Being in control of your own experience is the best benefit for me. Recently Xbox had an UI update that basically shoves ads in your dashboard, and removes some customization options. And no, you can't change back. Microsoft is in control. Makes you feel like you just rented your console, it was never really yours. The PS5 also removed a lot of customization options in favor of showing more ads. This is really the worst consoe generation, despite being the best in terms of hardware.

While I agree with most things you mentioned (I have both a PC and a console). Pay to play online is only necessary if you are playing PAID games. All the free to play games do not require that subscription (Fortnite, Warzone etc). Another thing, on playstation you can share your subscription with a friend/family member. On my console, I give half of the yearly subscription payment to a friend which brings the cost down to $30/yearly each. I can't even remember the last time I spent more than $40 for a game, wether it was on console or PC, both have great sales. Lastly, you do not need to have PS Plus in order to enjoy your Netflix Subscription, they are 2 complete separate things. To be honest, I've spent much more money on PC, PC upgrades etc in the last 7years than what I've spent on my Playstation. And I'm ok with that considering how much more the PC has to offer in the end. The choice really depends on the games you play and how you want to play them. If you play a lot of competitive games, I would say PC might be better for you.

Yeah Consoles honestly aren't worth the asking price anymore when a PC offers so much more like better graphics, performance, more games, emulations, mods and many other features alongside things the Consoles can never do such as Video editing, model programs, research, ability to do work and many more. Switching to PC back in 2017 was probably the smartest move I've ever made as I've been able to do so much more than Consoles ever could.

This is exactly what I did. I reanalyzed all the costs that aren't upfront that I was dealing with on the Xbox, and I finally dove deep into specs. I started to understand the parts that make up a console, and realized that most of those parts are in a PC too, just at a much lesser value. The parts in a console are not designed to last longer/run well when the next gen consoles come out. I accepted the truth that it's a scam, so I built a PC last week. Much more money upfront, but I have already built a very strong library of games and other types of software only spending about $200... I was expecting to drop over $500 to really get the experience going. So the differences are *immediate.* You should really take his advice and get to building

I'm an IT guy, I can deal with all of that on a PC, but my fiance and son can't. Since I rarely get to game anymore, I don't have the time to keep PCs updated for them. That being said, Sony. Ms, and Nintendo are trying their hardest to make that edge dissappear too. The networking requirements for all of them (especially the switch that basically requires you to not have a firewall) is getting beyond ridiculous. Also having to have accounts with the game devs, and the console devs and keeping them all linked up is a PITA.

Consoles limit you in so many ways. Plus there is the added benefit of playing games illegaly which is totally free. You save thousands of dollars in the log run. Not to talk about that there are so many games only playable on a pc like starcraft, dota... games that require a mouse and keyboard. And tou can always upgrade your pc parts: buy a better gpu, camera, cpu, rams and so on. You have the freedom of judging what you want instead of being locked with 1 hardware without any options.

I been saying this for years, and people dont want to accept it. 500$ console 7 years of subscriptions youre 900$ that doesnt include the people that have had to buy a 2nd or multiple consoles due to failure, mid gen refresh, or sold and repurchased. The multiple controllers that fail over time those add up.
Ive used the same mouse and keyboard for 7 years and same controller for those few games that just play better with a controller (racing, or older titles that just move better with controller cuz of camera angles)
But lets go back. Ps4 and xbone to now ps5 and xs you bought those consoles and pay their subscriptions fees just over 10yrs in add that up youre in high end pc range.
Ive had the same pc build for 7 years now and only upgraded my GPU this month.
Lets scratch the need to upgrade a pc every year BS cuz thats not true if you think it is look up a game you play and google pc specs for that game youll find minimum specs and recommended specs and 99% of the time the recommended specs dont even ask for the new shiny hardware. Games now in 2023/2024 are asking minimum specs to be 10 series cards which debuted in 2015/2016 to run smoothly. Not only is pc cheaper long term itll last longer. Not everyone is running 30 and 40 series cards right now or AMD's 6000 and 7000 series cards.

