88 Trig Point Challenge 2023 - Brown Knoll. Trig 4 of 88. 84 to go. Another beautiful hike in the Peak District National Park with Anita, my hiking buddy. This was a 9.69 mile circular hike from Edale taking in one Trig for myself and two Ethels for Anita. The weather was beautiful although it was kept cool with a cold wind. I really enjoyed this hike.
Awesome work. Amazing professional job. Good for you. Way to go. Without a doubt thumbs up. Thanks. Have a wonderful day. With respect and full support, composer Yuriy Saliy.
You finally had a nice sunny day with blue skies! That was a great hike with beautiful views. You now have four trigs down and eighty-four to go. I always enjoy your commentary at the end of your videos. Have a great day!
Hi Anita,Thank you so much for watching and your continued support. It is the first hike this year where we haven't sank into mud up to our knees or been soaking wet. Luck had to turn in our favour eventually. Punxsutawney Phil certainly got it right this year. The views are spectacular. I appreciate the comment about my oratory or wrap-up commentary. It is probably just my vlogs, but I always think if I hadn't said something, then it feels a bit flat when I rewatch them. I hope you have a fantastic Easter weekend. We have an extra two official days off for Easter, Friday & Monday. (Public Holidays? - Bank Holidays they are called over this side of the pond). Amanda is working tomorrow, unfortunately, so I'm out on another Trig hunt after I drop her at work.
@@chrisbentleywalkingandrambling Yes the weather is finally turning here as well and I think we are just going to jump right from winter to summer, with maybe 2 days of spring. I hope that you have a fantastic Easter weekend as well. We'll be spending it with my family here in Minnesota. Take care!
It certainly was Rachel. Sunshine, but not the hot kind, but it made for beautiful views. Thank you for your continued support. I really appreciate it.
Thank you Jon, it certainly was beautiful up there. It was cold on the exposed hills/slopes, but Summer is definitely on its way. Thank you for your continued support. I know I say it every time, but I really do appreciate it.
Brilliant Chris....You can understand that when on days like this nothing compares to the Peak District...love it...The Lords Seat is an amazing barrow but the famous, or infamous Thomas Bateman performed another of his digs....what fantastic views and a much happier Chris....glad you are enjoying it like I am watching it...Cheers Lez.
It was a really nice hike Lez. I think that the fact that we didn't get soaked within the first 5 minutes was a great advantage. Even when I get soaked, I have fun, but to have a hike with zero rain and mud certainly does lift the spirits. Every hiker should hike their own hike, and in the Ethel Challenge, I was target focused. This time, I'm sitting back and mapping a circular route out prior to the hike and enjoying the journey more. My confidence in map reading has also increased, which allows me to venture a bit further. As for Lord's Seat, yes, another butchered dig sadly. So spirits were high, temperatures were definitely improved, and Anita agreed this was the first hike this year that wasn't subzero or pouring down. Definitely a very enjoyable hike with the Navigator. Thank you as always Lez for your continued support. I really do appreciate it.
@@chrisbentleywalkingandrambling Totally loving it Chris....bet you cannot believe what you are doing now compared to when first started.....Respect to you my friend....Chers Lez.
I'd love it. In England we get cold or less cold. Sumner here is usually 80f and on extremes hits hi 90s but usually 80s. But Winter is probably mild to you, too. -2c to -5c, but with Global Warming, we have hit -10c a few times, too. But yeah, on average, Winter down to -5c and Summer generally high 70s to mid 80s. Any more than that and we melt. We complain about the heat of Summer and the cold of Winter. Brits always complain about the weather, we are never happy. Hawaii would be ideal for me. Constantly between the high 70s and mid 80s. Perfect weather, we love it.
What an amazing adventure in the Peak District National Park! 🌳🌞 The hike from Edale was worth every step, and the views were simply breathtaking. 😍 Thanks for sharing this incredible journey with us, Chris! Your videos keep getting better, and I can't wait to see the next one. Keep exploring and enjoying the beauty of nature! 👍🎥🍃
This looked so nice Chris , nearly 10 mile walk for you both but so busy hehe Easter holidays with man and dogs! Beautiful day though and a lot of steps:) ~ Anna
Those steps up Jacob's Ladder seemed never ending. The worst part of it is the stones are not laid flat they are put in end on, so it's like hiking up on jagged cobbles. I feel it will be busy for the full two weeks with School being out. It certainly was a beautiful day, Anita. Thank you for your continued support. I really appreciate it.
It was a beautiful day, Steven. It is the first day this year that I haven't been either wet through, blown over, or knee-deep in mud. I'm really enjoying hiking a circular route now I'm more confident with the map reading. Thank you as always for your support.
Nice to be out with you on your walks. You picked a pleasant day to enjoy the wide open spaces around you. Looked a bit windy though. Agreed the scenery is much better to experience than film. Glad you made it to your trig mission.
