In today's video, we are going to talk about the Boeing 737 Flaps extension sequence.
You will see what must be checked before extending the Flaps.
First of all, know your aircraft flap maximum extension speeds.
Never extend the flaps when the IAS is above the maximum allowed.
Take some good margins, especially when you are experiencing some turbulence.
You will notice on the Airspeed indicator on the PFD of the Boeing 737 that there are small green numbers.
This is the Minimum flap Maneuvrening Speed, you can slow down to that speed however you cannot fly slower than the Flap Minimum Maneuvering.
If you need to slow down farther, extend the flap, this will increase the Coefficient of Lift of your wing and will reduce the Stall speed.
So, mainly you need to check the Maximum Flap Extension Speed and the Minimum Maneuvering Speed.

What a beautiful video, thank you Captain Gabrielle.
Glad you liked it!! You are very welcome
Great Videos Capt Gabriele... Thanks a lot for this New Video... Have a nice Day ahead... 👍👍
You are very welcome!! Many thanks for the constant support! Have a great day!!
Thank you, great video.
You are very welcome!
Hi, captain. Thanks for your videos!
You are very welcome!
Good Work Cpt !!!
Thanks for watching!!
@@PILOTCLIMB You're Welcome Great Captain.
Very well explained!!!
Thanks for watching!
Can you make a video of the small panels left of the autobrake area, please?
I mean where you see the knobs N1 set and SPD Ref.
When do you need them and can you give examples please?
Hey, i will make a video about that in that future.. thanks for watching
You are perfect captain
Thanks a lot!!
Thanks for this, very informative. However I did find your English very hard to understand and had to use closed captions.
Another great instructive video 👍🏾 . What if one flies for example at 180 knots with flaps up, the faps up maneuvering speed was at 192 knots and the amber band on the airspeed indicator was around 166 ~ 167 knots ? What are the consequences ?
I'm glad you like it!! Well you should not fly below the minimum maneuvering speed because you get close to the stall speed for that specific flap setting, the Aircraft won't fall from the sky if fly momentarily below the minimum speed because you have a margin before reaching the stall speed.
@@PILOTCLIMB it's clear now, thanks
Very helpful video!
How do you do all of this while also flying the aircraft? Autopilot?
Thanks for watching! It can be done even without it..
Can you do a video about phugoid oscillations? thanks
Hey, thanks for watching! I take your suggestion into consideration for a future content!
❤
Thanks for watching!

Could you explain please, how do pilots determine the moment when they have to decelerate to extend flaps? You could either extend flaps too early and fly too slow for a long period. Or you could extend flaps too late so that there will be no time to adapt to the new configuration of an airplane. So how could we understand the perfect moment?
The perfect moment come with experience... Check the videos regarding descend management i made to know more about this topic
Why do some pilots/airlines skip flaps positions?
For example Southwest Airlines has company rules for flaps setting.
Their flaps setting is more agressive.
Also why do many pilots who take off with Flaps 5, select flaps 1 instead of Flaps 2 first?
Is there a rules of thumb at which speed you have to select flaps 1 from flaps 5?
I mean rules of thumb like V2+20knots or V2+25 knots.
Thank you for your help!
Great question!! Check the video I made about flap retraction and let me know if you still have questions.. video link:

Hi captain thanks for lovely videos... can we extend flaps 15 without lowering gears?
Just in case if we wish just to reduce speed without further drag for example speed restriction by ATC and you are still flying level yet and want to delay lowering gears
Hey, many thanks for your support!! If you extend the flaps to 15 without the gear the landing gear warning horn will sound.
@@PILOTCLIMB That's why we have to verify 3 green lights before touching the flap lever because the gear may not go down 100 percent of the time. We may one day have a gear failure. Try it in the SIM and you'll see why Boeing tells the crew to verify first
Landing GEAR
Which Sim is this??!! And great video, realy helps!
Glad you like it!! X-plane 11
Hey captain i have a question, the speed reduction comes from the flightplan or ATC instructions or can we manually manage the speed reduction? And how will that affect the schedule of the flight?
Usually during the approach the ATC will give you speed instructions that you should respect, however the commander have the final authority and responsibility regarding safety and stabilization of the approach.
@@PILOTCLIMB Perfectly clarified, thanks!
Question, Could you go from, say 210 Knots and just set 200 Knots and drop flaps 15? Or do you have to drop flaps in increments per the speeds on the Airspeed indicator
It is best practice to extend the flaps incrementally, in order not to stress the flap mechanisms top much
@@PILOTCLIMB Gotcha , thank you!
Hey captain do we set vref after flaps 15 even if we are doing flap 30 landing? Or do we set flap 15 speed first then flaps 30 then vref 30?
The Vref should be set before the approach (normally during the briefing)..thanks for watching
@@PILOTCLIMB sorry I meant MCP speed for flaps 15
How can u tell the proper take off flaps
The correct flap setting for departure depends on many aspects, such as, runway length, Takeoff weight, weather and so on..
Speed checked
I hope you liked the video !! Thanks for watching
Hi captain tnx a lot for your explanation
If you don’t mind I have a question to ask
As we know while extending flaps the AOA will increase and therefore the lift will increase
So why when we extend flaps the nose goes down?
Because the lift increases, if you keep constant AOA with more lift you will climb...
@@PILOTCLIMB But it’s vice versa while climbing right?
I mean after take off while retracting flaps the nose will come down therefore the climb rate will decrease
The book says Gear Down/ Flaps 15 (verify 3 green lights and select flaps 15). Nobody respects
Thanks for your feedback!
Can you fly at 135 knots with flaps 40 ?
You could, it depends on the weight of the plane..