Here's my take on this argument. Yes, pc is objectively better than console. But it isn't without its issues. Most people in the world just want to play their games and not have to worry about compatible parts, assembling the pc, installing drivers, whether to go with amd or intel, how high can they overclock it. There is also cost; while pc doesn't have a monthly payment for online play, if you want to play most AAA games at 1440p 60fps you'll have to shill out 1000 dollars. While yes, over time it becomes costly, in 8 years with most online services, you'll end up spending 980 bucks over 8 years which is often the lifetime of a console. But in my opinion, who cares. Play your games on whatever console you want, it really doesn't matter that much.

That’s my thought. I play on both and the small cost difference on the console is negligible, and for that cost difference you get a streamlined experience as well as less cheaters online. People think you have to worry about these things but in almost all cases you do not. If you really can't figure out which parts are compatible with what (which pretty much boils down to CPU and motherboard), get a pre-built. If you do figure that out, the rest of what you said doesn't matter. Intel or AMD? Doesn't matter. Drivers? Install automatically on PC and have been for years. Overclock? Not even I do that. Like, who cares.
Problem is, on console your continued payments go towards hot air while on PC your hardware spendings go into a better gaming experience. I'd rather choose the latter.

Idc about value. I'm not getting scammed personally. My last PC build cost me 2k. My favorite games all-time are exclusively on PlayStation. I probably know everything there is to know about PC building, having built and sold over a dozen with 100% satisfaction. I play competitive shooters on PC, 2 monitors 1440p 144hz and 1080p 240hz. I play shooters on PC for the high refresh and M&K. I also enjoy the console infrastructure and ease of use. If I play a PC game on my couch with my controller, I then have to get up and walk to my PC to change the game, it cant be done from the couch easily.
I still use PS for the games, which PC doesnt offer. I even keep an Xbox for some older games like playing CoD world at war zombies online, where it is 100% dead on PC. Also I use a 4KTV for longplay and the new consoles and my PC are indistinguishable. I like emulation on PC but again that really has nothing to do with new games. PC + PS5 is the way for me. Nintendo is the real scam, regurgitating IP's for years and years and weak ass consoles you speak on it like you have one..(switch is weak af for AAA) It's not a scam it's just expensive. But the PS5 and XSX are on par with mid range PC's atm for only $500. Far from a scam.

Well, I have a good PC, PS5 and Switch. For consoles I hate the pay to play online part. So I don‘t buy online games for PS5. Other than that not too much to complaint about. I mostly play one game at a time and dont have the need to keep 10+ games on my ssd. I currently have 6 major games installed and still no storage problem. And with a good internet connection what is the deal waiting a few minutes to download and install?
What I see on PC market in recent times is frustrating. So many horrible PC game releases. Bugged and unfinished games are released to PC. At least Sony takes care of a decent quality control and if shit hits the fan they remove them from the store, like Cyberpunk. In general there are less game breaking issues on the console releases because of the non QC policy on Steam, Epic, etc.
Additional I can buy used console games for cheaper price and also sell again after I finished them. On PC I can‘t do that. That saves me also a lot of money.
So in the end there are pros and cons for both sides. Depending on which type of gamer you are. But to say that PC should be always the preferred platform is ridiculous.

Mate, I've been a gamer since '95. I've gone through all generations of PCs and consoles. I switched completely to PC in 2006, but happily returned to consoles in 2020, and yes, the experience is better than ever.
You talk about spending money on games and services for consoles, which is true. However, don't forget that the PC Master Race also deals with the constant need for the latest and greatest hardware-upgrading GPUs, CPUs, and PSUs every couple of years, and spending time tweaking settings for each game. PCs and Windows can present numerous issues, like dealing with shooter problems and many other technical challenges.
Sure, consoles might not match the graphics and FPS capabilities of a high-end PC, but with just two steps-picking up the gamepad and pressing the power button-I'm in the game, while you might still be troubleshooting.
By the way, don't get me wrong. I've worked in tech support for years, and currently, I'm a front-end web developer with a dust-covered PC housing a 3080, so I speak from experience.

