  • A normal day of testing more NS Frankenstein creations at Wabtec was made more exciting when CSX had to change out a seized traction motor on a locomotive on the main! It is interesting to watch Winters Rigging doing what they do best!

The really interesting part was watching the NS units being load tested using each one in full dynamic braking giving the other a heavy load to pull on.

That's the standard way GE/Wabtec tests most locomotives, usually they have 2 or 3 resident plant locomotives tied on to act as weight

Awesome catches here, the NS units looked great, cool you caught them. And excellent coverage of the CSX maintenance crew 👍

interesting that they are designed so there’s 3 separate units that are independent plug and play, smart engineering

They are dash 9's rebuilt with basically modern GEVO cabs (ES44) and inverter cabinet, swapped from DC to AC traction, their traction motors are swapped to work for AC, and they have added weight to reach around 430,000 LBS, and probably have other electronics updated aswell in them

Don't you just know it, one man pulling with a huge strap and 4 in the background in high vizz doing fk all, then rubs salt in the wound, gets a few pictures with his SMART phone for his facebook page, so he can tell everyone what he did today. See the truck, says MADE IN RSA. RSA is the official short form used for the Republic of South Africa. The Republic of South Africa is a country located on the southern tip of Africa.
