Yeah, I own a Dabi fake from Aliexpress (I wanted it but I won't spend that insane amount of money) and the only way to tell it's fake is that the images in the back are a little tiny bit blurrier than an original one. Also the paint job on the skin is a little bit darker. Other than that, it looks great on the collection

I scanned a storm trooper box, and it came up chewy. I was buying it from a guy who buys collections and sells them. He pulled and said he would look into it

How did you that? Do you have to contact the seller or does Ebay just refund you?
@@hitachiuchihamagicwand2776 There’s a report option on the review menu that comes up once you receive a order. Once you submitted your report, eBay gives the seller like a 10 days period time to fix the issue by either refund you or sending you the correct item or at least contacting you to see whats wrong. In my case they (seller) completely ignored me and eBay refunded me the full amount and i didn’t had to return the items. I had a problem with a different pop and different seller before where i bought a NYCC sticker Dabi for basically shared sticker value and it came in damaged even though the pictures showed a perfect shaped one. I submitted my report with proof that it wasn’t damaged in shipping because there was no other damage not even to the sorter and the seller agreed to refund me but i had to ship the pop back to him.
Note: you only have a few days after you receive your order to submit a report and it also helps to add as many pictures with the proof as you can.
This video was very helpful! I in the past have been ripped off 3 times with fake Funko's(one was a my hero and other two were naruto characters) its not fun to pay and wait to just end up getting fakes. Thanks for making this vid for us!
Ever since, I started collecting pops I learned about fakes early on, so now especially when buying a old grail I’ll make sure I do my research to make sure everything is what it’s supposed to be
I deemed my Jiraiya on Toad a fake when I noticed his mole was located more so under his headband than on his nose. 😑
How can they make the fakes be so similar in terms of actual mould? I’ve only started collecting more recently and was very surprised how close the fakes are. I used to collect Lego years back and it was so much more obvious with them
Mainly because China has very lenient copyright laws and what not so it’s easy for them to produce items such as fakes.
@@macg9954 or because they're made in China to begin with, so the molds are there in their factories; so producing a few more to sell for a bit more than they're contracted for is how a lot of high quality fakes get made.

@@SirSkyro it's an ethics things, if you're happy with a rep, go for it, especially if you'll always keep it. Don't try and sell it unless it's clear that it isn't authentic, and all should be good. The main reason would be snobbery to be honest. Collectors get mad because it somehow devalues their item, this can be applied to all collecting.

I have purchased fake pops twice so far. First was Sakura at a con convention of all places and the other was upside down Spider-Man which arrived damaged as it was shipped in a padded parcel.

i bought a Batman pop at Hot Topic in 2014, and the plastic mold actually doesn't have the snapping prongs to hold it in place, perhaps they updated their mold design in the later years?

I actually bought a fake dabi and was so surprised at how close it looked to the real one. Only one difference in the border around the character art but other than that it looks like the real one.
Another hint that seems to be on all the fakes is the funko logo at the front won’t have the dotted pattern where as the real ones do.
Yeah I accidentally bought two fake pop both from eBay. At the time I didn’t know about fake pops. It was naruto six path pop and the sasuke curse mark pop. Now I really pay attention to detail and if I have to pay a little more just to make sure I got a legit pop
I was scrolling through Mercari and found 2 fake itachi pops and am now in the process of exposing these sellers
Not sure if this helps at all but as you were examining the side for the pop number, I noticed on the real pop the corner by the name is pointed while on the fake it has rounded edges.

I bought accidentally a Sasuke Rinnegan Chase and the only thing you can see is a lighter color on the box and build quality of the figure. Same paper, foil, fonts etc. I just noticed because of not glowing eyes. Also the box is saying Shippuden, stickers look also legit for me.
Only reason I noticed my AE Itachi was fake was because the font on the back had lots of typos. Looks 100% legit otherwise

fakes can also have matching numbers on foot and box, which even match the real equivalent; mostly fakes miss details like a necklace/eye shadow etc., or details look different; they have blurred box printing; I saw one with a CONVENTION sticker, that was actually spelled CDVENTION, which was harder to tell apart in the font that they used; I've also seen the dots in the Pop logo box missing. So when looking at photos of a pop that you want to buy on the internet, make sure to compare as much as you can to videos or pics of the real pop.

So I just arrived in the UAE and I purchased a perfect susano’o sasuke from a store full of pops. The store was just called fandom. There’s no number on the bottom, so I really can’t tell if it’s fake. Do you have any insight on this?

I have bought 2 fakes when I started collecting. Metallic red hulk and holographic darth vader. Scanned into my funko app so I took it as real.
I think there have been a TON of fake Mikasa and Eren Pops on Mercari lately so big watch out there. Some will be direct about it but most will not. I noticed that most of them won't show the bottom of the box; I'm thinking bc there may be no SN sticker. Just my guesses though.
I got a fake shisui uchiha when I ordered from Amazon it's supposed to have glowing eyes it does not and the skin tone is completely wrong

No they sold authentic ones directly from AE.
The fakes now have the correct date stamped on the box matching the one on the foot or head. Some of these fakes are indistinguishable its got me question everything I bought from Ebay. . .
one thing I noticed the number on the plastic inside matches the barcode on the box.

You have the luxury of having a real Pop to compare the fake with. A few of the signs I could check but otherwise, how am I to know?
Another way if you can compare the lighter color is real and the darker color is fake.

I impulse bought a georgie chase from mercari. When I got it it was plain as day that it was fake. Box cut was off paint was wrong blood splatter on the box was bright red instead of dull red.....
Just a heads up on the itachi ones not all are bold text on the bottom. I recently bought mine from toy temple and the shading is correct along with the sticker. Even having 2019 on the bottom. I don’t know what it means but I’m sure it’s still not a fake

fakes ones i noticed too tend to be made of very cheap plastic and some have that plastic smell verses the real ones

Bought naruto six path 186 hot topic exclusive and now to me it sticks out like a sore thumb! Bright colours on packaging. Sticker is off. Back print not aligned and the pop itself is bright orange.
Do they change box designs on different production dates? And what about the age number 17+ some have it some don’t.

i got a fake Bakugo funko pop, the second i touched the box i knew it was a fake. it was badly casted and wouldn't even stand up straight.

No, there are multiple styles of inserts. Just in this case it doesn't match this Sasukes insert.
It’s hard because you can’t compare it with one you know is real so make it difficult

Watch for the nejire hado emerald city con pop on mercari , seen multiple fakes bought and I bought one myself not knowing until I got it and it was obviously fake once I received it I was so disappointed but mercari customer service fixed it and I got my money back and they let me keep it , so I just pulled it outta box and display it the paint jobs very bad but hey why not I guess

Sounds like a private seller on Amazon, as long as the colors are good and the figure matches the one show then you're good.
