RIP Paul and Clive. Will never forget how much this second Maiden album and song knocked my socks off before I was a teen. Thanks for putting Maiden on the map with music that was so exciting and energizing in its time and still is today.
They never had that same groove and feel after Clive left after TNOTB. The Killers album will always be my favorite Maiden. Loved his style of drumming.
Fully agree...The way Clive used to pay was a mix of power and technical and also very innovative at this time...I do not appreciate of Nicko is playing...with him the old songs as example do loose this kind of brutal energy.
Don't hate on me for saying this but I prefer Clive to Nicko, they're both great in their own way but when I saw hallowed be thy name live with Clive it was breathtaking but for as much as I love Nicko I've never got that same energy, up the irons 🖤
I went on a week long school trip when I was 13. My dad gave me this album on tape and I listened to it multiple times on the journey. I came back a rock guy, started playing guitar not long after and I’ve now been playing 21 years
Purgatory Thinking of an age, old dream Places I have never seen Fantasies lived times before I split my brain, melt through the floor Over clouds my mind will fly Forever now, I can't think why My body tries to leave my soul Is it me, I just don't know? Memories rising from the past The future shadows overcast Something's clutching at my head Through the darkness I'll be led Oh, another time, another place Oh well, another smile on another face When you see me floating up beside you You get the feeling that all my love's inside of you Please, take me away Take me away So far away Please, take me away Take me away So far away Please, take me away Take me away So far away Thinking of an age, old dream Places I have never seen Fantasies lived times before I split my brain, melt through the floor Over clouds my mind will fly Forever now, I can't think why My body tries to leave my soul Is it me, I just don't know? Memories rising from the past The future shadows overcast Something's clutching at my head Through the darkness I'll be led Oh, another time, another place Oh well, another smile on another face When you see me walking up beside you You get the feeling that all my love's inside of you Please, take me away Take me away So far away Please, take me away Take me away So far away Please, take me away Take me away So far away
With his authentic punk rock style of singing and rocknroll lifestyle, my personal favourite Maiden singer! R. I. P legend PAUL DI ANNO, you will never be forgotten💔😥😥😥
Purgatory is my fave Maiden song, from the best album, with the best singer. (but I like all Maiden eras, just early stuff is my personal taste). Rock on \m/
Don't care 'bout anything anyone says, I LOVE Purgatory. Speedy, punky Iron Maiden. Love the way the way the mix distills to just two guitars doing a harmony.
I loved Genghis khan from the moment I heard it back in 1982, of all their instrumentals it's my favourite, and so fast and hard to play. Up the Irons!
Total legend. Who else could bridge the gap between punk and rock? First metal singer imo. Sad he's gone but one of the most important singers England has ever produced. RIP Paul
Purgatory was the very first Iron Maiden song I ever heard. Hooked since. Powerslave was the first album I bought. Afterwards all the albums, singles, videos, box sets etc. Great memories. Up the Irons!
The Number of the Beast artwork was originally produced for this single but when the band saw it they thought it was too good for a single and they decided to hold it over for the next album. However, the Purgatory Devil/Eddie is probably my favourite Iron Maiden artwork.
Found my killers cd today. Love that record best times growin up as a teen playin maiden in 81 thrn getting to see them in ny and nj was my 2 best as of yet.12 bucks a ticket . Priestvwotld venteance tour too.rob Halfords voice was ear piercing and i though my ear was gonna explode it was so high pitched 😮
Sounds so clear, even through my phone. I love the clarity and intensity. Killers and Piece of Mind are my favorite albums from the Diano and Dickinson eras, respectively. I think the Ghenghis Khan track provided some inspiration for the original Doom computer game soundtrack - remember the courtyard scenes?