Thank you. Yes, it is usually windy on my hikes. Margery Hill was hiked in 75mph winds. Now that was windy. But this day was cold in the wind and warm in the lee of the hills. Yes, the view with the naked eye is unfiltered and more beautiful, that is for certain. Thank you for your continued support. I really appreciate it.
@Chris Bentley Walking and Rambling watching for a while. Some of your ethals have helped me and my better half plan ours out. Need to do most ethals North of Buxton. Also remaining trigs are all North of Buxton
At the start and quite a long way through, I do out and backs. I didn't have the confidence in my map reading abilities to plot and follow a circular route. I'm more confident now. Hence the rant on Dead Edge End first time around. There was one Subscriber constantly putting me down. But I just wasn't confident back then. Mind you 10 miles is about it for me. I'm riddled with arthritis so it takes it out of me. I am hoping to increase the stamina as I really want to do the Edale Skyline Challenge. But 20 miles is too much at the moment. I'm glad I can help out. I know I'll never get monetised, so if all I do with this channel is collect memories and form friendships, then it has served its purpose for me.
The Northern Ethels are definitely tough. The Crowden Horse Shoe is a hard one. I had to do all of them as singles. But next time I'll tackle the Horse Shoe as one. Hopefully.
The more i see the Peak District, there more I would love to explore it! Such gorgeous and wonderful landscapes that roll across each other! Especially on a gorgeous day like this, its the perfect place to be!
It is a perfect place to be. But where you are has staggering beauty too. I must admit that I wish I had ventured out of my comfort zone years ago and done this. But there is no time for regret. Thank you for your continued support, I really appreciate it.
Wow, it sounds like the 88 Trig Point Challenge - Brown Knoll is quite the adventure! It's great to see that you are taking on this challenge and exploring the beautiful scenery around Edale. The hike starting at the public car park and continuing along the Pennine Way sounds like a great way to take in the natural beauty of the area. It's also great to see that you made the smart choice of opting for the all-day parking, knowing that the hike would take longer than four hours. Good luck with the remaining 84 trig points, and enjoy the journey as you continue to explore and discover new parts of the countryside!
It certainly was beautiful up there. I normally park for free, but I thought it was best to let people know they needed change at that car park. Thank you for watching and commenting. I really appreciate it.
I get to hike with Anita every week or so when she is free, but the views up there were breathtaking. I really enjoyed this one. Thank you for your continued support, Nick & and Jill. I really appreciate it.
It is really beautiful. I have seen it on many vlogs but this is the first time there myself. The whole countryside around there is rocks, peat bogs, resevoirs and beautiful hiking. It is coming to the end of my first year hiking in The Peak District National Park and it never fails to please. Thank you for watching and commenting I really appreciate it.

That's a lovely area, great paths, and great views. I've never been to this area but must do so sometime. I liked the names of the routes and hills, adds to the whole experience. That bridge was epic indeed. Regards, Ashley
It is certainly a beautiful place to visit and hike Ashley. Places like Mam Tor are high traffic areas as they are so accessible and Kinder via Jacob's Ladder is a hive of activity at the weekend. I'm lucky I can go during the week. I only started hiking in The Peak District after I retired. But I'm loving it. Thank you for watching, commenting, and subscribing, Ashley. I really do appreciate it. Vlogs are released once a week, rain or shine.
@@chrisbentleywalkingandrambling Chris, I’m retired myself, still a runner but slower! I love the Lake District and we get over once a year. Haven’t made too many videos this year due to weather and a minor op but working on one at the moment. I like videos that are not too fancy, real and raw!! Regards, Ashley
Well, you will certainly get real and raw off me, Ashley. I haven't worked out the music bit or the editing, and I haven't gotten a drone. My vlogs are a bit point and shoot, I'm afraid. I see something, stop, am in awe with the view, say the words beautiful a lot, and move on. I'm filming on my Samsung, and eventually I'll get a GoPro, but I want to be on the Peaks a year before I splash out. I'm old school, wait to see before you impulse buy. You will see I hike in all conditions. It takes 2hrs to get to the Peak District, and I'm conscious that it is £30 round trip, so when I arrive, I hike whatever the weather. I've subscribed to your channel also and have just watched your 8k vlog where you took a wrong turn.
@@chrisbentleywalkingandrambling Thanks Chris, i use Powerdirector for editing and it suits me. Music is there and its fairly straightforward to add in. I use a Osmo Action camera, not a gopro, and I'll never get a drone - i just don't like them as I've enough going on to go up and down the routes. Thanks for subscribing, our videos aren't technically brilliant, I make them for family and friends and am always surprised when others want to watch them!! regards, Ashley
Hi Dan, Thanks for watching and commenting. I'm definitely taking the 88 Trig Point Challenge in a more leisurely way. Each one will be a loop. I want to make them longer hikes each time if possible as I'm trying to get my endurance and stamina up. The plan, if it works, will be to complete the Edale Skyline hike. As you know, it's 20 miles. I've done a couple of 10s and a 13 miler, so I'm hoping to increase to a point that when the days are much longer, I can complete it. It's only a pipe dream at the moment and I'm wiped out after 10, but I'm hoping that if I step it up to 2 then 3 days a week at 10+ miles then hopefully the 20 will be achievable. But you know what it's like with stops to film, drink and rest. Yesterday's 9.69 miles was 5hrs, so 10-12 hours with stops is what I'm aiming for. If it turns out that I can't build the stamina/endurance, then I'll split it into a 2 day with an overnight wild camp, but I'd really like to do it in one. Thanks again for your continued support, Dan. I really appreciate it.
