Fantastic video. I had fun watching this pair make 5 or 6 passes at Walbridge until about 9:30pm tonight. I heard the K5H twice from home and raced over to hear it in person. It's surprising that 7422 ended up with CSX 126's K5H horn. CSX 126 (also in for rebuilding) originally had this K5H with the same very rare backwards mounting with the 1, 3, and 5 bells reversed instead of the traditional 2 and 4 bells reversed. At 4:48 you can see the 2 and 4 bells facing forward. This gives the K5H a noticeably lower tone as it approaches since the 2 bell is dominant. If you look up other videos of CSX 126 you will see that the sound is a match. It makes me wonder if they used the entire hood section from 126 on the 7422 rebuild even though the core was from CSX 549. I have been waiting to see which rebuild this K5H ended up on and it's great that it lives on.
@@TheRailfan360 You would think so, but you definitely hear more of the 5 bell which creates the higher and loftier tone when a K5H is mounted traditionally with the 1, 3, and 5 forward. I had my own K5H mounted with the 2 and 4 forward at a horn honk last month and it had the same result with the noticeably lower and more aggressive tone. I first noticed this difference in tone watching old videos and sound clips of NS B32-8s running short hood forward while still having the K5H mounted “forward” facing the long hood as delivered.
@@StephenWeckstrom I see your angle. You're basing it on the perceived pitches of the chord. I was looking more at just the frequencies themselves. It may also just be the headphones I wear. I have rather bass-y headphones, which tend to make the #1 bell more noticeable. But if you're after the lowest you can go, I would still keep the #1 forward, but keep the #5 backwards like you mentioned to avoid that perceived high pitch.
@@TheRailfan360 Yeah, it’s really interesting how the bell direction changes the perceived sound of the horn. Several years ago I did hear one similar to the orientation that you suggested. It was MEC C40-8 7643 that had the 1 and 4 bells facing forward and the 2, 3, and 5 reversed. It sounded interesting but the 1 and the 4 really didn’t complement each other and the 4 bell was definitely more pronounced than the 1.
It’s nice to see that CSX and BNSF are rebuilding and repainting their locomotives. I’ve seen CN here in Canada doing the same with a few of their locomotives
Not new trucks, which is surprising. Looks like CSX chose to keep the radial trucks and just get them rebuilt. The part moving is the self steering device. It’s moving due to wheel slip.
The trucks are supposed to do that they’re steerable trucks that middle wheel must be slightly or just big enough to cause the truck to do that as well, and speaking of that engine that engines horn needs fixing
Can you say anything more about the difficulty with the trucks? Is it something one can see or hear in the video? I don't know what to look or listen for. Thanks much.
Totally awesome new csx rebuilds nice ❤❤❤😊
Thanks!
@stephankoenig5481 ur welcome there awesome 👌 👏

@@StephenWeckstrom They have been really mixing up the parts on these units so I would'nt be suprised
Wouldn't the 2 forward give it a higher tone? The #1 bell (D#) is a minor third below the #2 bell (F#).

Looks to be GE's radial truck design in fresh paint. Those been around for years. They ride better around curves in the rail.
Beautiful! Thanks for sharing!
Thanks For Watching!
Wow, awesome catches of those FRESH REBUILDS! Have a great day.
You as well.

It will certianly keep them around for a while!
Very nice and impressive well done 😮😊
Thank you!
7423's horn needs replacement. You can't even hear it over the locomotive itself!
7422 on the other hand rocks that K5H
Now this is totally awesome and fascinating really when u think about it these automotives going for testing nice 😊
😂😂😂 automotive ? U meabt locomotive
@@leonardovalladares4315 it's still pretty awesome right there woot woot 🌞
That sure was sweet! Must be those all new self-steering trucks! Lol... (Dave).
I have seen that before but not so visible like here.
Wow cool.
7423's K5LA(?) sounds a little quiet..
@@MSRTA_Productions It is possibly plugged. Occasionally it happens. Sometimes from painting.
0:34 I feel like that it sounds like a K5H type of horn, cuz like I was expecting it to sound like a K5LA
Getting CNW vibes already
cuz it is a K5H
Likely 126's K5H, but of course the #1 is dead
@@thedwaynerailfans dang, I never knew that until rn lol

I see those down here and one was coverd in coal dust. Cool video
They are slowly getting out there. They are also reactivating dash 8s too.
Yeah that's what it looks like going back and forth on the test tracks but awesome though 😊
Pretty much!
@stephankoenig5481 but it's pretty good to
It's nice to see a fresh batch of rebuilt CM44AHs!👍🤩
Tell me, how much time does it take on average to rebuild one locomotive?
Could be as little as a month or as long as 6 months depending on the work. Some units needed less work some needed extensive work.
ive seen 7415 already
Any update on the Wabtec P40? I'm thinking the project was probably shelved.
@@amtk821 Still by building 26 so it seems like they still need it.
I wonder what the progress is on the other CM44s