It's funny because the artwork for Number Of The Beast was supposed to be the artwork for the Purgatory single. They were talked into using the article for number of the beast instead and Purgatory got the artwork that's in this video
there's just something about the production on this record. it's easily the best sounding maiden record. there's a warmth to the bass that they just never got after this
Clive Burr & Paul Di'Anno top notch. Clive drums always swift, accurate, and balanced. Paul's vocals one of a kind. Imo, both had yet much more to offer.
Funny you say that. The original art for this single was the Number of the Beast artwork, but Rob Smallwood said it was too good to waste on a single. So we got this, which is still epic
Bruce was the one for Maiden, no doubt, but Paul was perfect for these first two albums. His delivery was always on the money, note-perfect with just the right amount of grit. Killers is always jostling for the top spot with Somewhere in Time. Lovely to see he's latterly got the respect he deserves and the band and fans have made sure he's looked after. I've lost count of the number of times I'd bang my head to this one in my room. I was just the right age (11/12) to catch the late 90s/early 00s remasters, and Maiden basically got me through school and on into adult life.
Rest in Peace Paul Di'Anno. Going to listen to a bunch of early Maiden tonight
Me too. RiP Paul. Up the irons.
same here! RIP Paul
14 year old kid back in 1980 this was my music , I stayed on the Maiden train ever since, RIP Paul
Rip Dianno
Hope this album influenced a million bands and keeps on doing it.forefathers if metal and with Sabbath
Paul may be gone, but his voice will live forever. RIP
The voice that made me fall in love with metal at first place. Rest in peace Paul.
That's exactly what I did 🤣
The best maiden's era.. Clive&Paul ❤
Can't agree more.
Absolutely
That shall remain. Stay strong.
R.I.P Paul and Clive !!!😢🌹🙏 Up the Irons!!!
RIP Paul Dianno (1958-2024) Up The Irons 🇬🇧 🤘
RIP Paul Di'Anno this one is hard to take! This is my favorite Iron Maiden song!
I love Purgatory, very underrated song in my opinion.
MrGollywock o un saludo, mis bendiciones
they need to play it live again
Di'Anno at his best..
One of my favorite songs of the Iron Maiden
I think so too 😊
RIP Paul Di'Anno. As much as I love Bruce Dickinson, you were the OG singer of Maiden and we will never forget that
RIP Paul one best 50ps ever spent on a 7inch single 🤘🤘
Very underrated drummer. RIP Clive Burr
Clive Burr was a machine gun
my favorite drummer ever even if since then I discovered many many drum monsters.
RIP paul, literally tearing up listening to this 😭😭 lost another legend today, rock on buddy, rock on 🤘❤️
RIP Paul and Clive. Will never forget how much this second Maiden album and song knocked my socks off before I was a teen. Thanks for putting Maiden on the map with music that was so exciting and energizing in its time and still is today.
Clive Burr was out of this world!!!!!
Rest in Power Paul!
What a sad day!
R.I.P Paul Di'anno. This is my favorite song with Paul. Hell of a Singer!
Now him and Clive are together 🤘🏽
I swear the first 2 albums are so raw and feel very street metal. This song is beyond cool
They never had that same groove and feel after Clive left after TNOTB. The Killers album will always be my favorite Maiden. Loved his style of drumming.
agree man. Clive's playing was so powerful!
Mr,Timebomb man I like Clive`s drumming as well as Nicko`s I dont feel it need be a competition
He really pushed everyone including steve to play as fast and hard as possible
As a drummer trying to play, Wrathchild is almost impossible because of Clive feel everything else sounds wrong
Fully agree...The way Clive used to pay was a mix of power and technical and also very innovative at this time...I do not appreciate of Nicko is playing...with him the old songs as example do loose this kind of brutal energy.
Clive is a god with those drums!
Amen✌️
Long live Clive....
Don't hate on me for saying this but I prefer Clive to Nicko, they're both great in their own way but when I saw hallowed be thy name live with Clive it was breathtaking but for as much as I love Nicko I've never got that same energy, up the irons 🖤
Steve killing it too
Unique technique.....La bestia detrás de las baquetas

