As a old-time Errol Flynn fan, it was wonderful to see this, having read about it for years. The director, Arthur Hiller, said that Flynn had had real problems memorizing his lines. In fact, a scene of Flynn and Ms Barry dancing around the room while conversing was deleted, because even with teleprompters, he couldn’t handle it. His appearance and slurred speech were evident but, as Hiller acknowledged, his charm and debonair quality remained intact.

I think Patricia Barry is a fine Actor and so pretty. Her roles always have just the right amount of humor. This was a good story. Thanks for sharing this gem.

Eroll Flynn died in October of 1959 at age 50. One month before this show was broadcast on TV in November, 1959. The cause of death was a heart attack an autopsy showing he wouldn't have lived much longer even if his heart hadn't failed. His body so deteriorated his internal organs resembled those of a 75 year old man.

Peter Hansen never became a big star, but I always liked him. Probably his best remembered role was as Dr Tony Drake in the sci-fi classic "When Worlds Collide". What few people know is that during WWII he fought in the South Pacific as a Marine aviator flying Corsairs. He died in 2017 at the age of 95.

How I love Errol Flynn. Bittersweet though, knowing there would be no more. Oh, and Patricia Barry. Gorgeous and charming. And a redhead!

Flynn's final TV appearance. He died a month earlier, on October 14, 1959, at the age of 50.

This is based on a famous Australian short story set in the goldfields of the mid 19th century written by Edward Dyson.

He was only 50 but he looks older in this than (I hope) I look today (I'm 74). Maybe it was his build (he was a big man) plus the build-up of fluid in his face (possibly backed-up from his damaged liver): some photos taken of him lounging by a friend's Hollywood swimming-pool about a week before he died in Vancouver show his puffy face more clearl).
The 'heart attack' that killed him was said to have been a pulmonary embolism brought on by a blood clot that might have been carried up from one of his legs (he'd had a leg injury years earlier). Whatever killed him, he'd said (or his ghostwriter wrote) that he wanted to live the first half of his life to the full and he didn't care about the rest of it.

Bloated from heroine & alcohol use. Sad end to a talent. Still he seemed to have no regrets.
