Common issues with the capture device 1: No video 2: High Contrast / Low Contrast 3: No audio 4: Static Sounds / White Noise To solve this: It is best to buy / exchange your capture device. After all, these devices are cheap and probably do not go through rigorous quality control. I solved my issues by getting a new one.
This is not a troubleshoot video but I am assume it’s a bad transfer cable. I’ve had cracking or popping sounds with OBS or Quicktime and it was definitely the transfer cable. Bought a new one and it was fixed.
Hi Russell, What do you suggest if I don't see my capture card in QT 'Camera'. I only see it under 'Microphone' setting This is the equivalent of 3:28 on your video. Suggestions? Otherwise wa great video Russell!
I’ve never had that happened to me before and that’s strange to hear to that the microphone is only connected. my guess is that the device may be defective. i had an issue with audio so i just bought a new one and it worked just fine. perhaps try it on a different mac device and see if you get the same thing.
Great video! Does the capture card select the aspect ratio? I was recording off of a VCR which should display in 4:3, but the Quicktime window was 16:9. Does Quicktime allow you to switch that setting?
Thanks for the tutorial! Do you know how to change the aspect ratio in quicktime? I am trying to do the same thing and it is forcing a widescreen ratio and I'd like it to be the original 4:3 so the video doesn't look stretched.
Quicktime doesn't allow to change the aspect ratio. I don't think that its needed with this transfer. What you see on this video is what you get; which is the footage straight from your camera. I don't see any stretching or distortion from how I am doing it. The clip at the end of this video was thrown into a 720p format project on Final Cut Pro and it retains 4:3.
@@russellrabanal thanks for the confirmation. It must be the specific adapter I bought then only outputting at that widescreen aspect ratio. Thankfully OBS lets you choose the ratio.
It has to do with your capture device. I have a composite to hdmi adapter and using an USB HDMI capture device and I’m also getting either 720p or 1080p as my only options. I’m gonna have to find a different capture device that keeps that 4:3 ratio.
@@charminbaer2323 Thanks for the confirmation! I found that using OBS I can select the resolution of the input device. There the audio doesn't track with the video, but I can fix that relatively easy once its digitized. Hope that helps you!
@@spencerbarron6376 I was able to fix the aspect ratio in Final Cut Pro and also compress it down to a more reasonable size as well. I originally captured my first video on QuickTime at maximum using the 720p aspect ratio, and a 1hr 15min video was something insane like 150GB file size. I don’t remember if I used h.264 or h.265, but I was able to get a ~2gb video file. I ordered a new capture device from Amazon that takes composite straight to USB and outputs 480p video with 4:3 aspect ratio. It’s coming in later today so I’ll report back my findings.
Hi there, I think the best way to get that adapter is through eBay. I think the best deal would be the ones under needing repair or is broken - and that's if they include the adapter.
Hello there, I recently bought a Panasonic Omni movie x8 vhs camera, I’m having trouble finding the charger. the battery is fully charged and all but I am having trouble trying to know what type of charger it actually needs 🥲….is there a difference in all the other chargers for other panasonic vhs recorders
Mine came out in the early 90s and if there is a huge year gap between the models, I'd say that the chargers would be different. my suggestion might be a little costly, but I would get a broken camera that is similar to yours with a working charger.

I got my video and sound to play from my quicktime using my jvc camcorder but it only records 2 seconds of the vhs , any tips would help
Why would I hear crackling, clicking, and popping during VHS playback on QuickTime, but not when I hook up the same VCR onto a TV?

Why would I see pink and blue lines on a VHS image if using QuickTime? How do I get rid of them during playback?
I don’t know. Never experienced that. Could be a faulty transfer cable.
How do I change the brightness settings on the image if attempting to convert VHS tapes on QuickTime?
Changing brightness/exposure needs to be done by post processing. Best to control your exposure before you even film anything.

Omg this is so helpful!! thank you so much!!!
Thanks for watching! Glad it helped 😀
Hi. Where did you get the adapter that plugs into the back of the camcorder? I can’t find it online.

Do you get allot of dropped frames with this technique. I’ve been getting bad dropped frames using older capture card and computer.
yeah you’re going to need a computer with better performance. i have a macbook m1 and it works fine.