Purgatory is simply my favorite song of this incredible band
W pfp
"Please take me away, take me away, so far away..." Exactly what I need. 😫
Paul and Rob Halford owned this era for British Heavy Metal, RIP,. Killers what an enduring masterpiece
Both songs are in my Iron Maiden top list! Although I love Bruce and all Maiden eras, this early Maiden style is unique! Up the Irons forever!!!!
You're goddamn right, man 🤘
NWOBHM in it´s purest form!
A unique mix of metal and punk that maiden never did again
@@endtyme😮n. N o ikb h y o 😅,,,a mano PP? T 😊8). Ok
That riff.

Purgatory is a damn Masterpiece but i think Genghis khan is a way underrated.
No words to explain the 5:06 moment. Supernatural!!! Amazing song.
So glad I am not alone on this.
Yeah I love genghis khan
For me it's more from 5:31 onwards... One of those Maiden songs that takes you another dimension.
I've always thought the exact same thing. Transports you
sounds like last resort by papa roach 🤔
I went on a week long school trip when I was 13.
My dad gave me this album on tape and I listened to it multiple times on the journey. I came back a rock guy, started playing guitar not long after and I’ve now been playing 21 years
Very cool, great album
Me too man. !! I was given a poster 1st and I went and bought a cassette
One of Paul's finest Pinnacle moments
Purgatory killers and debut rip Paul and clive your music lives on ...... Never forgotten
Purgatory
Thinking of an age, old dream
Places I have never seen
Fantasies lived times before
I split my brain, melt through the floor
Over clouds my mind will fly
Forever now, I can't think why
My body tries to leave my soul
Is it me, I just don't know?
Memories rising from the past
The future shadows overcast
Something's clutching at my head
Through the darkness I'll be led
Oh, another time, another place
Oh well, another smile on another face
When you see me floating up beside you
You get the feeling that all my love's inside of you
Please, take me away
Take me away
So far away
Please, take me away
Take me away
So far away
Please, take me away
Take me away
So far away
Thinking of an age, old dream
Places I have never seen
Fantasies lived times before
I split my brain, melt through the floor
Over clouds my mind will fly
Forever now, I can't think why
My body tries to leave my soul
Is it me, I just don't know?
Memories rising from the past
The future shadows overcast
Something's clutching at my head
Through the darkness I'll be led
Oh, another time, another place
Oh well, another smile on another face
When you see me walking up beside you
You get the feeling that all my love's inside of you
Please, take me away
Take me away
So far away
Please, take me away
Take me away
So far away
Please, take me away
Take me away
So far away
Still gives me chills after 35 years of listening.
With his authentic punk rock style of singing and rocknroll lifestyle, my personal favourite Maiden singer! R. I. P legend PAUL DI ANNO, you will never be forgotten💔😥😥😥
Just finished spinning both of my original presses of the Self Titled and "Killers" today in honor of Paul. May he rest easy and be out of pain. 💙💙
Purgatory is my fave Maiden song, from the best album, with the best singer. (but I like all Maiden eras, just early stuff is my personal taste). Rock on \m/

RIP Paul and Clive. What a gut punch. 💔😞
I loved Genghis khan from the moment I heard it back in 1982, of all their instrumentals it's my favourite, and so fast and hard to play. Up the Irons!
Purgatory is one their best. Top 10 Maiden song.
Total legend. Who else could bridge the gap between punk and rock? First metal singer imo. Sad he's gone but one of the most important singers England has ever produced. RIP Paul
That bass is unbelievable. 😱
Just thinking the same thing. Killer on the whole album and credit to the audio engineer.
Epic song... Awesome inspiration.. STELLAR drumming... R.I.P CLIVE

ROCK IN PEACE PAUL AND CLIVE ❤🤘❤️🇨🇦
How incredible is the pacing of this song. A very difficult song to master and Maiden could do it perfectly.
Fabuloso trabajo del productor Martin Birch en Purgatory...RIP Martin.
Rest in peace big Paul...
Grande Clive burr en la bateria, le dio esa fuerza y sonido típico de Maiden.
Y paul di anno ?????
Es otra cosa . Más que el florerito dickinson
The Mighty Iron Maiden 💪 😎🤘🤘🎸🍺🍺🇬🇧
❤❤❤ Rest in Power Paul.
Old school maiden very uplifting to me! I kinda wish they had more instrumentals.
Clive Burr was such a sick drummer .RIP ,
Genghis Khan, 5:30 and after, the best solo guitars ever, that's IRON MAIDEN!!! ❤❤❤❤❤❤
It takes you somewhere... I love the song as well, especially that part.
~ Up The Irons for Paul Di'Anno! RIP metal brother!
The Number of the Beast artwork was originally produced for this single but when the band saw it they thought it was too good for a single and they decided to hold it over for the next album. However, the Purgatory Devil/Eddie is probably my favourite Iron Maiden artwork.

Happy 40th aniversary to "Killers" album!!
Di'Anno in memoriam
What an awesome song is Purgatory. My Killers's favourite track
RIP Paul
awesome song. I collected all their singles and this was the most expensive to buy from record fairs.
CLIVE EXCELENT DRUMMER 🤟🤘🤟🤘🤟🤘🤟🤘TO HEAVEN RIP PAUL
One word to describe these songs: Legendary🎸
This is a very rare instance of a single with two album tracks. Mostly we bought it to display the artwork since both tracks are on Killers.
Rest in power paul 😢
I like how this song gets it's own cover and how awesome that cover is
It's funny because the artwork for Number Of The Beast was supposed to be the artwork for the Purgatory single. They were talked into using the article for number of the beast instead and Purgatory got the artwork that's in this video

3:19 masterpiece sound... One of the best of Maiden
Please take me away ...so far away
Mi primer álbum de Iron Maiden tenia 18 años, no paraba de escuchar Purgatory, que grandes Paul y Clive
La voz de Paul es extraordinaria
Anyone that says Paul was inferior to Bruce is on crack. Just different styles. This tune is proof of how great his pipes were back then.
Agreed.
Paul better
Paul is way better.
No fuckin way
Bruce is on another level
Both are great fellas
Top 5 Maiden songs on Di Anno era

In 1981 Iron Maiden was the best band on earth. This song is fireee ❤
Ghengis Khan es una pequeña obra maestra!!!!!
This is the pinnacle of human artistic achievement
Punky metal which still stands test of time. Burr by far Maidens best drummer
Do not mention "punk" to Steve Harris...
Paul D'anno in his absolute prime, he will always be Original Iron Maiden
IRON MAIDEN PURGATORY , MY LOVE SONG.