i am a Avid PC user, and to me personally, PCs is more Bang for your buck and is better overall for user experience, Console games to me always feel just off, and while the PS5 and Xbox series X are nice enough to LET me plug in a keyboard and mouse, most the games on their consoles dont actually recongize them and forces me to use the Controller, which i dont like unless its Gundam, Mechwarrior, or any Nintendo game, i WILL not use a controller. even when you are allowed to use a keyboard and mouse on console (its very rare) multiple inputs at once just causes the game to choke and have no idea what you are doing. and while yes. free game good. give me games that people WANT to play again or want to PLAY and cannot. like idk the Good Gems of the previous platforms that everyone has seen and want to play again or want to try out for the first time. imho they shouldve just did what steam did with the steamdeck. Make the xbox and playstation a literal PC, but with bonus extra features to make it seem worth it to play 5 feet away from the screen. *which is another bigger reason i hate consoles. i have bad eyesight so i need to be close to the screen*

    • @Thornskade
      @Thornskade 2 года назад +1

You don't own your games just because you have physical copies. The problem is DRM. A DRM-free digital game, you own. A DRM physical game, you own a little less.
Consoles are a much bigger issue when it comes to game ownership because they are closed, proprietary systems, and thus effectively the DRM itself. When you made that comment, PS4s were actually still able to turn into bricks by having the system clock battery die. If Sony hadn't very recently issued a firmware patch, PS4 games would have been unplayable in the near future. That can still happen, too. Once Sony stops producing PS4s and the systems have died, do you really own your games? The best you can hope for is a PS4 emulator on PC. And that's where we're now with several old consoles already.
On PC, even if a game has DRM, the vast majority of the time you can crack it. Any DRM-free game on PC you own far more than any console game.

You also mentioned learning curve in PC. Troubleshooting is annoying my nephews play on PC and not interested in the hardware so I do fixing when something comes up. Backward compatibility and free online is better in PC. If you want to play in a TV consoles are still the better option even if you can do it in PC. Some games just works better in consoles like NBA without graphics tinkering not to mention their handful great 1st party games that you may like. If you can only own one then go for a PC but a console is a good complementary.

@@altacc1795 Yes, I got Windows for free but I wonder why other people still says its not free. I play PC almost exclusively now so I know the sales and I got lot of games free. As for the controller many games now are console ports with no proper keyboard and mouse support so not buying one may give sub par experience compared to consoles but yes to each his own. I am up there that prefers PC but to just say that consoles are scam is not entirely true. Like I said both has merits and cant be compared one to one because they are still a bit different experience.

I'm going back to console. I'm just after simplicity. The only thing I need to worry about on console is game/system updates. Beyond that, it's just gaming with no BS. No trying to find the perfect settings, no trying to figure out why my performance isn't what it should be, no 9-10 different game launchers to worry about. It was fun, but I'm tired now.

I, on the other hand, faced on consoles with the fact that I can get a game that works just disgusting, like Cyberpunk 2077 or Bloodbourne. And I cannot change the graphics settings or do anything to fix this problem. I have to put up with terrible brakes or just delete the game. I can't even get the money back for it! Because Sony does not have a normal refund function.

@@pepejoyjoy6656 I was talking about it not working with PCSX2.
I wonder why it is like this.
I think I never used it for anything else. Also had to tape it to the cord because it was constantly disconnecting.

I remember as a kid i was so excited when the ps4 came out. Now i look at the ps5 as a joke. I dont think i will ever buy a consle again. The main purpose of consles were to have multiple people play on 1 system and now almost all games are single player. Most of the games i play dont have much support on consles anymore as well. Since PC is more open source and you can use a consle controller if you want and not have to pay a yearly subscription consles are completely worthless.

I love pc gaming and it seems but the start up cost is just way to steep.

It depend if you want play newest games on max setting it is big investment but PC are modular and upgradable so you can start small and invest more over time. If you do your research you dan definitely build decent gamin PC for 500 bucks the cost of console. Consoles are PC build from PC components its just trimmed down version version PC witch custom OS with no cross console and backward compatibility for no reason at all. Everything is programmed on pc and then ported to console version.

When you buy a a console you simply don't own the device. It's a rental model.

@@Daveosbeatz Sure, but say good buy to online...
It's just stupid needing to pay a
      subscription to play online.
Or playing for free to play games