@Chris Bentley Walking and Rambling after I completed the Ethel challenge (15 months ago now 😮) my fitness dropped well off, good on ya keeping it up 👍
It helps with Anita still being on the challenge plus doing two challenges back to back. But bottom line Dan, I wouldn't be 3 1/2 stone lighter and a hell of a lot more active if it wasn't for you. I'd have retired, eaten just as bad, and just watched Netflix. I owe you one.
Another good job here Chris. Really gaining some. Momentum with the ew challenge. Quality really growing in the videos too. What a great day of weather you had for it! I've just started on my next video after a few weeks of respite from editing
Hi Alex. The new challenge has a bonus for me. Every goal has a Trig rather than a featureless mound, which some Ethels have been. Thank you for the compliment. I know I'll never hit your standard, but if I put out some memories that can be enjoyed by others, then that's a bonus. I am looking forward to your next video. They really do inspire me. Thank you for your continued support. I really do appreciate it.
@@chrisbentleywalkingandrambling thank you Chris. Yes I can see a trig point is a much more worthy goal and you're getting some serious distances in now too
i know i've only watched a handful, but this might be my favorite so far. i liked the walking along the water and views from the top. busy day until you split off! do you have a favorite one? or one you're really looking forward to on your quest? thanks for another beautiful hike chris! 🛴❤
Now, that is a great question. As it happens, this is my favourite recent hike for a couple of reasons. There was zero pressure to complete a target. My hiking stamina had improved, and I found it a really pleasurable hike. Plus, it was a hike where we didn't get wet, which is always a bonus. It is always nice to see Anita too. We used to work together, and both just love hiking. The most emotional for me was the last hike on my last challenge. I had to record the Peak twice as I did get too emotional. If you go back to my very first vlog where I failed to climb Mam Tor, and look at me now, you can see how far I've come. And looking at my About tab, you can see my difficulties. So this vlog and my Challenge Complete on Kinder Scout are my favourite of all time...... So far. Not many people go back to previous vlogs but do watch those two, the first ever one, and Challenge Complete one. I'm a different person. I would hate to think what I would have looked like if I had continued with the same lifestyle choices. Hiking has probably saved my life. Thank you for watching these back vlogs. Each one evokes memories and is special in their own way. Eventually, you will see Amanda, my wife. She doesn't like hiking but has been out on about four hikes so far. Thank you again for such a thought-provoking question. Have a great weekend.
@@chrisbentleywalkingandrambling i will have to check them out and congrats to you on your different journeys! i've done some lifestyle changes myself and am better for them. cheers, chris! 🛴❤
I noticed that I have changed my info. The original listed the following. 20% Disabled, riddled with arthritis, right wrist fused, right knee replacement, short right leg by 1in after motorbike accident and a Veteran. I think I changed it out after the first challenge. The info wasn't for sympathy, I put it in after a small section were commenting on how short my hikes are. After each hike, I'm out of action with the arthritis for about four days. So each time you see me smile, I'm in pain too. But it was also a way to show others that despite disabilities you can try new things and give it your all. Just because my hike 'is only 6 miles' it is the best I can do on that day. I would love to be able to hike 20 miles, but unfortunately, it isn't possible. If you watch Dead Edge End vlog, I get quite annoyed at those putting me down. But now I just ignore people like that or block them. Life is too short. Sorry for the ramble, but that's my back story. Non Combat Veteran 6 1/2 years in the Royal Air Force from 1979-1986. Now you will understand my rant if you ever see it. But thank you again for your comments, and I look forward to your next vlog.

Nice one you 2!
Is there any more news on the Dragon? Has the stonemason completed the head yet?
@@chrisbentleywalkingandrambling sadly not, seems I've been let down on a bit of the funding which is desperately concerning 😕
@@chrisbentleywalkingandrambling thank you for sharing all of this chris! i've got 5 & 6 queued up, hoping to get through to 7 & 8 too, as i see there's a new one up!
There is always a new one, lol. I normally just drop one a week, but as this one was a collaboration, I thought I'd put it out on the day of the hike. Steven, aka A Tramp In The Hills, has his own channel, which is far superior to mine. He is a great guy to hike with, very patient with my slowness and really funny too. This is the second time we have hiked together.
