the last 40 years so thats what draws in the audience. JJ is refreshing because you learn more about why and how the NBA evolved instead of bitching about the change.
When Doc says “The clipper team that lost 3-1” He can be talking about TWO different Clipper teams!!
A coach needs to take accountability. All this could have have been avoided if he just said 'yeah I messed up'
Now his current players are gonna dislike him
I understand editing the story for time, but at the end you represented it like it was JJ's idea to bring up how fans want to be educated, that was SAS. And also it was the next day in regards to KD and leadership. If I hadn't seen both of these clips I might not have known how misleading your journalism was in this case. Otherwise I like your channel, but I'm now going to have to question your edits. Not ideal, AM.
JJ told the truth. Doc Rivers has a history of throwing players under the bus. What he did to Simmons was reprehensible, regardless of what you think of Simmons' talent. No coach should ever speak of a player on his team like that. Why would any team trust him?
@AMHoops Saying JJ is trying to be Perk is ridiculous. You may not have liked the delivery but what JJ actually said was right. Perk just saying the most ridiculous stuff possible for the attention/ clicks. There’s a BIG difference between the two.
When i first heard what happened and everyone’s response to it I thought JJ was trippin, but your take is so comprehensive and helps me see the big picture through the history.
Best years came because of who he played ‘with’, not who he played for. CP3, Blake, and DeAndre. Having Doc and Austin there was more of a hindrance than anything.
JJ owes Doc nothing. Austin is the one who would’ve been out of the league sooner if it wasn’t for Doc picking his son up when no one else wanted him.
JJ is the only guy in NBA media who had the balls to say the truth about Doc Rivers.
JJ is 100% right! Doc SUCKS!
Sorry I’m with JJ on this. I know many coaches blame players, but Doc is just so flagrant about it. About time someone called him out.
Doc said "CP3 was injured the first two games". - yup, I can see how that would be a direct cause to winning 3 out of 4 then lose 3 straight when he's back. SMH.
Idk why JJ said what he said then tried to say he doesn’t like drama or that the NBA pays too much attention to drama. I’d rather he completely back up his statements because I agree with him, Doc been doing people dirty
This time JJ is right. Everyone knows how overrated Doc as a coach is. I don't see problems here
nice video, always nice to watch your videos and get your point of view on things. helps also keep me up to date with NBA drama lol. because you're right, I'm too busy with my 2 year old and 1 hour commute to work, I wish I had more time to watch. keep up the good work
Doc Rivers is the TK Kirkland of the NBA. Nothing happens in the NBA without Rivers taking credit for it if it's a success.
Blame the coach when your butt is out there actually playing damn that says more about the players then the coach
JJ did what had to be done. Comparing him to Kendrick is mad disrespect… Kendrick yells out some goofy shit. JJ was right, at least
Could not believe the Bucks thought this was their guy. What could they possibly be looking at? Doc will get you to the playoffs and no further.
Mistake or not JJ was & is Right!! Life is tough, some Ppl need to Get over it! Now days in our society the Truth is a crime & a Sin.
Doc speaking from experience when he says that the pressure of the playoffs expose who you really are 😂
JJ was right, doc always throwing his players to media. We saw at Bucks roster, Simmons Atlanta game 7... Doc's career is terrible since Thibs left Boston. When doc gets a contender team, he always lost
It’s very UNLEADER LIKE to NOT TAKE RESPONSIBILITY. I’m with Jj on this
Doc needed 3 hall of famers in the right moment + one of the best assistant coaches ever to get 1 title. He has milked that title ever since.
I live in Orlando during the Rivers years and JJ ain't wrong and this shows Doc can't take criticism and he wants all the praise when they win but none of the smoke when they lose. Doc will throw anyone and everyone under the bus and will keep doing it as long as he can. JJ won't apologize or back down and he shouldn't because he is 100% right. It shows that Doc can't take it.
Austin Rivers is so cringe... They need to cut him out of segments involving his dad
Coach Daniels, I am not sure how believable that guy is, also released a video showing the constant coaching failures that doc rivers has committed.
He makes too few adjustments.
The nba players defending doc
The player: his son
People treating Ben "The L" Simmons like an MVP makes me laugh 😂😂😂
Never thought I would hear about Spencer Hawes again
I don't get why everyone defending doc's point is that he "saved" his career or JJ's best year was under doc. That's not JJ's point, all he was saying was that Doc never held himself accountable, always excuses after excuses.
And no, austin river's rebutal to JJ reddick wasn't a slam dunk because all he said was the media and us fans hold him accountable on top of the management as well. That applies to literally EVERYONE. That's not JJ's point, his point was that Doc HIMSELF never held himself accountable
Not sure about the comparison between Redick and Perkins. There's a huge difference in substance between Redick vs Perkins because there's level of intellect and logic behind what Redick says whereas Perkins would more often than not spew ignorant nonsense. There was nothing wrong with what he said about Rivers. What I didn't get is the whole blip about Kevin Durant but then I guess it was in response to what Stephen A Smith was saying (about Durant not educating people) and I think that was also bunch of nonsense.
I'm team JJ on this one.
Phil Jackson points more fingers per loss than any human I've seen. After he lost to my Pistons in 2004 I read his book The Last Season: A Team In Search of Its Soul and was surprised to learn nothing was his fault, according to him, and everyone was an idiot but him. How about adjusting to the Pistons picking up Kobe a little higher in their half-court defense, instead of beating your head against the wall for 5 straight games?
Comparative analysis is needed to keep tethered to reality. Then we can judge if JJ's argument is logical, which it may be.
Coaches say SO much publicly, especially those with TV gigs. What's the ratio of coaches criticizing players in public vs criticizing themselves? Doc may be on the low end. Easy to cherry pick to fit a narrative.
Doc is right about Ben Simmons, which we can all agree on.
